- Autuori

hmm I think it's possible... we almost did it in 2002 qualifiers, why not now? I mean, considering the fact that Chile and Paraguay, in my opinion, are alot weaker then the previous qualifiers.

Paraguay is nothing without the leadership of Chilavert and Ayala, it will be a long time before they can adjust to this. Other players such as "Toro" Acuna willl not be playing either. Look for Paraguay going out just to defend and looking to counter... something they've always done on away games and sometimes have done it very well.

Chile, like Paraguay, also have lost key leaders (Zamorano) that they will need to time adjust to. You can hardly consider Salas a leader... the man is fat and slow... nothing to look up to. Only way Chile will come up a winner in Santiago against Peru is if Pizarro (the lesser one ;) ) and Milosevic step up and come up strong. Only way... and of course if they can take advantage of Peru's weekness, the air game.

For Peru to win these two games it will only take one change and thats having Galliquio play the role he plays in Racing, as a right defender and counter the Paraguayan counter attack and have Villalta take his place in the center defense. Paraguay has no air game so Villalta would do just fine. For Chile, all Peru has to do is play the same players and same position they played against Mexico. And maybe just maybe replace Zegarra and put in Ciurlizza.

I hate to predict because i'm usually biased since I AM Peruvian... I dont know, you can take it as you may but with the most sincerity and honesty I'll have to say that Peru will win both games:

    Peru 2 Paraguay 0
    Chile 1 Peru 2

our main problems lie in the full backs
hidalgo and soto are two good midfielders but they simply do not have the defensive skills to be defenders

defensive mids is another problem. i am afraid that this can proove to be very costly for us against paraguay

basically most defensive positions are a problem

we finally have good mature fowards and our defensive mids turn to crap

i believe jayo is a liability id start ciurlizza ahead of him

I agree with most of your statements, however to say that Paraguay has no air game is like saying that Argentina has no attackers. Paraguay ONLY atatcks in the air, and may I add they do a hell of a job, young and old generationa alike. This is atypicial of the Peruvian squads, they are usually full of talent but it's their 'over confidence' that takes them away from the games...hopefully the players aren't reading this thread and realize that a 1-0 result against Paraguay is a solid result!

I was happy when it was 2:1 at halftime! What a great start - let's hope they can at least get a point against Chile to keep it going. A win of course would be gravy.

    great result

great games from solano and mendoza
pizarro was good in moving the defence around

erick delgado was nervous at first but made good saves in the second half

jayo and zegarra did their jobs

hidalgo was the only low point in the team but im sure he will play better against chile
