I think I would, why not.

Hell I’d take 50 percent Ryerson at this point leopard hair pink whatever he or she wants as long as we get the version that continues to torch Italian teams mercilessly

Cambiaso is not good defensively. He's a liability. He can be good going forward which is why he is well-suited for a 3-5-2, playing a wingback. He makes silly errors and gets beat far too easily. This is evident if you watch him play every game, even in Serie A.

UCL does a good job at showing how far behind Serie A is tactically which we've already known for quite some time now. Unfortunately this translates to the NT as well, most of the world these days plays a strong press and quick transitional style which we struggle to cope with, as usual Italy always behind the times.

100% as Bremer goes so does Juve when they have Bremer they have one of the best defensive records..without Bremer they don't. The other issue is Spalletti does not know how to be humble and set up his team when down a man.

Juve were handling Gala with ease in the first half.

Yes he is a liability .. it is psychological he makes a brainfart every game that leads to a goal or a massive chance. In this game it came off a throw in from him. That is all an issue of concentration and not mentally being a champion.

Dortmund are 2nd in Germany Atalanta are 6th/7th in Serie A. Turkey is played at a slower pace than Serie A...but yes when Italian teams go to Europe it is always an adjustment because tactically the same things don't work.

But tactically Italian managers are still among the most innovative it is just a matter of the puzzle they are trying to solve in Serie A being very different to the one they have to solve in Europe and often because of the depth of Serie A managers with prioritize trying to finish top 6/4 in Serie A rather than go to one more round in Europe.

Nesta said on a podcast a couple of months ago that you see the real worth of a defender in a back 4. Anyone can play in a back 3.

Look at every top Italian defender in this generation, at least the ones in the national rotation. Everyone is a back 3 defender.

Yes there is not an example of one. It's a catch 22 because so many are trained in a back 3 so they don't have the experience even if they have the raw tools but it is a problem.

Even going back the last generation only Chiellini was great in a back 4. For a long time Bonnucci needed a back 3 to not be a liability. Eventually Bonucci was very good in a back 4 as well. I can't think of anyone else from that era which means we really have to go back to 2000-2006 outside Chiellini Bonucci. Acerbi was reborn in a back 3 with Inzaghi..Barzagli as well to an extent. Romagnoli was not good enough.

It's the same with the wingbacks that are trained in a back 5. Many of these players have the profiles of old school wide midfielders these are not proper fullbacks ala Costacurta Bergomi.

Materatzzi Cannavaro Zambrotta Grosso not allowing a single goal in 2006 with a back 4 is so remarkable looking back. I don't think we will ever see that again from Italy.

The worst comments I’m seeing from Juve fans today are towards Di Gregorio. Many of them want him out.

he is not good enough for Juve ... there are so many quality italian goalkeepers and Juventus spent so much on Di Gregorio because he is better with his feet than some of the others. That was a Motta call. You need an elite shotstopper ... good feet comes second.

he can't lace Carnesecchi's boots nor Provedel.

I like that quote from Nesta. Unbelievable defender.

An underrated part of his game was his quickness recovering back to an attacker that dribbled past him. I recall from memory many times an attacker had thought they dragged him out and beaten him to the touchline to angle the ball across inside the box and by the time the attacker went to angle the ball back towards the penalty spot Nesta was mid-slide tackle winning the ball.

Acerbi with a goal saving sliding tackle that led to Pio's goal. Old man still has it in him.

The deflected goal against Inter that was allowed in...I don't know how you recover from that. it was Karius level. I had always liked Di Gregorio but his confidence has to be dead after allowing that goal.

I was very sad to see him allow that one. I feel bad for him

disaster week for Serie A in the CL but Bodo also beat Athletico and Man City 3-1 so it isn't as much of a shock now. Inter did beat Bayern and Barca last season. Serie A at the moment is strong from 1-7 but none of the 7 teams are that much better than the each other there is no elite level team.
Inter can't seem to win any difficult games they only beat the lesser opponents under Chivu but they never draw so they are top.

    its hard to watch.

Norway and Norwegians embarrassing Italy any chance they get. Confidence is at an all time low for any Italian national team squad or team playing out of Italy.

I swear somewhere on social media (LOL) I caught wind that Norwegian football fans have silently been angry at us for years for both '94 and '98 and now they revel in obliterating us or something to that effect.
