Gravina gaslighting us saying they will take their time deciding their new coach when Gattuso was already decided after Ranieri declined. He is in the process of sorting his staff out, looks to be Zambrotta and Bonucci. This team lacked heart and desire, that is why they are brining Rino in. I look forward to seeing this new team come September.
You’re misreading it. He’s not implying that if Inzaghi would have thrown on younger players in one final game it would have turned the tide. He’s saying that the performance in the final was the result of Inter’s transfer strategy and the Italian philosophy regarding experience over youth. Both Inter & PSG played roughly the same amount of games this year, yet one team was completely burnt out and the other was much fresher. Perhaps if Inter would have spent the past 2-3 transfer campaigns on lowering their median age or working to valourize their good academy players, we would have seen another performance. Marrotta KNOWS THIS. And he’s working to drop Inter’s median age by finding good under 25s. They have already signed Luis Henrique and Sucic. They also want to raid Parma and get Bonny, Bernabe and Leoni. Also sidebar, if the schedules will continue to get heavier like this, the need to manage squad rotations becomes more important. And the best way to do it, is to have a good academy system. And in Italy, the primavera’s are an afterthought. Inter have sold guys like Casadei, Fabbian, Pirola to raise money. Guys like the Esposito brothers are sent on endless loans to make space for two cadavers like Correa and Arnautovic. Perhaps now they will change their strategy
Lorenzo Lucca on his way to Napoli it seems. These are the type of 9s that Conte likes. Hopefully he can do something with him.
Gatusso is a risk because bringing in a hard man into a mentally weak team can really go two ways. If they bring in Bonnucci and Barzagli to help Gatusso sort out the defence and with Buffon there I think it could have a positive effect. There were people concerned that when Spalletti went in that he could be alienating. He is an odd guy. Remember he banned playstation and all these things. I don't think the players hated him but he is a drag off the field and then on the field he is making you look bad by asking you to play tactics you aren't comfortable with. There should be a lift without him. Maybe they want to keep the back 3 and thats why Bonnucci and Barzagli are there. Gatusso tends to play a more direct style. He's not exactly Conte but he's not far from it. Maybe we can say he is inspired by a mix of Conte/Ancelotti.
According to Sandro Sabatini, Buffon is the one who strongly pushing for Gattuso and he’s the one who in contacts with him. I also heard another rumour which was unbelievable, but after the Moldava match, Gravina met with the current senatori of the team (I’m assuming Donnarumma, Bastoni, Di Lorenzo, Barella) and asked them who they wanted as coach.
that's wild ... Gravina is just a leech he has no vision he picked Spalletti because he won the scudetto Im sure he gave it no other thought. To be fair I was happy to get Spalletti at the time thought it gave us an advantage over other nations.
Yep. And then doubled down not letting the man resign after the Euro debacle all to try and save face hoping his guy turned it around. Would have given more time to integrate a new manager and ideas before these massive qualifiers. Gravina is a POS.
No one was opposed to the Spalletti appointment. It was the correct move at the time. It didn’t work out obviously.
I'm OK with that. Would be interesting to see who the names floated about were. This could explain the hold up.
that was the big mistake Spalletti did well to get us to the Euros with a broken team but he should not have been asked to stay on after that. It was clear he wasn't the right man. The Nations league served to cover the cracks but there really is no pressure in the Nations League and Spalletti was happy to play counter attack in France and Belgium. It's not a surprise that we won away from home in both of those games. When Spalletti was again confident/arrogant at home France and Belgium went through us just as Germany and Norway did because of how he set up. The France and Belgium games away from home showed us that another manager could do ok with this group as those were the only games in his entire reign that he let the team play Inzaghi ball.
Gattuso is friends with Buffon so I’m sure he wants him to have the job. The problem is Rino's lack of experience but he may light a fire under the players. Either way, if he doesn't qualify from September until October, it will be a short-term fix.
I bet the hold up is Gatusso wants a multi year deal and they only want to offer him a 1 year contract. If Spalletti re-signed after the Euros would the FIGC have been off the hook with his salary? Are we now paying out his salary?
Bonucci, Barzagli & Zambrotta as Assistants. Buffon only delegation chief so he doesn't count here for this discussion. I know they have a wealth of experience at the very top level as players but where are the actual coaches and those with Managerial experience? Mancio brought in the late Gianluca Vialli who had managing experience. Lele Orialli also experience at the very top level as a player and was known as the one as a tactical savant to observe the other team. On Mancio's staff doing the same job at Inter. DDR was understudy and just starting off. There was a coach brought in by Mancio's strictly for set pieces. But here? I know Bonucci is only recently retired and is with a youth sector. Barzagli is with the Under Italy teams as Assistant where it concerns Defenders. Zambrotta, not sure. Who will be Gattuso's #2? Just seems like a lot of body's ar being brought in without Managerial experience.
I think Vialli and De Rossi were a big part of Mancini's success Vialli specifically. Mancini wasn't the same after the Euros without him. Bonnucci Barzagli don't have a lot of experience coaching but if you bring them in to specifically work with the defence I think in that limited capacity they are experts. To make selections and key substitutions and tactics no they don't have that experience at all and it would be a massive risk. Gatusso is already a risk as his record is spotty but he is technically experienced and national team managing is completely different who knows maybe it suits him more. It's a crapshoot.
This is not the way to do it, IMO. Spalletti has way more experience than these 3 combined and even going on the end of ECQ'fiers, EC, UNL, 2 matches of WC'fiers he was still making mistakes. These 3 plus Buffon. As I wrote earlier this week just seems like it's just a way to get the band back together and hangout. I'd be curious to know who were Gattuso's Assistants in past jobs. There was a rumour out there that Simone Zaza was joining his staff. Yet another name just brimming with coaching experience -- Jesus Christ.
Let me simplify it so you can catch my point "Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca insists Italian football is being left behind and the Champions League Semi-Final proved it for Inter. ‘Only in Italy do they still think players are too young and that experience is what wins you games.’ Doesn't quite work. That's why cherry picking results doesn't do it for me. On your last point that they didn't inject enough youth during the season, I have no issues with. Agree completely. They could have and didn't. Real Madrid just made my boyhood club super rich shelling out €63.2 million for Mastantuono. They can regularly inject youth into their lineup because they can afford to. So can Inter because Inter has a great youth development program. So it was certainly a big fail not to do so. Did that cause the final collapse? I have my doubts. They just simply played like shit from back to front. The fatigue argument doesn't work with keepers. Sommer had an amazing semi-final and a brutal final. He couldn't make a single save. Dimarco was checked out on the second goal. I hardly saw Barrela, Lautaro, Dumfries and Thurham. I don't think fatigue was an issue there. PSG also plays in an easier league. I prefer not to draw conclusions on one game. Do you watch hockey? Florida Panthers 6-1 Edmonton Oilers June 10th Edmonton Oilers 5-4 Florida Panthers June 12th One game is hard to make a real conclusion from. I like the NHL playoff model. It gives us a wider lense. You definitely get to see adjustments made back and forth over a potential 7 game series. Using that comparison, I doubt that Inter is going to lose 5-0 to PSG in four games in a row. It was a really bad night for them all around. I was just watching a podcast where they pundits were suggesting to gut Inter. I guess you could go with a rebuild if you do not want to compete in the Champions or Serie A next season. I think it's naive. You have a core that have worked well together for several years and Napoli just got better. I can't see Allegri making Milan a juggernaut overnight. I don't think Juve is going to challenge, so it's probably going to be between Napoli and Inter again next year. Augmenting that core with some youth and it seems they're going in that direction are the changes I'd make. Gutting the team is premature. They've proven themselves consistently good for many years. Get rid of some dead weight like Correa and Arnautovic and promote Esposito. Sounds like Chivu wants a young 18 year old stud Leoni. They already signed Sucic. Good moves.
It's a huge risk but re Spalletti sometimes having that experience is not a good thing because they are literally two different positions being a club manager and a national team manager. It's not surprising Spain did better with their under 21 coach than Luis Enrique. Lippi was very unique in his ability to transition. Sacchi Capello Trappatoni among many others really struggled with national teams. while someone like Luis Scolari was exposed at Chelsea. I would not be surprised to see Ancelotti now struggle though he is maybe the most like Lippi since Lippi so maybe not. I also won't be surprised to see Tuchel struggle more than Southgate. He already has a 3-1 loss to Senegal. It's a tricky thing. Conte was really amazing for Italy he is special. But don't get me wrong I have zero confidence in the options feels like a wait and see crapshoot.
LOL I wish I had link to footage or some way to share that I actually was a competent amateur GK. Oh well. All of my s*** is on VHS lol. In any case, at the risk of (re) re-opening this old wound again, I studied that goal last night and if you want to...take a look at a closer angle...that shot dips wickedly close to Donnarumma...your reaction time gets cut down when that happens... in my opinion that goal was more difficult to save than when watching it zoomed out.
If any of the rumors are true, with respect to the above three, it may very well be because they recognize the biggest problem is goals against. I'm sure their experience can be key in correcting that.
