I think it's pretty sad that St. Louis soccer fans have wanted a team of their own for so long and now that they have one, the fans are bickering over dumb crap. I stood next to a bunch of the UKSTL guys at the last game, they're great guys and love the game. I'm sure if you asked them about sharing Section 20, they wouldn't object. I wasn't wearing black either and didn't get beat up.
No one is objecting to UK. They're great. We are objecting to a supporters section that holds supporters from many different supporters groups being painted to reflect just one group.
actually I may (I repeat, may) know what part of the problem is here. And maybe it's because I've been married to a Psychologist for almost 4 years, but I think hoosierhooligan1 is reading this as us being a bunch of whiners who are going apespit over something that may or may not be a weird takeover of Sec 20. Where as the reality to it all, being that those of us are having this typed out conversation have all met each other and (I strongly believe) know that it's just a civil conversation by a group of dedicated St.Louis soccer fans who have a concern and a general topic to talk about.
Well as I'm angry about this and I've decided you're the cause....you really don't get to dictate your preferences to me.
Well, I'm pretty sure my season tickets were purchased for section 20 under the "Eads Brigade" name and I've stood and chanted in the exact same spot for every home game--men and women's--I've been to this year. So, paint it black and call it what you want, but if this becomes some kind of stupid "this are 'belongs' to this or that group" routine then blow me. I'll stand where my ticket says I can.
I also wanted to say that the comment about all of us waiting for a club and now we're "whining" about this is actually kind true. While I don't think anyone's whining, it is--if true--kinda bullshit. I mean if it really grows to this kind of absurd level and people really are being pushed aside to appease one group of people then good luck to the club next year getting season tickets resold to those who felt disrespected.
What time is the Growlers meet-up? I'm sure it's in another thread I just have the crippling disease of being far too lazy to look for it.
Man, I'm usually there by 3 or so, lol. I'll be there earlier than 5, anyway. I tend to get anxious. Battra knows me and my giant head by now.
So do we know anything about them painting the stands yet. I drove by at 2 and nothing had changed. And its supposed to rain on and off till the game. So if they were going to do this when were they planning on doing it. I am all for Bosnian heritage night and showing support to the knights and Bosnian player but painting the whole section black seems to me like a slap in the face to all the other groups. Separately we may not have the same numbers but all to together we prob have the same if not more. So why support only the knights?
I have a different reaction to this development. I see this as an amazing show of support by the club for a supporter's group. My guess is that this was UK's idea, and that they made the pitch to the club. I don't see it as a slap in the face to the other groups. I see it as a great opportunity for the other groups to come up with an even better idea to pitch to the club.
To a degree I absolutely agree with you, but overall...not so much. I think it's great you're looking at it in such a light, but this really has nothing to do with any sort of heritage night. If Bosnia produces a quality meal then my fat ass will certainly eat it. I think the UK are awesome and I applaud what they've done. Their community deserves the amount of support its offered to ACSTL. The issue is a matter of respect, and if you're disrespecting these people over here to show a great amount of it to these people here, then that's where the issue lies. That's where people feel slapped in the face. Many of our tickets say section 20. People not in a UK shirt are no less loud, proud and supportive than those in it, and I'm afraid that's being severely overlooked. To be forced out of what's just as "mine" or "ours" as it is anyone else isn't right.
