Yeah but you miss out on the satisfaction of seeing Sweden beat us fair and square again for the gold. (That'll spoil your fun for you!) tee-hee!
Well, I had the satisfaction of seeing Sweden beat you fair and square, period. It was not for the gold, but I'll manage to cope with it.
Well, an hour before the US first group game I started a FIRE VLATKO NOW thread. But in part it was meant to reverse-jinx some of the unmistakable problems with the roster he selected.
Until today the last time Canada beat the USA Charmaine Hooper scored twice. Sinclair also scored once. Hooper was 33 on that day. She is now 53.
I'm here! Wait, were you talking about me? I think everyone else went back to bed, hoping it was a bad dream. Most of the discussion is in the USWNT forum anyway.
Baffling performance by the US. They did not look at all like themselves, but it's so hard to put a finger on why. They seemed disconnected from each other, and sloppy. I am 100% on board with the FIRE VLATKO NOW thing. His decision in particular to play weakly to "safely" make int to the quarters were demoralizing. And if you don't have confidence in your coach, you can never play your best. The US can't win everything all the time, but Canada was hardly a shining blaze of soccer brilliance. More like they lost balance against a stampede of bulls in a China shop. Wish Jill Ellis would come out of retirement or USSoccer finds someone else fast.
So she's barely older than Carli Lloyd? Maybe she can cross over and join the USWNT. She would fit right in.
Gonna say I basically called it A single PK late in the game is basically PKs after a draw, right? Active, or overall? USWNT has only lost outright once to Mexico, Japan, and Australia, each with over 30 games, so good possibilities there depending on exactly when the losses were. I expect Germany's and Brazil's women's teams also have a few possibilities.
Sinclair is class. No one could say differently: ♥️ pic.twitter.com/ebag5NmXyX— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) August 2, 2021 There's another pic of her, too, hugging Lloyd after the game. And here is an Athletic article on her, published before the game. I'm still going to root for Sweden in the final though.
