Where do you think he would walk in as a starter? He couldn't do it on Livingston, I don't think he'd be particularly useful in MLS. As an NYCFC fan I would be fine with them kicking the tires on him since Taty is moving on. DCU is in trouble but also just traded for Miguel Berry.
Having snarked so much about him, let be stipulate that, if I'm an MLS GM, I would take him on a 6-month loan-with-an-option to buy. If he/Norwich agreed to the MLS minimum salary. After a trial. And if he passes a fitness test before the trial
I don't know if he's good enough for MLS or not, but he's worth an MLS team kicking the tires on and seeing if they can develop anything there.
What are you basing this on? He's basically done nothing since the U20 world cup. Now hes an MLS player?
Scored some goals in the Dutch 2nd division and for the USMNT, which is basically more than most young American forwards in MLS, have done.
Scoring at the end of a 6-2 rout over a Panama team fielding a B-lineup doesn't really tell all that much. At least it shouldn't.
Here's Soto's stats. He suffered a muscle injury, during the 19/20 season. https://www.transfermarkt.com/sebastian-soto/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/605498 Hard to score for a new team, that gives you limited playing time.
By Euro standards this last move to Norwich is a hammer. Hanover stuff. Not handled well it seems. OK, can be an anomaly. Get another move. Get moved and get bandied about. Don’t stay anywhere long. Don’t produce or play much. Discarded quick. Lot’s of eyes on him. I understand trying to be optimistic but this is real bad. Norwich has pretty much said bye bye. A few goals in Dutch D2 almost 2? years ago and U20 isn’t what it used to be with regards to MLS success. TBH, even back in the day 15-20 years ago players with that resume never had real success. I question how much I would invest in a J Green if I am an MLS TD. He is a proven B2 performer. Soto? Unless I knew him fairly well I’m not sure I even give it much thought. His agent will prove his worth this time.
They did say he was injured at Livi also. It’s something, but he is hard to bet on right now. Has to just find somewhere he can play.
He's young. Let him get healthy and play for the same club, for a couple of seasons. If he's still not producing after that, then we can write him off.
I never write anyone off. I followed Haji all the way down, and that was brutal, but thought he had something. Thing is, even during his fall other teams wanted him and more importantly kept playing him. That is big for me. We’ll see what happens.
That link lists him as suffering from "torn muscle fibre" while at Hannover, as a result of which he missed a total of . . . 3 (that's three) games. In pro football terms, that's missing 10 days at the office from the flu. Also, contrary to @Ray Shoesmith Transfermarkt doesn't list him as having been injured at Livingston at all. That doesn't mean that he wasn't injured at all, but there's a +90% chance that any injury was a minor knock that made him miss training for a few days but didn't keep him out of the side at the weekend.
Livingston was hurting for a forwards as their starting No. 9 went down with an injury while Soto was there. They gave Soto a start after the spot opened up and he didn't cut it. They also didn't like what they saw in training. The thing is that there was an opening for him to play. He didn't have anyone in his way and Livingston would have loved it to work. But Soto came up short. It's fairly alarming too. Livingston had nothing on the line the last several games of the season. Relegation wasn't too serious of a threat and they had no shot for Europe. Still, they wrote off pursuing Soto for anything beyond his loan.
Maybe when you go deep into the bench of some MLS teams you can find a situation where he could be better than existing options. As a starting forward? Look at who typically starts. Bou, Cucho, Bale, Chicarito, Ruidiaz, Fountas, Ebobisse, Ferreira, Vazquez, Campana, Pulido (injured), Martinez, Uhre, Carranza etc... These are the typical forwards that start in the league. It's not as easy as people think it is. Especially for a player whose career is (lets be honest) one failure after another coming out of the starting gate.
well, the funny thing is that Ebobisse and Vazquez are good player who are/were usmnt eligible but they’re probably gonna bolt
Getting a look in Austria: https://www.kleinezeitung.at/sport/...-Klagenfurt-holt-Sebastian-Soto-von-der-Insel A new striker should increase the hit account at Austria Klagenfurt. The final tests for Sebastian Soto, who could score goals for the Waidmannsdorfers in the future, are scheduled for Thursday.
