If that's true I wonder what the problem is, very odd. Still doesn't change the fact that Gattuso has omitted some key players.

Can’t imagine what it is. Maybe he is paranoid about getting injured on international duty and ********ing up his Liverpool career. Thats the only thing I can think of

Been thinking maybe he wants to stay clear if they fail again. This way he doesn't get blamed.

But he will indeed get blamed if we don’t qualify since he didn’t help the team’s effort!

Knowing the luck Italy are getting Estonia will beat Norway but Norway will defeat Italy on a 93rd Minute OG off Di Lorenzo's backside.

So apparently Tonali won't play vs Norway bc he is one yellow away from suspension. Do yellows get wiped at the playoff semis or do they carry on, bc if so Tonali, Cambiaso, and Frattesi are all one yellow away from suspension. If I were Gattuso, I would make sure they all get intentional yellows vs Moldova.

In other news, FIFA is considering into taking a team's world ranking into effect from the playoff winners, which is great news if we make it the World Cup bc we will be in Pot 1 instead of Pot 4! If anyone has further news on that, post here please.

damn.. i was hoping we would be pot 4 if we qualified via playoff so there would be a sliver of a chance of seeing Italy vs Canada in Vancouver or Italy vs USA in Seattle / LA in the group stages.

Yep, I think he thought I was talking about his club achievements when I was referring to his goal ratio for the national team.

Sure, but I have given up hope as Norway are playing elite ball scoring goals for fun while Estonia is a bad team.

What the heck does that have to do with how he has played for the national team, where he has played significantly better than any of our other wingers. My point stands.

Another reason why I would prefer Grifo over Zaccagni any day of the week on the left. What has Zaccagni done for the national team, oh right score that unbelievable goal vs Croatia. Other than that, 0 goals in 10 games vs Grifo who has literally scored a goal every 2 games he has played for us. Zaccagni is literally a ghost on the left and he is our starter there, lol.

Gattuso confirmed today he has thought about including Berardi and may do so in the future but he wants to keep the same group of players just like Spalletti always preached about. Familiarity over Form. Never a winning formula.

Gatusso should remember the 2010 WC when Lippi did this same thing and he was on that squad. That went well. Zaccagni and Politano over Berardi and Zaniolo is ludicrous. Berardi has more talent in his little Calabrese toe than both of those guys combined.

I agree. What one player could lift Sassuolo to a Serie A title all these years? No one. Not Baggio, not Del Piero, not Pirlo. Impossible. Totti with far more talent at Roma than Berardi ever had, only got one Series A title in his career.

We could debate the merit of Berardi spending his whole career on a squad like Sassuolo, but does anyone doubt that if he went to Juve, or Inter, or Milan he wouldn't have obtained some hardware and been a contributing factor?

8 goals in 28 matches. A nice double vs the mighty Malta.

You guys are really reaching here

You’re completely missing the point. Berardi’s biggest problem was that he STAYED at Sassuolo when he had the talent to go on to do bigger and better things. He never had the ambition to go on and do bigger and better things. The guy never left his comfort zone of playing at a club that has 0 pressure to win anything. But somehow he is this dynamo that we need. He has always performed well vs. The minnows internationally and in Serie A is capable of brilliant game once in a while. But he has the heart of a loser no question

    Belgium, Poland, Bosnia, Czech...

Starting a ton of games when we were on that world record unbeaten streak.

What have any of our current wingers done?

    You are the one reaching.

You can be fairly critical all you want about his club ambitions. We are talking about his play on the national team where he has performed at a higher level than say Zaccagni, Politano, and yes even Orsolini. Do you really feel like they have shown ANYTHING (besides Zaccagni late goal vs Croatia) for the Azzurri?! Those 3 are combined 7 goals in 39 games and they are not great chance creators like Berardi and Grifo are.
