Ya sabia k Popol estubo detras de esa furia k se puso Pappa, te pasaste Popol, Hope you had a good Birthday
Tenemos un grupo super accesible para avanzar a la hexagonal, eso si le ganamos a la vieja barbuda. Group B looks to be pretty tough, as is A. We were blessed in the draw but even like that we're still pretty bad at the moment.
After our last home and home in WCQ, I'm not sure I'm ever confident, but if we handle Antigua and Barbuda we're back in the semi-final round with the USA and a respectable Caribbean team just like we were last cycle at this round (T&T this year, Jamaica last cycle). If I remember correctly, we tied with Jamaica for 2nd place in the group, but they advanced to the Hex based on GD. Fingers crossed we can repeat that performance, reversing GD, and make it to the hex. After Cuba, who knows though lol
That one still hurts bro....fish was on a one man mission to the world cup.......it wasn't pleasing to eye but we managed to master the "pelotazos a la olla" tactic and we weren't prone to meltdowns and collapses like we are now (the usa game notwithstanding)
That's what costa rica and panama get as a reward for complaining to concacaf about their mexico bias $$$$$$$
ohhh wow no mal para mi que les juguemos en guatemala pero en xela a los de el caribe... haci pues no van a aguantar el frio y sas ganamos. ahora pues la siguiente fase de grupos es de ida y vuelta los juegos??
Not very happy to hear that there wont be any microciclos. Mean you're going to call the same dudes from the GC and hope they haven't forgotten how to play along with each other since mid-July. We're basically getting together for chamusca with WC implications. That's not something i'm comfortable with. Especially seeing how erratic we played. Who cares if we've beaten them every time. We went into the Cuba game saying "it's a sure win" and talking about how many goals we were going to score on them and we walked away with nothing. The carribean teams are stepping their games up, while we keep putting the same dudes out there and calling it a sure win once again.
Last cycle, Guatemala ended with 10 points on 3 wins 2 losses and 1 tie, ultimately missing out to Jamaica, who also ended with 10 points on 3 wins 2 losses and 1 tie. I've copied the match results below. Going into the final match day against the USA, Guatemala was in 2nd place sitting at 10 points and a +3 GD, with Jamaica in 3rd place at 7 points and a +0 GD. All Guatemala needed was a tie and they would have advanced as the 2nd place side. This year, it looks like we will need more of the same, minus the whole GD difference. We SHOULD be able to beat St. Vincent/Aruba both times, just like we beat Antigua and Barbuda both times last WCQ cycle. If we're able to do that, then we're sitting at 6 points with 4 games to go. Of the other 4 games from last cycle, we split the 2 games with Jamaica, 1 win apiece. With the United States, we lost 1 and tied 1, the tie coming as a direct result of Marco Pappa's BEAUTIFUL free kick with that left foot of his in the waning moments of the game (link here). What this qualifying campaign comes down to is how we deal with T&T in those 2 games, and how we play the USA IN Guatemala. Usually double digit points in this group will get you through, so if we're able to mimic last cycle, I would feel very confident. Now if we can just find someone, anyone to score some goals United States 3–1 Antigua and Barbuda Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Attendance: 23,971 Referee: Hugo Cruz (Costa Rica) Jamaica 2–1 Guatemala Independence Park, Kingston Attendance: 14,000 Referee: Roberto Moreno (Panama) Antigua and Barbuda 0–0 Jamaica Report Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound Attendance: 8,500 Referee: Stanley Lancaster (Guyana) Guatemala 1–1 United States Estadio Mateo Flores, Guatemala City Attendance: 18,000 Referee: Joel Aguilar (El Salvador) Jamaica 2–1 United States Independence Park, Kingston Attendance: 25,000 Referee: Marco Rodríguez (Mexico) Guatemala 3–1 Antigua and Barbuda Estadio Mateo Flores, Guatemala City Attendance: 8,000 Referee: Marcos Brea (Cuba) Antigua and Barbuda 0–1 Guatemala Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound Attendance: 5,000 Referee: David Gantar (Canada) United States 1–0 Jamaica Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus Attendance: 23,881 Referee: José Pineda (Honduras) Antigua and Barbuda 1–2 United States Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound Attendance: 7,000 Referee: Neal Brizan (Trinidad and Tobago) Guatemala 2–1 Jamaica Estadio Mateo Flores, Guatemala City Attendance: 20,717 Referee: Roberto García (Mexico) Jamaica 4–1 Antigua and Barbuda Independence Park, Kingston Attendance: 8,000 Referee: Wálter Quesada (Costa Rica) United States 3–1 Guatemala
Well it won't be easy but it's not impossible either. .....the thing is esta seleccion no inspira nada...............not only does it lack a cohesive plan but we are also weakly minded........last cycle we over compensated the lack of talent with order, work rate and a never say die attitude.....even when trailing against belize, Antigua, Jamaica and usa they had the belief that they could tie and even win .....even with archaic methods like pelotazos a la olla yet everyone knew their roles.......in a way we were a poor man's uruguay/paraguay.......now that a new eliminatoria looms large, we find ourselves full of doubt. With a coach caught between two minds and players who have so far flatter to deceive (bar the uncaf). I like sopegno I really do but he can't expect his players to do what he wants them to do when he doesn't even know what he wants from them in the first place
Sorry to go off topic here everyone. But in case no one was aware, Popol esta de luto porque Miguel Herrera ya no es DT de Mexico. Obviamente es un momento muy dificil para Popol, y debemos respetar sus sentimientos mientra termina de chillar.
Fuerza y resignacion Popol. ..our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult moment .....on a side note if we ever let go of Sopegno we should go after piojo. We ain't got the infrastructure, players nor the money but we'll happily allowed him que vergue a cualquier periodista empezando con pirulo
Well first off, we will see a lot of new faces on the Sele. Sopegno understands that if he goes with the same team, we will barely beat Antigua. Expect to see Jonathan Top And That Kid from Toronto Edwin Rivas. Is time to change the team. El Recambio
Rivas reminds me of Pezza, a goal scorer but plays more the setup man role. However he does have good size looks pretty strong too and appears to have some speed and good burst movements to creat spaces in the box.
Has he been called up?? I would like to see something like Rivas y top en la delantera to see waddup!!
If we make it against la vieja peluda we'll have to hit the ground running since we start against trinidad in el mateo
