Looking at what all these teams are doing - the rich getting richer, I feel like we're falling further and further behind. LAG now has Rheus, and beat LAFC, now with Giroud, even w/o Paintsil. I don't know what it will take to even get us back to the lower middle pack. Guys coming back from injuries, some bold moves with the roster (transfer Gruezo please), new DP, some good U22's, some good luck? It is still doable - CO went from last to 3rd this year. But we have to execute really really well.

I mean, for me it’s not even about rich getting richer. It’s arguable the Quakes have minimal to nothing to build upon. There’s not even a baseline.

So, you’re right. The rich getting richer. Rheus, Girou, etc. are the cherry on top of a solid team. The Hernan’s and Espinoza’s might be fantastic, but are Rolex watch to complement the pauper’s rags.

Yeah, I was thinking a similar thing. It would be a different story if it looked like we were in the process of rebuilding. I've said a million times that you can be successful w/o the big bucks if you do it right. But we're not really rebuilding, and it doesn't seem like we're a couple of pieces away, though we have a few solid players. We're kind of in purgatory. Last year was a step up, this year a really big step back. So now what? And do we get a new GM and new coach next year? Will they be better?

I think the best hope is that, magically, Fish hires a genius-level GM or a coach like Wilfried Nancy. But the chance of that happening seems slim. And CL has built up a team - Cremanzidis as "Sporting Strategist", onstensibly to help with the roster, Woly as Technical Director, etc. Would they all go with CL and we start completely from scratch?

It's game day! The Heritage Cup will be decided tonight. We are the current holders.

    2024 has a 2 game series.

San Jose hosted on March 23, winning 3-2.

If we win of tie we win the cup.

If we lose, Seattle will win unless we score 4 goals or more and lose by only one goal (i.e. 3-4, 4-5)
(1st tiebreaker is the most goals scored, 2nd tiebreaker is the most away goals, 3rd tie breaker is their MLS standings)

The 2024 winner will be awarded the Cup in September at a post-game presentation ceremony .

If we win Heritage Cup it will be the 3rd year in a row right? And in 2022 we also knocked Seattle out of USOC, just for added kicks and giggles.

I'm glad this one is at a reasonable hour for us working stiffs back east...

BTW - that Shittle kit with the vertical strip is pretty nauseating...

In fact, today’s game starts at a reasonable hour for us here as well, since it gives many of us enough time to return home from work without missing any of the game.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

Looking at the social media posts of the guys around town in Seattle, looks like Casey Walls(?) and Jamar Ricketts made the trip.

Venture Capital. Meant Seattle. A few days behind, though there are lots of VC's in Seattle.

Where's Brian Schmetz? His wiki page says he was playing indoor for the San Diego Sockers but loaned out for some number of games to "F.C. Seattle". I guess they weren't called the Sounders during that time.

Joe Silviera went to my high school. He played with my high school coach (who played at SCU). Joe would come out once or twice a year to help with practice. Great guy!

His brother was 2-3 years ahead of me in high school. He hated me because I would mark him out of practice games between JV and Varsity. Even worse, our JV Team would often beat the Varsity. Added insult!

The other half of the saying is that the poor are getting poorer.
Which is about right, on the field.
However Fisher’s pocket depth remains the same.

I know but there were interim teams in "leagues" like the "Western Soccer Alliance". I think the Quakes were the "San Jose Earthquakes" during that WSA time, from 1985-1988.
