Huge games tomorrow. Anyone want to pick any upsets?

I think Portugal might be in trouble.

They were really, really lucky in the first game.

For some reason, the Algeria-Egypt playoff has most of my attention. Could be a better tussle off the pitch but I'll be hoping Algeria win out on it.

Bosnia-Portugal ... Hoping for Bosnia, but I think Portugal will get an early away goal and that will be enough.

Ukraine-Greece ... couldn't care less but I'll take Ukraine at home.

Slovenia-Russia ... the tournament would be better if Russia went through, but I'm hoping my Köln boys Brecko and Novakovic will be on the big stage next summer.

France-Ireland ... Heads will roll if France don't complete the job. A bit tough on Ireland who have done well in this campaign.

Uruguay-Costa Rica ... Los Ticos blew their chance in front of their home support. Can't see the Los Charrúas doing the same.

That Algeria-Egypt tilt is a spicy one, isn't it? I heard on the Guardian podcast that the Algerians who claimed that their bus was attacked prior to the match this weekend were making it up.

    ^^^ I got 65/72.
(it was hard remembering that some countries no longer exist or have changed names over history)

Tsk tsk tsk, and this from a well traveled man. ;)

So... in the Egypt/Algeria match, it's halftime and Algeria are up one from a badass goal: from center midfield about 35m out, it's lobbed over to the right side of the box where Anthar Yahia smashes it first time and hits the underside of the crossbar on the near side and in.

    Second half should be crazy!

Check out this picture today on Marca.com: :)

No real explanation for it, it just says it was after a press conference in Rome.

It appears that Greece scored to go up 0-1 and Egypt tied up the game in the second half.

EDIT: Did Egypt tie it up? I'm confused by the ESPN Soccernet website.

Rumors of an Egyptian equalizer were greatly exaggerated. Algeria are going to the World Cup, and the place erupts.

Algerian keeper Fawzi Chaouchi was nails in goal. Made a couple of crucial saves. Algerian defence in general was quality. And Yahia's goal was certainly worthy of qualification. Well done Algeria.
But have to feel a bit sad for Egypt. Two-time defending African champs simply struggle to reach the big stage. 31-year old Mohamed Abutrika will likely be added to the list of quality players to have never played a World Cup match.

Any truth to the rumor that after being presented with the scarf he asked to kiss the hand of one Don Iniesta? "Where is lo ******** Crack?" I believe was the direct quote. Someone please confirm or deny. :)

omg, robbie keane absolutely blew a 1v1 on the keeper to put Ireland up 2-0 and basically kill off the frogs. (73'). Trappattoni is having a coronary on the sidelines.

If France-Ireland remains tied on aggregate (1 - 1), do they go to extra-time or straight to penalties?

EDIT: My stream just pointed out that it will go to extra-time if the score remains the same.

holy guacamole: Slovenia in, Russia out on away goals! Russia finished with 9 men...

edit: Hendrix, I think there's XT before PKs. We're deep into injury time now.

    Russia went down in flames.

I was screaming for Henry to get pulled out for Benzema (for selfish reasons of course ;)) but Malouda came on for Gourcuff instead. Domenech must hate Karim or something.

    ...or Domenech is a cretin.

I think there's plenty of evidence for the latter.

Now what's with these French jerseys and the built-in man-bra (or: bro)?

Setanta announcers are really tearing France (and Henry) a new one, has it been that bad, I started streaming late.

Only 2 spots left - this game and the Tico vs. Beefpoop one later.

Henry must have not had a very impressive game because the commentators were bashing on him.

It would be stunning if France were to not make the World Cup.
