So we signed Jasinski, but still no word on JoGo? I think he had a number in the last game. 90–something? Don’t know if that means anything.

Saving Nick Lima's $375,000 salary at least provides some cap relief. I found out btw that Nick took a buyout to retire early. Not sure if it was $375k but maybe after taxes and other expenses, he probably came out ok.
If he took a buyout we don’t get cap relief unless we use him as our 1 per season buyout. Pretty bad to give an MLS vet a 2-year contract for almost $400k, barely play him and then essentially cut him and eat the salary. It’s not like you didn’t know what you were getting. We also paid Kaye $800k last year. There were some bad moves by Bruce last year.
I wonder if -- during the negotiating phase while he was interviewing for the job -- Fish indicated that Bruce would have free rein "you know best" and then Fisher tightened the bit.
Agreed that Lima was a waste (especially if Verhoeven's departure was related) but I imagine he had to give some money back to get out early.
Yeah, I doubt it was a full buyout. I don't know how that conversation went. If Nick just came and said he wanted to retire point blank, there's no incentive for the Quakes to pay him. Maybe it went something like this: Nick: I really want to play more this year, and if not I might think about retiring. Quakes: Well, you're probably not gonna play much, so... Nick: Well, still not sure about retiring, unless, wink, wink.... Quakes: How about $50k to retire? Nick: How about $150k? Quakes: Let's split the difference: $100K Nick: OK.
Yeah I am not sure but I think Nick probably took a partial buyout. I’m speculating but I believe they may have offered him a coaching job sometime in the future. Probably something like they gave Luchi Gonzalez when they canned him and he turned up six months later.
So JoGo, from Santa Rosa and Nonni from The Town are signed, which the playing time in Coachella suggested would happen.
Welcome JoGo and Nanso! Thanks for pointing out that Niko needs to be on the senior roster ThreeApples! Jazzy's find that we would get fined for an empty 18 spot means likely means two people got moved. Per that discussion I put Judd and Beau in there since it was pointed out that they go new contract. We'll just have to wait to see if this is correct when the roster on the website gets updated. Salary Budget Roster 1. Daniel* #42 (G) (Brazil-INT) {5/06/94} [$742.5K] 2. Bump! FYI, MLS released each team's roster build here: https://mlssoccer.app.box.com/s/8rlpwuftshm29fhixg9w08q834j491wp Also thanks for keeping this thread going Seismo.
I agreed with you when you wrote this, but now we’re looking pretty good. I still want another couple of DP’s, but we’re looking good! Three and zero!! Woo hoo!! But I still think that we need to bolster the roster. And there’s a few guys we could ship out too. Go Quakesfans!!
Um, so I have some questions. 1) Hernán is listed as a DP with an asterisk and a caret, meaning, * indicates player is currently unavailable, and club may receive roster/international spot relief, but not Salary Budget relief unless otherwise determined pursuant to the loan agreement. ^ Indicates player can not be converted from a Designated Player to a non-Designated Player by using Targeted Allocation Money. So we may be getting his roster spot back but not salary budget recovery, depending on the loan agreement. I think the "loanee" club has to cover the entire salary of the player for the DP spot to be recovered. We never received confirmation that this is the case with Hernán as far as I know. Everyone has just assumed we've recovered his DP spot, but have we? 2) Chicho is not a DP slot? Did we buy him down? Could we even buy him down when his salary was $2 and 1/4 mil? I think the max "buydownable" salary in MLS this year is around $1.8M. Why would Chicho be "buydownable" but Hernán not, when Hernán's salary is around $1M and Chicho's is $2.2M? Maybe Hernán's amortized transfer fee figures into it? Chicho doesn't have the caret by his name (where the caret indicates not buydownable). Maybe the loan salary can count towards the salary and then you can buy down the rest? If we've recovered Hernán's and Chicho's roster spots we have 2 available senior roster spots. If not then we're at 20 with no room on the senior roster. Also, some good news. We have $4.7M something in GAM, which is top 5 in the league I think. Also, an observation. Timo's salary is listed as "unbuydownable" which means, if he was a free transfer, his salary would have to be $1.8M plus. As I've said in the past I think he's gonna come down at $3-4M, which would be our highest salary ever by a good margin.
I think the roster slots/international slots are always opened up with a loan if the agreement doesn't allow a recall of the player during this season. The DP status is based on more complicated contract details. For Chicho, there was at least one report that he accepted a 50% pay cut to make the loan happen, so that may have been enough to get him off DP status, especially if Nacional is paying the full reduced salary. https://onefootball.com/es/noticias...si-destrabo-su-fichaje-chicho-arango-42321424 Para que el regreso de Arango fuera viable financieramente, el jugador tomó una decisión contundente: aceptó una reducción salarial superior al 50%. Este gesto fue la llave que permitió a Atlético Nacional equilibrar sus cuentas sin arriesgar la estabilidad del club.
So, what positions would you use a DP for? I’m still way nervous about Daniel, but not sure I want to spend DP cash on a keeper. I could see laying out DP money for a #10, but that might wreck Niko’s future.
I'd get a DP #9 - Judd can compete for the spot and share time. It'll make him better. Our only true #9 other than Judd is Adimabua. I've watched him play a lot with the 2nd team. He's not that good. And then I'd upgrade the backup GK position but not with a DP. And then one more CB (also does not need to be a DP). Munie to Floriani would be a big drop-off. We can't risk that. We've got plenty of GAM - about $4.7M to sign a couple of TAM players as well as a DP. As for the #10, we've got Niko and Nick Fernandez, and Timo would do very well there as well. Edit: BTW I checked in on our buddy Bruno Wilson and looks like he's still without a team. Maybe he's gonna sit on the nearly $2.5M he received from the Quakes over the last few years and call it a day. If he's living in Portugal, cost of living is gonna be pretty low.
Thank you Mr. Bandwagon! This does give us a more accurate picture. We had this pretty close. I moved a couple of players between the rosters, but that's not much of a difference. Learning that Adimabua takes up an INT slot was very interesting. We only have one of those open for the summer window. We sort of unlearned what we thought we knew about our wayward DPs.
