24,742. KEEP LA NOW. Seems LA is the only place they know there is playoffs going on. Here's hoping NE can draw simular crowds tommorrow. FANTASTIC
pathetic LA is Soccertown, USA. I couldnt help to think that if this match was next year...Victoria Street would have been full. That would have been some atmosphere! LA fans arent exactly the soccer mom type.
DAMN, that is impressive attendance in the playoffs. Gotta love that if you are Galaxy fan going into Victoria Street next year. I bet that atmosphere is going to be crazy over there. One of these days I'll be there sitting in the DC United section and we'll have some good cheering wars....oh wait, I was dreaming, or was I????
i can seriously say this, 100%, pisses me off i hate LA for this, i hate the league for this, i hate aeg for this, i hate everything and yet this has nothing to do with my hate for the galaxy i am so upset because this was played in the empty and cavernous rose bowl, instead of in the nearly sold out and insane atmosphere of Victoria Street
But you know, as big as the Rose bowl is, the atmosphere wasn't so bad. First, there had to be closer to or beyond 30k in the house. They don't count the comps. That was 24,742 PAID! Second, the GA second (mainly Central Americans) was about 80% full, and they brought the noise. Third, LA's premier supporters group/outdoor insane asylum - the Riot Squad, were in full voice. But you guys are right. If you took that crowd and stuffed them into Victoria Street, my ears would be ringing right now like they were after I saw Led Zepplin at the Forum back in the day. The G's support continues to build, and even with the big jump in ticket prices, Victoria Street will rock next year - too bad for the rest of your around the country. If only Anschutz owned a few other teams in the MLS....
Yeah, the crowd was big and LOUD tonight. Saturday games are easier to get to it seems than Wednesday night ones. Everyone had thundersticks, and on top of that there was probably 20 or so drums dispersed throughout the crowd. Add to that the whistling of the Central Amercian fans, and there was a great atmosphere in the Rose Bowl. Hard to believe that that could be the last game we play there. I hope it is... The thought of that game played in our new stadium is too much for me to even think about- I still can't believe that's what's going to happen!
So how do they succeed where all other teams fail? Is it the market? Is it a winning team? Is it the drive for their first Cup in 4 attempts? Or do they actually SELL tickets instead of waiting for the phone to ring? Either way it is GREAT to see.
I don't think it's marketing, as the only time i've ever seen a commercial or ad for the game is during other MLS games, and since there haven't been any games during the playoffs broadcast nationally.. I think Carlos Ruiz is the reason we're drawing so well right now, everyone is excited about him, he gets more attention then Cienfuegos, which is a huge deal.
As bad as the first round was, the semis could be something special. Look for a 25k+ crowd in Foxboro. A mid-week sell out in Columbus. If it goes back to LA another big crowd. If it goes back to Foxboro the biggest number yet. The wild card is Denver. Mid-week, after a good ol' butt whipping. It will remains to be seen.
What on earth makes you think the Revs will draw 25K+ For starters their stadium doesn't hold that many people. Second, it appears most of their fans expect around 10K.
If Ruiz and 100 Fires are still around next year, I think it would be very smart for the Gals to do Spanish language ads, where Ruiz mentions he's from Guatemala, 100 Fires sez he's from El Sal. And then they say that the Galaxy are their team now.
Dumb question, but did the baseball game impact attendance at all or just prove that it's a different set of fans?
I am sending your important posting to the idiots at MLS who did not consult with you before putting this year's MLS Cup Championship at Foxboro. Please let all of us know now how few fans can actually be seated at the Gillette Stadium. It obviously is far less than 25K. Thank God, cogent, intelligent and observant soccer fans, such as yourself, are on the guard, at all times, to set the record straight.
Nice sarcasm...of course the stadium holds upwards of 65K, but stated soccer capacity is 22,006 and, as was demonstrated in the days leading up to the season finale against the Metros, should they sell 22,006 tickets, they will not sell a 22,007th...There are several reasons for this including security issues and permit issues with the town of Foxboro, hence your 25K figure for this afternoon is impossible. FYI, they hold a permit with the town of Foxboro allowing for crowds of up to 40K for the MLS cup. PS, I'll be heading over to The Razor in a couple hours myself and I think we'll be lucky to draw 12K. But those 12K will provide for a hell of an atmosphere.
umm for normal games it sells out at around 21-22k... they have said they won't go over that many times for the mls cup, they will get rid of that... but that has been their stance all year (the once exception being a doubleheader with teh usmnt) the stadium does seat well in excess of 25k, but that doesn't matter when looks at how the revs are working it
The question now becomes, assuming that Columbus, Colorado, and New England show similar good attendance, does the league cut out the first round?
Diceson, Going straight to the semis makes good senses, but I think the league liked those large season ending crowds when every team had a chance to advance. So, the small quarter-final crowds may be less significant as a result. Hard to tell.
If we can get Angelenos to come through the Orange Curtain, as a (seemingly unlikely) third match would be played at CSU Fullerton. I can't remember any Fullerton match that drew in the five digits.
Titan Stadium only holds about 10k. Tix go on sale Monday. Expect it to sell quickly. But after last nights performance, will there be a game 3?
