Captain and center back Diogo Queiros was given a straight red for this (link is video), which happened after Italy had basically not touched the ball for the first eight minutes of the match: 1020004033958998017 is not a valid tweet id Yikes.
My immediate instinct was to be amazed by the red card that was shown, but the clumsy challenge came at literally the only point in the play when the Italian attacker was by Queiros, so he did tackle through the opponent from behind with no defender between him and the goalie. Italy was lucky to not lose to Finland, then got to play up a man for 80 minutes and won 3-2 today. It would've been a drastically different game otherwise, to say the least. Norway pulled a win out of its ass against Finland, winning 3-2 after trailing 2-1 as late as the 90th minute. Italy +2 | 6 Portugal +1 | 3 Norway -1 | 3 Finland -2 | 0 Portugal plays Finland on Sunday.
Even with 10 men, you could see Portugal is superior to Italy, no question asked. 11 vs 11 it would have only showed more. Portugal should be able to pull the qualification though.
Yeah, and what proved to be the winning goal by Italy was a long-range shot that would've been an easy save had it not taken a deflection, and a few seconds before the shot Italy got away with a foul to keep possession. Oh well, Portugal should beat Finland. Then again, Finland could easily have four points right now.
It's the worst when a game is ruined within just a few minutes. But like you guys said, even though they lost, it was pretty clear Portugal is the better team and a strong contender for this cup.
If we are so inferior, then why the hell are you always here? Keep stuffing your face with pizza because it makes you feel more Italian.
You got a red card so you made another account just to troll again. My man, you really need to seek help. Not saying that to be cruel, I genuinely think you should talk to a professional, because I don't think you are aware of just how sad that is. If you don't help yourself, no one else will. You are clearly uneducated and lonely, but that just won't change until you can reflect on yourself and take the steps to change it. MOD EDIT
Don't take it personal. He hates everyone on our forum too, and always has multiple accounts. One is still active. Thanks for getting the latest one banned.
3-0 final result, Portugal is going through. It was overall a good performance, but some of this young guys are taking their individual effort a little too far at times. It could have ended 4,5,6-0 easily. Domingos Quina, Florentino, João Filipe, Carmo are pretty good. That game against Italy decided over a ref call was unfortunate as it ended up costing the first place. The semis will probably be against Ukraine
You don’t have to do any damage control. Everyone here knows he doesn’t represent Italians. By the way, every one here suspects he’s one of those fake Italians. I know that the Portuguese and Italians have qualms with each other in that one Canadian city, but maybe Ronaldo helping Juventus winning a champions league title will bring them together.
He's an Aussie and creates multiple sock puppets. He calls us all names too. You're probably right, he's a wanna be something or other, or autistic, or both. I haven't watched any of the U19 save for a few highlights so I came to read how the game went between us as I had read the reviews on our forums. Maybe we'll see each other in the final. Anyone but England
The team plays very well but we miss absolute sitters today and the individual stuff is good when you beat one player but trying to take the whole team is ridiculous. Portugal has now qualified for their 5th straight appearance at the FIFA U20 World Cup no other European team has ever done that. That said...It would be nice if one of these U19-U23 finally win something. We had this group win at U17 but it gets much much harder every 2 years that pass up in age group. My concern is while they are all very good at their age group there is no stand out player that towers above the competition.
Great achievement but the FPF for qualifying again. Im a huge fan of Hélio Sousa. Surely will be the 21s coach once Rui Jorge moves on. We’ve never had the quality we have now, Im personally not concerned about winning junior tournaments. We were the best team the year Serbia won the u20 World Cup but lost against a lucky Brazil in the quarters. But look at the players who have come from that side Gelson, Andre Silva, Guedes, Rony, Dias. Do you want to win junior tournaments or develop players for where it matters. This age group is stacked with quality, I think a few of them will be AA players
Ruben Vinagre is a quality full back, I think he will be a future national team left back, we have an abundance of full backs coming up. Domingos Quina being linked to Barcelona for his performances. Also teams in Germany (currently he's at West Ham). Doesn't seem like Portuguese teams are too concerned with developing talent at the moment, a lot of these quality players are in foreign countries. Benfica has a good crop but doesn't seem to want to give them chances.
I've been really impressed with this team. It has shown plenty of talent, plays very well together, and it seems to be full of confidence, which doesn't always seem to be the case even with the most talented Portugal youth teams. Yesterday's match easily could've ended 6-0 or something like that. Portugal just destroyed Finland's defense and seemed to toy with it at times, but it took way too long to get a third goal; the missed 2v1 was shocking. Portugal was also the first team to make Finland look out of its depth - Finland outplayed and deserved to beat Italy and led Norway in the 90th minute. I like that each Portugal match at this tournament has featured a different Portugal standout. Florentino, Trincao Francisco, Ruben Vinagre, Joao Filipe and so on... I agree that this squad could produce a number of senior team players. Here's a more thorough (12-minute-long) highlight reel from the Finland match, showing all Portugal's chances:
It looks like it'll be Ukraine and France making it out of Group B. Ukraine leads Turkey 1-0 and England, which needed only a draw to advance, is getting stomped 3-0 by France. If the results hold Portugal will play Ukraine. If Ukraine only draws then Portugal will play France.
Coming in second was hugely beneficial. Ukraine looks a good team, but France would have been a far bigger challenge.
Yeah, it seems that way. I knew Ukraine beat France, but when I went back to see how I realized France's captain was sent off with a straight red in the 64th minute at 1-1 and Ukraine scored the winner in the 86th. With 11 men, France then beat both Turkey and England by 5-0 scorelines while Ukraine outscored the same teams 2-1.
