We agree that they needed to inject youth, just disagree that one match proves anything. It's cherry picking 101.
How many years does Rino need to coach to be experienced in your mind signore? He's coached for 12+ years including Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Marseille. He's not the most sexy coaching prospect but I have no idea why people keep saying he lacks experience. He's coached for about as long as he played for Milan.
There's been tons of coaches who haven't won a scudetto as manager signore. Zoff, Prandelli, Donadoni, Cesare Maldini, Vicini, Bearzot, etc
The only CT out of that list that had a token job was Donadoni. That was because his friend Demtrio Albertini gave him the job. Aldo Spinelli had just fired him at Livorno and he didn't deserve the job and never won anything. Prandelli won the Serie B with Hellas Verona in 1998–99 He also won the Panchina d'Oro: 2005–06, 2006–07 and was Serie A Coach of the Year in 2007–08. No comparison to Gattuso. Zoff won a Coppa Italia in 1989–90 and a UEFA Cup in 1989–90 with Juventus. Cesare Maldini won a Coppa Italia in 1972–73 a European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972–73. He also w/Italy's U21 team: UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship: 1992 1994 1996 Bearzot had a great team that he inherited from Fulvio Bernardini. Gattuso so far anyway, is not in the same boat.
The point of it being a defensive issue is clearly valid. While I thought it was merely defending set pieces it's simply not the case as they are leaking goals at an unprecedented rate. Somebody upthread made a good observation that even more Italy are conceding goals scoring opportunities immediately after they score. If the rumored Assistants will be Bonucci, Zambrotta, Barzagli.... don't know if it was intentional as they are all former Defenders or it just happened to turn out that way.
I see many of the giornali have forgotten about Gli Azzurri and are turning to this useless club World Cup. Herein lies the problem. Until the fans react with more anger, none of the changes get made.
I don't intend on watching this garbage tournament. I've heard that even with reduced pices ticket sales have been poor. Hoping it is a failure so it doesn't become a thing.
Clown tournament with clown qualification methods. In no tournament should the Seattle Sounders ever get to play three games at home in a group stage. Club Clown Cup. Should be called Infantino spreads for America (again) Cup
@Azzurrifan87 To your question or statement of whether Gattuso is merely a manager that will shout at players OR can he also be the type that is able to put an arm around them? Really don't know.
So it looks like it’s going to be Gattuso. The FIGC are signing him to a short 1 year contract with a second year option. Very obvious to everyone that it’s a short term solution. I have to commend Gattuso for the warrior that he is because he’s walking into a very difficult situation. And if you track his history as a manager, he’s a guy who has always taken teams at difficult moments. Milan and Napoli are two great examples. But about him personally, I’m not thrilled yet I’m still hopeful. He’s not a great philosopher, but maybe that’s what we need right now. At least in the very short term he can transmit some of that cazzim that has been missing. On the actual style of play, no one can guess that right now. He has used different formations at different clubs.
Day 1 at Coverciano With the squad assembled in the Dressing Room, walk in and hang his 2006 WC Winners Medal on a hook of an empty stall, crouch down and pick up Di Lorenzo's boot and whip it across the room. If it hits somebody and he dies then he dies. Tell them that Training starts in 5 Minutes and to meet him out on the pitch.
Buffon said they made the best possible choice and I think he is likely right does not mean it is good but if the options are keep Spalletti or hire Gatusso then they made the right choice. The managers Gatusso beat out for the job are not worth squabbling over. Have to just hope for the best.
Is Gattuso going to outsmart Ancelotti in a WC quarterfinal match? Probably not. But, right now, he's probably what we need. It's one thing to lack cohesive or solid play. It's another to lack fire and heart. We lacked fire and heart in the Euros and we lacked it again for the last few months of Spalletti's tenure. So, I can live with a little ass kicking in the locker room as we try to figure out this WCQ.
Watching FIFA Club World Cup and they just showed (Brazilian) Ronaldo , FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Roberto Baggio all sitting together.
I'm not sure where Gattuso's and Bonucci's paths would have crossed as Gattuso was off the NT when Bonucci started his international career. Purely speculation on my part but if I had to guess Buffon had more input on this hire. Hire a friend just starting out type of shit. Happens everywhere not just in Italy circles so I'm not too hung up about that. His #2, Riccio, seems to follow Gattuso whereever he lands. Very common. Match Analyst/ Video guy has a lot of footage to dissect where the ******** ups have been. As for his contract, seems straightforward enough. 1 year for qualifying and WC. Federation option to renew. Obviously based on performances.
