I'm monitoring the Women's Gold Cup too. Colombia are one of the more improved sides of the last couple of years. The USA are vulnerable. It will be an interesting quarterfinal. Just like I have a Top 150 ranking for men's international teams I'll from now on add a ranking for the Top 50 Women's international teams. It takes results of the last 3 years into account. The Gold Cup final will be played on 10 March. Expect my ranking to drop just after the final. I'll post both my rankings on the Colombian subforum as well.
I'm at the game... this is beyond embarrassing Moving at snail speed, I don't understand the goal kicks, and these petty fights they're starting
Terrible game plan. USA knew to pressure Colombia's defenders and they got a lot out of it. Against a lesser opponent, in a group game and with all your starters you could try to play the possession game, but in an elimination game against a team that has their number, my priority as a coach would have been to keep the ball out of our defensive area as much as possible. USA has vulnerabilities in their defense and Colombia was able to create some danger in their area, but with the speed and skill of their attack, the mistakes the Superpoderosas made trying to get out of their own area were too costly. Now, the fights and the physicality I can understand, specially against a group that uses their strength to bully opponents; but yeah, there's a difference between asserting your ground and turning the contest into a wrestling match.
Colombia ended up in 17th place of my women's world ranking but missed out the chance to enter the 'very good' tier. The FIFA Rankings rank Colombia in 23rd place. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-O_MJQcN3WShMH5ULUnl6LliiydraaQGg1zBkTD4OfQ/edit?usp=sharing https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/women
Bear in mind that the two best third placed teams advance as well. Colombia shouldn't have any problems to dispatch a weak New Zealand. They will need to play France and Canada close or ideally grab some points in order to squeeze through.
Our u17 did well getting second place at the South American tournament and will play in the U17 world cup!
Our U20 side is doing excellent. We are already hosting the u20 world cup this year so I think the lack of pressure to qualify is why they're adapting so well.
Should you all create subforums for the women's players? 2 goals + 2 assists + EPL Championship for her today
no. A lot of threads are barely used even Diaz we talk about him sometimes in the transfer rumor one it’s men’s nt general, copa America and James (either bitching about him, saying he is the goat, or praying for his regen ), Diaz and Duran most other threads aren’t very active
Girls were doing a solid comeback until they were red carded a player. First match at the Olympics lost.
They had France against the ropes and then Ramirez held on to the ball for too long, sent it too far forward and clipped the french defender trying to gain possession back. After the red card, the tram looked completely gassed and devoid of energy and the coach didn’t sub any more players. The good news is that they scored two goals and 2 third place teams advance as there are only 3 groups, 12 teams.
One of our defenders tripped a French attacker and no PK was given either, so I’m not going to sulk on the no calls.
