With iroala the new liverpool manager it will be interesting to see what happens this season with leoni and chiesa. If leoni fingers crossed comes back well from his injury and has a good pre season i think he will be starting for liverpool regularly next seadon, he is destined for greatness in my view. I also think iroala from what ive read likes chiesa and i think he will stay and liverpool and play a lot this season. Chiesa had burnt his bridges for me with italy but if he plays regularly with liverpool and well i see him playing for italy again even this year.
It's fine to have Koleosho work his tail off as a winger (sort of like a Camoranesi) but you need another finisher on the other wing. It can't just be Pio up top. Pio is so amazing at hold up play and getting his other team mates involved. You need people next to him that can finish. I also agree that our midfield HAS to be skilled. Teams couldn't press us at the Euro 2021 because our midfield was too skilled. The only team that really successfully did it was Spain and they exposed themselves and Chiesa made them pay. Ndour is so physical. He's a great ball winner and even has good pace. His feet just suck though. It's a shame. To me, Lipani is very useful. I said it yesterday but he reminds me of a Busquets type of player. Very good skill and good tempo and timing. I think he has a future. We have to find a way to integrate just a little more skill in the midfield while keeping the D tight. The good news this weekend is that Comuzzo played well. I didn't know this but he struggled with mono this season and it impacted his play. He rounded into shape at the end of the year and played well. We definitely need gritty defenders like him. Chiarodia also played really well. Nice to see him raising his game at the senior level.
I have a hard time taking certain Italian "fans" in Italy very seriously. They are the ones who criticize everything and jump all over a young player when he makes a mistake...then they whine about there being "no good young Italian" players. There is a real segment of the population that is made up of nothing but whiners and complainers who do nothing to change their situation or that of the country. My cousins over there are telling me that some people are actually excited about the World Cup. ARE YOU FCKIN KIDDING ME? That's like being a cornuto who is excited for some guy to bang his wife. What fckin morons and losers some of those fans are.
I understand we want to win the nations league and euro...but my challenge for Mancini is to stretch his vision out to minimum four years and to maintain his player pool approach after the EURO tournament. Did he suffer from fixture fatigue and refrain from refreshing after the EURO win? yes, I think it is likely the case. I wish him the best. I was mad at him for 2022 but if he is brave enough for the project than I wish him to work in peace. Please just deepen the player pool and I will be happy! Not about me, it is just the thing I will be happiest with.
worst thing would be winning the Euros ...classic italy fashion we would fall asleep again. Yes I agree we need a project that is aimed at 2030 or we will never break this curse. Yes we want to make the world cup but we need to see Italy win a knockout game as well. There are core issues at the heart of Italian football that caused missing three world cups but I have no doubt that if the euros were in 2020 we would have maybe gone to the semi finals lost and then qualified for the world cup. Let's remember 2022 qualifying started perfectly and it was that post Euro burn out that killed us. It's a domino effect even though the fundamental issues that rot Italian football are why we are so vulnerable to these wild up and downs.
This explains everything to me. There were several games I thought he needed his vision or equilibrium checked out. Thanks for that info.
From the info I saw they played a 4-3-2-1. Just want the right team to win and have these 5 weeks go by. What a disaster.
Call me a sore loser, but I just think the tournament is sham the way they have structured with with these garbage teams being allowed to play. I do think it would be good to have a new winner for the sport, but I don't have any desire to really watch.
I agree with this. Sums up a lot of Italian problems. The thing is Mancini undid so many positives getting caught up in the fighting with Gravina/FIGC (can't really blame him with certain respect) -- but more importantly, rewarding the Euro 2020 winning team with being the group to lead Italy to WC 2022. We have fallen into this trap (Lippi post 2006) over the years since I have watched the Azzurri. Too loyal to the previous group and not willing to make changes or integrate players who need to be part of the next set-up. Sometimes fine margins that have cost us dearly, obviously. The positive spin I have for 2026 and beyond is that our player pool seems more suited to be a threat if things go well in WC 2030. I hope Mancini stays committed to letting our future talents who can help us there get live reps and see where the chips fall in Euro 2028. Obviously you want to compete to win any tournament, but the experience is going to matter most. Euro 2028 needs to be the dress rehearsal for World Cup 2030. No matter what. No more of this shit where we are on the outside looking in.
not only that.. but i miss the days of top 2 in group advance only. This 3rd place qualifier shit needs to go away. Takes away a lot of the drama of the group stage.
Great post. Well said. I hear so many stories from family who tell me about the sentiment around them where locals love to shit on the NT in times of crisis and distance themselves from the Azzurri back to their club allegiances. Yet, these same "fans" will be out in the streets, leading the way, chanting ITALIA in times of positivity like Euro 2020. Obviously, we are all upset with this nonsense with the NT. It has been agonizing to watch these failures. But holy hell there is a fairweather, toxic mentality over there amongst so many people. Sort of speaks to a lot of the systemic issues in itself. I find a lot of NA fans (evidenced by this board) share true fandom and nuanced takes when it comes to the NT which is very refreshing.
They'd send him to Serie C until hes older. I have no doubt there's talent around.. let the kids play.
Finding a Kimi or Sinner is like finding a Yamal, a generational phenom. Not having him does not prevent our future to be bright. The myth of kids no longer playing football in Italy just bc our senior team keeps failing has been disproven. The constant success our youth teams (especially our U17s and U19s) show we can become a top nation again going forward.
