i'm going to get destroyed in my next league match. Rovers Town. oh joy. i hope I can beat Carib Beer after that becuase I'll get destroyed by Doobie Bombers the next week
I was expecting Greg Morrell to pop to remarkable bowling at some point in the near future, and it happened today. What I wasn't expecting was, it also makes him my most-skilled bowler, as he was ahead of Liddel on consistency. Willie's only a pop away from the same point, although unlike Morrell, I'm planning to take him another level or two farther in both bowling and batting. I'm going to want to work on a specialist bat when I free up some nets, probably a specialist bowler too, but I like the way my squad is starting to come together.
if you don't mind me asking, how long did it take him to pop, at 21/22 years of age. Coetzer popped to wonderful bowling, took 10 weeks with 6 of those being at age 19 and 4 at age 20. 2 nets the whole time.
I didn't keep track of it. He was only on one net, so it has to have been in the neighborhood of 14 wks.
the days play has gone through, just didnt get to see the live commentary. i made 9-336 on my dusty pitch, humid day. was 4-309 so am a bit pissed that i lost 5-27. hope to bowl them out for 150 tomorrow then see how many i can score before the end of the 2nd day.
I'm cruising against an overmatched side. The only real question is whether I declare on day 2 and save PFL or go for the gate on day 3. I'm wavering on the decision, and I think it will probably come down to how many wickets have fallen at the end of the day, if any.
and now i'm 7 wickets down i'll be bowled out shortly, still 5 runs behind. this is INSANE. not sure why my top order folded like they did, nor my middle order.
8 wickets down, a lead of 6 runs. i've got to talk to my groundsman about the state of the pitch. i prefer bowlers wickets, but this is nuts.
I guess Baltopus's bowling was a little better than I expected. I'm barely over 300 runs, with seven wickets (including all batsmen's) down. I've got two batting bonus points for myself to play for, vs. one bowling bonus point for them to concede, with the likeliest result I think being either neutral (+1 batting point for reaching 320, +1 bowling point for being bowled out) or negative to me (+1 bowling point for being bowled out). Since I've pretty much got the win in hand, I'm going to be aggressive and go for the 360 runs, with a declaration target set at 361 on the off chance I reach that point and can deny Baltopus the extra bowling point. At the moment, I have my bowlers set very defensive with a goal of sticking around for the rest of the day and stretching the match to three days. Maybe I should help that along by tweaking my bowling order to get the guys whose PFL I want to preserve at a lower priority.
i've noticed that T Rose (cautious) on normal orders takes a good amount of wickets in FC matches. may have something to do with being really consistent and the batsmen getting sloppy
If he has unusually high consistency, I'd bet he'll perform really well in FC. That was my observation with one of my bowlers last week, he was in horrible bowling form and is only about my 5th best on skill right now, but he was a monster in the FC match and I think it's because he has about the best consistency on the team. He's down to worthless bowling form this week and still only went for about a run an over.
for a laugh check out my match right now. my batting fell quicker then panties on prom night. embarassing really. the guy has two good bowlers (puts up a strong rating in total) but I didn't think I would limp to a 20 run lead after bowling them out for 88 runs. i'm just hoping I can reach whatever target they set tomorrow.
I dunno, I'd expect your attack to perform to about the standard it did in the first innings, and in that case the 20-run lead from your first innings is huge.
well, if i can bowl them out for a lead of less then 100 i hope i can chase it down. who really knows
Bit confused about this whole first class thing I got skittled out for 59 in my first innnings in my current match and my opponent got 360 in return. Now I am in again and expecting to get skittled agian, but this time I am 283-2 making a great comeback. yeah I am not at work and can see my game live today. But why the horrible first innings???
Same reason you sometimes get a bad innings in OD, probably... a couple of really unlucky wickets costing you your normally-reliable bats?
Two untimely wickets could do that with my team, although it becomes less of an issue as I continue to train up depth in the squad.
in a bit of a dogfight now that he got the better of the conditions first innings. he has a 4 run lead & 1 wicket in hand which i hope to get early. setting a declaration target is tough, we both scored @ around 3 an over in the first innings, but i am expecting around 4 an over to be scored today. That would mean setting a declaration about 240ish (60 overs) & leaving him 50 overs to chase it (4.6 an over based on a 10 runs 1st innings lead) seems a bit generous because the runrate today could be anything. might stay @ 3, or move to 5 - who knows?? it is at home so i really want the win, but then again dont want to lose at home early either. decisions decisions
i've yet to have to have to mess with declarations in the 2nd innings. wish i could help out. good luck!
