section8chicago.com

Discussion in 'Chicago Fire' started by UltraCinek, Mar 13, 2004.

  1. I just would like to let you know that section8chicago.com is in its final stages of preparation. The site will feature match reports, information about future matches (what will be done, what we want to accomplish) so every Section 8'er can look the website up before the game and come prepared, and information about other activities like Section 8 on Tour road trips, Section 8 parties, etc.

I would like section8chicago.com to be an ultimate website which will be very informative and will become a major source of information for any Chicago Fire diehard fan. It will not be any fan club website but it will contain links to any and all Chicago Fire fan clubs as well as the information about each of the clubs.

I would like to post a little bit more than just simple links to fan club websites so I would like to ask each of the fan clubs, namely Barn Burners, MDSC and Arsonists (and whoever else I don't know about - Windy City Casuals :) ) to submit a paragraph about their club to me to be posted on the website. (If you want, it may be more than just a paragraph - you can submit logos, photographs, etc.). Include club history, current activity, etc. I will take care about the Fire Ultras info myself. Please email these paragraphs to me ASAP. My email address is marcin14@yahoo.com .

The website will also contain materials for our grassroots campaign. I am specifically talking about a downloadable poster/ad to be placed on school/college/university message boards as well as leaflets informing about Section 8 call for more diehard inhabitants. Anybody will be able to download these materials and post them at their school and help us grow.

Please help me spread the word about this. I am sure we have enough power to make this work and grow really huge this year.

If anybody has any good ideas for these grassroot campaign materials please feel free to post them here or email them to me. I have a couple of good ideas but am open to initiatives of others.

I am really counting on your help. I don't want this to look like one man operation.

I would like the site to contain links to all Fire fan websites, so please submit your web site address to me if you have a Fire fan page (COZ's website and the Fire Alarm are already on the list). Some other pages related to soccer in Chicagoland, Section 8 friendly soccer teams will get links (and mention) as well.

Any suggestions and ideas will be very appreciated. You can post them here or email them to me (see my address above).

  2. It looks like everybody totaly ignored my call for help.

Anyway, I think the site is pretty cool. Many, many, many, awfully many thanks to Liam who worked so hard he even got to a site that flashed its (his?) banana (flashbanana.com).

If you are unhappy with the contents, just deal with it. Kidding, any suggestions are appreciated.

    section 8.com

It is very "oddly" designed. I won't say poorly, but definately an odd layout.

Well... I think it has potential.

    Code-wise, it's kind of coming through a time-warp from 1999.

There have been a lot of advances in the past couple years... including some serious design changes... not just code.

Frames... no more. Nobody uses them anymore, and there's a good reason for it. They were ok for a while for menus, etc.... but you have a frame in the middle of the page... no good.

Also... learn to code it straight into a plain ol' editor... or get yourself a good html editor... but stop saving things to html from word. It never really works, and it's hell to get rid of the unwanted stuff.

There are some gorgeous pictures of section 8 out there. Why pick a blurry one?

    You need a photos section.

Having the linked sites load into that frame is just lame... especially since the window is so small.

use a target="_blank" tag or something in the link... that way you can have a new window open and still keep them on the S8 site.

I'm glad things are progressing though!

Absolutely no offense meant. But I don't think your design looks any better then the original. I agree that the original version needs tons of work though. But as was said. It's a start.

And Marcin, I emailed you and never heard anything back so stop complaining about lack of help! :p

ok, i just corrected what i saw was wrong with it. It took me a hour, guess what i could come up with if i spend 30-40 hours. My version looks more professional. How can you have a footer in the main text section? i moved that where the footer should be, made the links a rollover, and change the header, so how can u say it doesn't look different? Look again

I didn't say it looked the same. I just said it didn't look any better. It's different but equally unattractive. As a Fire fan and section 8er I appreciate your effort but my opinion is that your design is a step sideways not forward. It's just my opinion. Again no offense meant.

The site ain't great but considering the timeframe I turned it out in with the given conditions it ain't bad. And the reason that the picture offered is what it is, is because that was the only picture we had available at the time.

Also, I get where you're coming from with the Word stuff, but Marcin (for now) needed a simple way to do his own content and be able to upload it on his own. It's hardly a permanent solution.

That's odd, all of a sudden my employer's firewall has deemed http://www.section8chicago.com to be inappropriate and has blocked access.

Geez, what have you added? :)

I'm just curious, why do alot of team got a section 8, I see section 8 alot on BS. I'm a huge soccer fan I'm just not too familiar with the term "section 8". Is section 8 the place where the die hard fan go to drink, cheer all game long and have a good time ?

    10 more days to go.

Only one team has a Section 8.
It is a loose collection off Fire Supporters, both organized groups and individuals.
Yes, drinking, chanting, cheering and shouting are had in heaps.

Due to generosity, suggestions, and god willing some extra time, s8c.com v2 will go up sometime later this week or early next and I think everyone will be a lot more pleased overall.

the same thing has happened to me on some department of defense servers. the thing that comes up, is that some host for the site or something says republi(unts and it trips the server with the word (unts.
