Podem me cobrar ? This is funny. And if he doesn't make it to the final ? What happens ? Does he lose something other than his job ? Alguém fale pro Dorival que ele vai ser cobrado com ou sem promessa ...
I think people are making a little too much of this statement. He and Rodrigo Caetano have clearly set a goal of taking Brazil back to a final. They've been saying that practically since day one. Someone must have expressed disbelief or thought he was just trying to impress the journalists though, and that resulted in the statement yesterday at the beginning of the press conference (I think that's when it was), when he said it should be on record. You're right, though, celito, that he would be cobrado either way and he would lose his job, which is expected at that point. I guess if he wins he and Rodrigo Caetano can think about renewing though...
I would like to call out the many journalists who said that we could stroll through WCQ without a manager (or with any manager) when the conversation was about to wait or not for Ancelotti. While you could argue that CONMEBOL has been a bit weaker than in the past, that argument just ignored Tite's good work who at least made WCQ look like an afterthought. Obviously Ancelotti coming or not could have gone either way ... but I was also never a fan of being his back up plan when it became clear he hadn't fully committed yet and his decision would depend on Madrid's wish.
The Ancelotti stuff is still so infuriating to me because as a fan I KNEW he would never leave Madrid to come manage Brazil. We were his backup option until he got the 2nd contract fro Madrid. I don't doubt there was communication between Carlo's reps and CBF but everything Carlo said out loud screamed he wanted to stay at Real. We need a new manager ASAP to salvage these next 20 months.
Jorge Jesus was always our number 1 realistic choice. Ancelotti was almost entirely a media fabrication. He wasn't even on our radar a day before our loss in Qatar. Then Galvao made a single youtube video in the aftermath and it was like someone flipped a switch in the brains of every pundit in Brazil. Overnight Carlo became the end all be-all, and the wait was justified as hiring him being essentially a free pass to win 2026. (to Galvao's credit he was against waiting a full year for Carlo to arrive). I wouldn't have supported Ancelotti even if the deal with CBF went through. Brazilian football is a chaotic environment where things not going down the way they are supposed to is almost the norm, and we need all time available to us to make corrections. I still remember the consensus among pundits that Luxemburgo was supposed revolutionize the selecao and be our coach for the next several world cup cycles. When push came to shove he had a bad run and was fired after only 2 years at the helm, but at least then we had time to keep making adjustments until we finally struck gold with Felipao. That would not have happened if we had waited a year for Luxa to terminate his contract with Corinthians at the time.
I mean, this is the trouble, no matter who is in charge. Tite's 6 year tenure will remain an exception. While I will keep saying we need long-term planning, Even I concede that when things are not going well there comes a point when the short-term solution can be the best option. I don't think Jorge Jesus would work for a full 4-year cycle, based on his history, but short-term, if Dorival doesn't make it past this year, whatever, get whoever the players will work with. But still, all managerial appointments are a roll of the dice when there is no planning at the higher levels. BTW, the next call-up will probably be next weekend if we do the typical early call-up we always do. Let's see if they stick to that or if they delay a bit again.
I thought this video was worth sharing. It's a bit more in depth about the failures of the current tactical setup. He does preach a bit at the end about being more objective and less reactive, since the theme of the video is that we (Brazilian fans in general) are partly responsible for the failure because everything's always great when we win and horrible when we lose and rarely is there more analysis. He's not wrong, but it's such a tiny part of the video, despite the title. The video itself talks about how the ideas are being implemented and where they're going wrong and if there is a summary I could give it's that there are good ideas but the implementation is very general and doesn't take certain things into account (like opponent characteristics). In a way it's pointing out how lacking Brazilian coaching is.
The call-up will be next week, Friday Sep 27. As I noted the preliminary list is due to FIFA this weekend: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/times/...do-corinthians-antes-de-viagem-ao-chile.ghtml The October matches are Chile (away) and Peru (in Brasilia).
Raphinha had another good game for Barca scoring 2 goals . It’s a sure thing that he will be in the upcoming list . I just hope he doesn’t get pinned on the wing if he is going to be used . Vini didn’t start over the weekend but came in the second half assisted and scored a goal . started and also scored a goal . Endrick subbed in at the end again and while he didn’t score , he drew a PK on a piece of individual skill . There was some rumor that Endrick was going to start yesterday’s game or the next one . Savinho had a spectacular assist to Haaland in the game against Arsenal . Estevão is hurt now but might fit again soon in time for the international break . But I do wonder if he will get a call with Raphinha and Savinho back . I am guessing he will be left out which I of course don’t mind at all .
Vanderson didn't play this weekend but he had good games in the CL against Barca and last weekend in the league. I really think Dorival needs to bring him in. He won't bring in defensive solidity like Danilo but I think he's more ready than Yan Couto as an offensive option. Also, the news that Leo Ortiz is on the pre-list has people up in arms about defenders picked ahead of Bremer. Bremer is probably also on the pre-list but who knows if he'll be called in. Beraldo hasn't played a ton though so maybe he has a better chance this time?
I think we already knew this, but JJ said in an interview that it's an ambition of his to coach the Bazil NT. But he finds it had for a foreigner to get the job.
ge article ahead of today's call-up: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...r-tempo-perdido-em-duelos-com-lanternas.ghtml Call-up will be at 1pm local time (12pm for us in the US, East coast).
The list for matches in Chile and against Peru: Alisson, Bento, Ederson Danilo, Vanderson Bremer, Eder Militao, Gabriel, Marquinhos Abner Vinicius, Arana Andre, Bruno Guimaraes, Gerson, Paqueta, Rodrygo Endrick, Igor Jesus, Martinelli, Luiz Henrique, Raphinha, Savinho, Vini Jr. I'm very glad to see Vanderson back and while Abner isn't the name I was hoping for at left-back, it's good to see they are looking at more options. Also, Bremer of course, The starting defense might be Militao and Gabriel, but Bremer needs to be among the 4 every time. If anyone should be dropped to give Beraldo or another young option space it should be Marquinhos. I'm very worried about this midfield. It's basically 4 midfielder + Rodrygo and 7 forwards. That's a trend I think we really need to change. If you're not going to call more than 23, at least call in 5 or 6 mids...
Super sh*tty midfield. Really no words about it. Bremer played his way into the call-up. No way to ignore what he was doing in Juve. Recent reports from UK expanded on the Luiz Henrique and Paqueta betting scandal. We really need to move forward without Paqueta because there is no way he isn't getting banned.
In football, the MIDFIELD is destiny, i.e., the team with the best midfield has a much better chance of winning.
Brazil's problem is clearly the midfield. The midfield is devoid of creativity, cannot control the games, nor connect defence with offense, nor make forward passes to the attackers in space. They can't even retain possession of the ball for longer than 3 passes. And he called a total of 4 midfielders...that too the ones that did not work in the previous matches? SMH! He will probably play Rodrygo as a 10 with Paqueta behind him. That will be an improvement over playing all the journeymen together as he had been doing.
https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...aneja-mudar-a-selecao-nas-eliminatorias.ghtml Article about the changes Dorival is likely to make. Not surprising, considering the call-up, the main point is that Paqueta will probably play as a segundo volante. This means probably means an Andre, Paqueta, Rodrygo midfield at first, with Bruno Guimaraes, Gerson, Raphinha as the options behind them.
That's brutal. That means his out of the picture until September next year as far as national team calls go, when we're down to the last two qualifiers. I hope to see Murilo from Nottingham replace him, but realistically we'll see Beraldo, maybe Fabricio Bruno. Also have to watch Militao, as he was reportedly dealing with discomfort after yesterday's CL match, and the qualifiers are in just 1 week.
Beraldo has been called in as the replacement: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebo...vocado-para-o-lugar-do-lesionado-bremer.ghtml
Arana is out, Alex Telles replaces him: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-no-lugar-de-guilherme-arana-na-selecao.ghtml Not an exciting replacement, but with a new name in the other left-back spot he was not likely to call up another new name as a replacement. Another article indicates Militao's injury is not serious and he will join the team.
Alisson was injured today and Weverton was called in to replace him... I definitely would not have guessed Weverton...
