So its been said that a new NY franchise will enter the league a few years down the road, perhaps 2010 at earliest. Lets say the New owners have 2 names in mind, NY METROSTARS or NY COSMOS, which do you prefer an why? Would any Redbull Supporters jump ship? Why or why not?..Or do you support a completely new name with absolutely no ties to the state of New York? Share your thoughts
Shouldn't the Rhinos be more concerned about their current finances? I mean, I'm getting ready to move and I've been subscribing to one of those forclosure lists and that rinkydink little stadium of yours keeps popping up on it.
i suppose a derby with the Cosmos would be outstanding, The name is still engraved in many hearts who followed the first real superclub that soccer in this country has ever seen, I could definitely see Ronaldino at some point being the Cosmos number 10. Be sweet if that ever materialized
Wow since when is 13,000 rinky dink any one in Hollan would love a 13000 all seater in green and yellow no less strella amadora anyone?
From that list I would def pick Cosmos. The name comes with alot of history, more than any US club to date.
I honestly think that Rochester should come into the MLS. 2 clubs in NY and 3 overall in the region. Why not? Cali has 3.
The NY - NJ rivalry would be the best in the league. Imagine the MASSIVE amount of AWAY support. It would eclipse the LAG - Chivas rivalry. It's going to be intense and its going to FIRE up all northeastern rivalries in general. Add to that the Philly will probably come online soon and this area is going to be the hotbed of soccer again.
metrostars is associated with the RBNY franchise (they may still hold the rights) and if Red Bull sells the club perhaps they would return to the name (though Harrison Harriers has a nice ring to it ) Cosmos has automatic name/brand recognition (even internationally) -- would make perfect sense -- question remains: do they still have to buy out the pizza guy, and if so -- how much?
cosmos all the way! add: not before other cities get a team first however, im all for a second ny team, but i think st louis, miami, and montreal should have next dibbs after philly. jeesh, i hope we go to 24!
Please feel free to continue in the MLS: Expansion forum, where the topic is covered both in the main forum and in the dedicated forum to a second NY team.
