if Juventus don't buy Liberali like rumoured... then i hope at least Aquilani and Sassuolo bring him in and PLAY HIM.
I mentioned Baldini first in March before the playoffs, and I think these two games have at least kept his name in the running? Yes, it was Luxembourg and Greece and maybe a game could have been scheduled against a slightly tougher opponent but he got the job done! There were also some names missing. All the same, he's won two games and they looked dominant in both for large parts of the game. How are you all feeling? Keep him, or let Mancini have the job? Pep isn't going to take it, nor should he. Keep someone who knows the youth or will at least give some of them a chance.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you have Brazil in your profile. Are you not going to be cheering them?
Most people want to keep him, but the feeling is at least he will stay on as our U21 coach, play the Euros next year and Olympics year after, and then possibly sometime afterwards take the next step and become our coach. He knows our youth the best and there is no one better equipped to integrate them into our squad then him.
I vote for Mancini. He's a smart CT. He's not afraid to try and launch young guys (often while making clubs look stupid for not playing them). He also is tactically flexible.
First 2- time CT. Aside from when Italy used to use technical committees as managers they got away from it entirely at the 1974 with Valcaraggi but had begun leaning this way earlier, Mancio will be the first to have 1 prints.
Genuine question about Argentina I've wondered since 2022....why do they schedule the most a$$ friendly opponents of all time? I can't fault them, apparently it works, just genuinely curious.
I would not be surprised if he's a sub in the first two games. If up to him, he'll start, but Scaloni has been managing him pretty well lately.
I want to get excited by this, but when you look at the transfer market rumors, it is STEEPED in mediocre foreign players. Juve and Milan sound like they are falling all over themselves to buy expensive but not-good-enough foreign players. NOTHING will change until this mentality is broken.
The market is still very early. But even if it was flooded with nothing but U20 Italian players, you still need these guys to go to capable hands. In Italy it’s the same agents proposing the same failures over and over. Juric, Baroni, D’Aversa, Zanetti etc. There is no diversity of tactics and approach. Aquilani, Abate both overachieved and have shown they can do good work with young players. We need new coaches as much as players on the field
The Captain being treated like a petty thief despite already being cleared at customs long ago. Why are athletes being treated this way? That’s Cannavaro ffs, these are professional footballers wtf man. They’re being searched like thieves. They also select the countries they do this too. Are there videos os them doing this to the elite teams? pic.twitter.com/LU1O77LgES— TobyWrites (@tobyasky) June 8, 2026
Gianni Rivera alla @Gazzetta_it: “#Italia ancora fuori dai Mondiali? Non nascono i campioni ed è dura senza di loro ottenere grandi risultati. Yes for sure and a few others could reach a certain level. Like a Brescianini could reach the same level of a Tomassi not everyone needs to be the next Pirlo or Verratti to contribute. We will see who can step up. Someone like Fazzini seems to have fallen away but you never know.
Hopefully Aquillani Gatusso Abate Grosso De Rossi all being in the league next year helps launch a few players. The national team can not fix the issues itself the problems start with the team/agents/managers in Serie A we can't ship everyone abroad. Fabregas Gasperini Chivu Spalletti need to do their part as well luckily Como have no choice but to buy italians and we will see what Roma Juve Inter look like. Allegri we can not trust to launch anyone but we can hope 2025 was the nadir and this new crop do something positive.
Yes and then we can consider that Fabregas Gasperini Chivu all finished in the top 4 while Allegri failed and Conte leaves the league again. When you add this crop of new managers including Gatusso who will play a 433 and should favour Italians and De Rossi as well as Sarri at Atalanta that is actually a rather transformative class. Even Juve having Spalletti a full year instead of Tudor and his 532 is relevant. Lecce survived unfortunately but Venezia Monza Frosinone should bring something more exciting than what Cremonese Verona Pisa brought. The style of play in the league won't do a 180 but I can see much of this crop being braver with young italians and their style of play in general. For one there is now pressure for reforms but mainly this class comes from a generation where they made a lot of money as players and are not as desperate for their managerial careers to bring success through ugly football the way the generation of managers before them were. Collectively if they don't play more progressive football and play young italians then there is no excuse because they all know each-other they all have spoken in interviews for the need to change. this crop feeding into a Mancini Azzurri should do something positive on paper but we will see if the Italian mentality toward individualism rears its head.
It’s a topic that’s been beaten to death here but it bares repeating. Technically, tactically this was the worst year in Serie A I can ever remember. Lowest scoring. Highest number of 0-0s. Teams purposely playing not to lose and not win at the same time. Fabregas said it very well. There are teams in Italy that have no technical projects, no in game tactics. They exist only for player trading. In the past, Italian teams had good defence because they had good defenders. In Serie A today they can’t buy the good defenders anymore, and they can’t develop them either. So they just insert another center back, play a low block of 6 and call it an day.And in possession? Who cares. Catenaccio e contropiede but without the contropiede part. We have to fight agent power + the mentality of shitty clubs. Also shitty projects like Pisa + Hellas Verona need to be punished. I don’t want to see these clubs in Serie A anymore
Just to put an exclamation mark on how cooked Italy is, new Napoli coach Allegri (the genius who doesn’t win anymore because he’s unlucky and not because he sucks) has said that Antonio Vergara is on trial this summer and he must evaluate him before he gets sold. Tottenham and Como both inquiring for his signature. Vergara isn’t good enough for Allegri apparently and must prove himself. As long as we have boiled coaches like Allegri and Conte in circulation, Italian youth doesn’t have a chance.
