Sunderlands 19 year old irish midfielder Thornton could be making his Prem debut tonight against Arsenal. Said to be the best irish tallent for years and Ireland's answer to Wayne Rooney. A top up-and-comming central midfielder is just what we need at the momment. If predictions are right he will soon be a regular in the first team for club and country. Who said there is no hope without Roy? Jonah
I sure hope your right, Sunderland needs a miracle more than Ireland does.... he and Thomas Butler are highly touted by the Black Cats...
Isn't Thornton a tricky pacey winger and what's up with prem debut tonight? Against Arsenal? Is there something I don't know..... And I personally think Butler is absolutley amazing, it's only a matter of time before he's a Sunderland regular, if only they had of used him on the right instead of the left from the off.
It won't actually be a Prem debut....but Thornton figures to play today in the Worthington Cup match vs. Aresenal.... Hope to see Thornton on the left and Butler on the right. I would love to see more of them and less of Kilbane and Thirlwell as the season moves on...
I didn't know they were even playing tonight in the worthington cup, hopefully he makes an impression, but I also read today he's off on a months loan?
haven't seen anything about thornton off on loan...where to?? I guess it would be a good thing if he doesnt factor into Wilko's league plans soon....
Gotcha, we'll see what he's got today... Arsenal fielding Pires and Van Bronckhorst in midfield...stern test. Another promising Irish player, Rossiter is expected to play in defense...
I've heard comparisions with Carr already given his apparent attacking style, though Sunderland have a class act there atm anyway in Stevie Wright.
Rossiter started and played full 90 at RB in a stunning 3-2 win at Arsenal....no Thornton or Butler today... Perhaps Rossiter is a player for the future or sooner...
What's happened to Butler? Thornton can play on the wing, but his preferred position is central midfield, AFAIK.
Found out Butlers currently injured, when he comes back I just wish Sunderland would use him on his favoured right side if they want to see the real Butler.
