Vini left the match injured today, doesn't look serious but tomorrow will confirm whether it's enough to keep him out of these matches or not.
Vini is confirmed out, Andreas Pereira replaces him. Current squad ahead of tomorrow's concentração, replacements highlighted: Bento, Ederson, Weverton Danilo, Vanderson Beraldo, Eder Militao, Gabriel, Marquinhos Abner Vinicius, Alex Telles Andre, Bruno Guimaraes, Gerson, Paqueta, Rodrygo, Andreas Pereira Endrick, Igor Jesus, Martinelli, Luiz Henrique, Raphinha, Savinho Most players were in action yesterday, only Danilo and Raphinha are in action today if I'm not mistaken.
Militão confirmed out. He made it to Brazil but the medical team determined that he should not play. Fabricio Bruno has been called up in his place. https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-lugar-de-militao-na-selecao-brasileira.ghtml
Wow ... that's a big wave of last minute injuries. They just keep piling up. I am trying to think how Dorival will line up in the front without Vini. There are a few options. I just hope he doesn't stick Raphinha on the right. Although he did do well in that role in the qualifying for 2022. I wonder if having him float like at Barca would work out. Might be a bit of wishful thinking since the rest of the team doesn't play the same way. Probably it's Rodrygo floating with Savinho on the right and Raphinha on the left with a striker up front. Rodrygo and Raphinha can interchange.
It's frustrating how much potential there is to have such a flexible and in form attack but the lack of an imposing 9 and the coaching choices just hold us back from that.
Update on Paquetá: he will have a hearing in March: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebo...em-marco-sobre-suspeitas-de-manipulacao.ghtml The earliest this could affect us, therefore, is the March window next year, when we play Colombia at home and Argentina away.
https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-tatica-e-testa-igor-jesus-como-titular.ghtml Line-up in training: Ederson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães, Abner (Alex Telles); André, Lucas Paquetá; Savinho, Raphinha, Rodrygo, Igor Jesus Dorival confirms Abner and Igor Jesus will start: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-e-igor-jesus-como-titulares-na-selecao.ghtml
Yep. The question will be how Rodrygo and Raphinha lineup. I am guessing they will be given a bit of freedom.
Dorival calls up Matheus Pereira from Cruzeiro for Paquetá's spot who will be suspended for the game against Peru.
https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...bruno-guimaraes-e-gerson-como-titulares.ghtml Vanderson, BG and Gerson likely starters against Peru based on today's training. The midfield is no surprise because André was injured (according to press conference after the match) and Paquetá is suspended. Vanderson is a welcome change and probably only happening because we are at home against one of the worst teams. As bad as Danilo has been, if this were against a top team, I think Dorival would keep him in.
Changes confirmed. Also Rodrygo will be more centralized, Raphinha right and Savinho left (against Chile Savinho was on the right and Raphinha and Rodrygo were left/center interchanging (at least in theory). https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...udancas-no-brasil-para-enfrentar-o-peru.ghtml
Match thread for tonight. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/eliminatÓrias-copa-2026-r10-brasil-x-peru-10-15-2024.2132952/
Having watched some highlights rather than this data FIFA's matches in their entirety, and with the slow pace of progress, I can only be moderately satisfied. Brazil, it can be argued, did no more than its obligation - to defeat the two teams at the bottom of the league table. But at the same time, there are some positives: Dorival has begun to show an ability to think outside the box concerning new blood, and this resulted in Brazil winning two consecutive matches for the first time since the very two first matches of this qualifying tournament - although the context (several injuries) matters. Forget any "wow factor. Brazil dazzled against Paraguay this past summer but with the latter under new management, Brazil lost (and of note, after Gustavo Alfaro - who managed Costa Rica vs. us in the Copa América - took over Paraguay, Paraguay has gone 4 matches unbeaten). I'll certainly take the six points, but I'll take an increase of stability over beautiful play anytime if that means longer-term progress. I wonder if the solid play by the Botafogo players means they now have cadeiras cativas with Dorival's roster. At the very least as bench players. Some in the media are already calling for Luiz Henrique to be a starter. If anything, Dorival is in a way fulfilling a pledge he made when he took the job - to reaproximar the team with the Brazilian people. I only hope that his choices of Campeonato Brasileiro players doesn't lead to injuries - imagine if Igor Jesus or Luiz Henrique are injured against Venezuela or Uruguay and miss a hypothetical Botafogo participation in the LIbertadores final. Dorival has earned some political capital when he most needed it. Now let's see how well the team does when visiting Venezuela - until a while ago, I saw a stop in that country as three points in the bag without any questions. I'm not so sure now; Venezuela gave Paraguay a run for its money yesterday and drew Argentina (albeit in a rain-drenched pitch). The good thing for us is that Uruguay, who seemed to be the hottest CONMEBOL contender when this qualifying competition kicked off, has gone several matches without winning and even lost to Peru. Barring disasters in November, Brazil should finish 2024 comfortably. Dorival is definitely an improvement over Fernando Diniz - who, despite his merits, should never have given the job. Thanks for nothing, CBF.
Nothing against Luiz Henrique, but he came in the 2nd half against the two weakest opponents when they were ragged (one of which the game was decided and the other they let him waltz into the box). Credit to him for taking advantage of that, but he did play against two better (but not great) opponents in the last round and could barely beat player off the dribble IIRC. He does bring a more physical winger profile that we really don't have ... but I wouldn't be surprised if 2 years from now, he isn't in the WC squad. I am just not convinced by him.
I'm with you on the Luiz Henrique impression. I think he deserves his spot in the next call-ups. Vini, Savinho, Rodrygo, Luiz Henrique, Raphinha are practically guaranteed. Martinelli and Estevao are both in the running too. And that doesn't really leave any space for other wingers. Of course, most of the press are saying he needs to be a starter now. Chances are if he starts against Venezeula, in Venezuela, and doesn't have the type of match he did this week, the same kind of pundit who is yelling about him needing to be a starter will be blaming him at least partially if we drop points. I think this match can be a boost for the players' confidence but not much more than that. There wasn't some tactical evolution, we just played a poor team and got the goal that opened things up early enough to score a couple more. And as for the next call-up, I think it's good that we can just pick the same wingers next time, so they can focus on bringing in more midfielders, new full-backs (alongside Vanderson and Abner I think), and focus on those sectors.
Overall, I would build the next few rosters based around this for the eventual WC26: GK: Alisson, Éderson, Bento RB: Vanderson, +1 CD: Militão, Gabriel, Bremer, +1 LB: Abner, +1 CM: André, Bruno Guimarães, Paquetá, Gérson, Andreas AM/LW/RW: Neymar, Rodrygo, Raphinha, Vini Jr., Savinho, Luiz Henrique FW: Richarlison, Igor Jesus, Endrick +1 wild card (I'd add a midfielder, but realistically it would probably be Martinelli or Estêvão or another winger/attacking mid A few notes: I italicized all the players who were not in the last call-up due to injury. Bremer is bolded because his is long-term. Realistically those +1s on defense are still Marquinhos, Danilo and probably a defensive left-back like Alex Telles this time around. Although maybe we get Abner + Arana. But I do think that if all the injured players are available in the end, those +1 spots may evolve into new options by then. This is a list of 26 players because we know when the tournament rolls around, it will be a 26 player roster. But CBF always calls up 23... I think the midfield spots and full-backs are where tests need to happen the most and would be satisfied with the other spots remaining as is for now.
BTW, the preliminary list for November qualifiers is due to FIFA on Sunday, October 27 if I'm not mistaken. Call-up could be as early as October 25, but based on recent call-ups, more likely it will be on November 1.
Rodrygo might have pulled something in the Madrid game. I swear that Vini faces better defenders at CONMEBOL compared to Europe.
It is rather plain and simple that if Raphinha plays like he did today against Bayern Munich and Vini Jr plays like he did against Dortmund then Brazil can defeat any team on earth. The simple fact of scoring goals solves one of Brazil's biggest problems.
They scored when they were put into plenty of space. That game situation seems to seldom happen when they play with Brazil. It's not only because of Brazil's tactics though. No team will play that high line against us. Not to mention, the passing from the midfield isn't this crisp (in Barca's case at least).
Well, Raphinha had the last laugh this week, out of the two Brazilian standouts, with the 4x0 Barcelona win in Madrid. But Vini Jr. gets Balon d'Or win on Monday so he'll also be on a high going into the call-up next week. (I'm assuming it will be next week, no confirmation yet.) Here's what I'm hoping for: Central defense: For Gabriel and Militão to be healthy for us to see what should be the starting duo finally. Murillo to finally be called up as the 4th defender, with Bremer out, but it will probably be Beraldo... Full-backs: Vanderson as a starter on the right against Venezuela. Abner to return on the left with Arana or a new name. Midfield: Just call up more than 5... I'm sure Andreas will be called in based on how he did in October, but the most important thing is just to call enough names! Forwards: I expect Igor Jesus here, would like to see Richarlison back if he can keep playing (Tottenham play tomorrow and Wednesday). Neymar: If he is called in, at least bring in 24 players, not just 23, or that will just compund the problems with not having enough midfielders.
The convocação is confirmed for Friday and Brazil will train in Belém ahead of the Venezuela match: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...logistica-antes-de-jogo-com-a-venezuela.ghtml
Neymar will not be in the November call-up, reportedly: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...cidem-adiar-retorno-a-selecao-para-2025.ghtml I think that's sensible, for the reasons I mentioned above.
