Some of the main discussion on this was lost in the crash, and with the preseason not all that far off, schedule being released soon, and as something to get our minds off the forthcoming roster cutdowns/trades...this seemed like something of a good idea to bring up.

The main info on the flag/banner repair event will be finalised very soon, after I can get the dates requested for the gym confirmed. Then we'll all talk about any materials needed or new projects for those 2 days.

Something else I posted on just before the crash was exploring seriously how to pull off prematch sectionwide parades into the stadium like we experienced in Morelia, at least on the big match days (rivalry dates, cup games, playoffs). This may be something that will have to wait until Soldier Field, but I think we can do it and do it well, should we plan ahead.

Anyway, I also wanted to restate that you can still sign up for the list where we try to coordinate a lot of the in-stadium/matchday displays and do some brainstorming by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sectioneightchicago/

No kidding, we already lose our GA seats showing up more or less on time (well, some more, some a lot less :)). I can just see us all parading in just before the anthem (if we could hear it at all), and then finding our seats pirated.

    Well 2 things about that:

A, that's a very good reason for not doing it in Naperville unless we could block off the seats well (I imagine that wouldn't be too hard to arrange in SF) aside from the fact with it being right downtown it'd be difficult to do just in terms of space.

and two, well, that's why you march in early. In Morelia they marched over a half mile to get into the stadium and to their seats an hour beforehand, and they had plenty of time for drinking and eating outside before as well. Now we obviously wouldn't need to march as far or in as early, but coming in en masse for a few games from the tg area, or the south lot, or the field museum and be in the stadium a half an hour before hand is extremely doable.

    Re: The mailing list?

Hasn't been much to talk about in the last few days, but once the dates are finalised for the gym (I should know by the end of the week) we'll have plenty...materials, transport, ideas, etc.

And I did get the CD. Much thanks...but I think it might be a different version than I'm used to...It's been kind of awkward. Basically I've just been finishing projects I start in a different program in Adobe cause I've been having trouble starting them from scratch.

Just wondering - have y'all ever thought of entering the St. Patrick's Day Parade? We're talking a nationally televised event - how wild would it be to see a Section 8 float? Or, if someone knows anyone with a firetruck, use that as the core of the paraders, with soccer balls, etc.

And before y'all think that the firetruck thing is over the top, I do know that there's a national fraternity whose chapters usually have a truck at their disposal! If you need help, pm me.

Now that would be a very good way to get the message out for the Fire and soccer in general.

    Great Idea!

honey - that is a great idea. However, I don't know if there would be enough time this year. That is a good thought for next year though.

What ever became of the big black firetruck that used to be parked outside of Soldier Field, did we trade that to the Dallas Burn for a couple of ketchup packets and some conditional cigarette butts? Why the Fire isn't already in the St. Patrick's day parade is a mystery to me, but I'm beginning to think our management is useless. Sorry, just came over from reading the Nowak trade thread.

I know we have work yet to do tomorrow, but I'd like to publicly thank all you folks who came out to help us today. We've gotten the lion's share of the cleaning and mending done, and construction on the next megabanner is well underway.

Special thanks to Marcin who drove all the way from Plainfield...unfortunately he hadn't heard the news yeat and we had to break it to him, while the 7-0 Independence Day thwomping of KC was going on in the background.

    RE: St. Patrick's Day

Actually, the only REAL problem is having the clearance to be in the parade, and the okay of the Fire front office. All it takes is about 50-100 Fire fans in Fire gear, with St. Patrick's hats or whatever. Add a few soccer ball balloons and (non-obscene) posters or banners, if you can. Having a firetruck as the center would be really cool, but usually a parade such as this will even provide a flatbed truck or whatever to decorate, if you're so inclined. Put up a goal, use a LOT of green, and have tons of Fire schedules printed out to hand to the crowd (I can't imagine that the Fire wouldn't appreciate that part & pay for the printing). It's not as unrealistic as y'all seem to think!

And fun! The national exposure will just kill MLS fans in other cities! And, could totally psych out players!

Look, if the gay pride people can pull this off in less than a month, y'all can do it in two!! PLUS, y'all are in better shape to walk the parade route!

(spoken by someone who has organized several such events with less than a month's notice...)

Well, we do have a tad bit problem with the flag. Soaking will do pretty much nothing. We need to find a laundrymat built for a giant and take it there. It's gonna be difficult.

Ok. We'll work it out today.

Dyeing the sheets again didn't work real well either....they're usuable but I'm going to look for some red sheets on the way in today.

...and damn it, I've got a mind to punch anyone who spits out gum in Section 8... Cleaning all that gum off the checkered flag was a BITCH! Haha!

    That is all.

Does anyone know what happened to the small FU '98 banner that had the skull and crossbones on it?

    St Pat's day Parade idea.

I would be glad to assist in this event because it will give us lots of coverage we need. The Fire truck is a fine idea and I believe its still stored on the south side in one of the Fire houses. This should be a fun way to get everyone involved in a fun day of celebrating our fair city and it's Irish heritage. FYI, as for the comment about the Gay Pride Parade, I wear my Fire kit in the parade since the kits were made public . I have had many great comments and whole lot of Fire chants come up from the crowd there. As the founder of the Rainbow Brigade, I take pride to make the Fire known in our GLBT community left and right. So keep me posted on the planning sessions for this up coming season. May the God of many names lead us in this season of "New Beginnings and New Discoveries" for our men in red and section 8 as well.

    Soli Deo Gloria.

  22. Yes, as CFnwside mentioned, this flag is accounted for. The only one we are missing actually is kinda negative of the Norwegian flag--it was blue with a red-white cross in the middle.

We had 11 large flags and now we have 10, so one grew legs and is gone now, but it is not too big of a loss. We are also missing a few small flags. The count right now is 11 and we had close to 20 of them. However, if we use all 21 flags on poles that we have now, Section 8 at the Cardinal will be pretty full.

    Spanish for "The Red Machine."

If I have any pictures that turned out somewhat decent, I'll post them. But I have to finish this roll of film first. So you can expect them in 29 years.

It was at the game we played at Estadio Cardenale after the equipment sale...we took a picture with all of us and it (I wonder where those pictures are)...but it's still around, I know that.
