No, Lampson is the guy I don't like. You're thinking of RedLeader. I just can't think of anyone else in Fire history who's better than Lamp (maybe DJ Countess?).
Johnson relies on his athletic ability far to much- Zach read the game much much better . Both are irreplaceable type players - if they let Sean go I really don't know what to say.
So, you don't like the guy, but can't think of anyone better than him? Wow, you are a tough person to please.
In fairness, Scott played well in the second half of the US Open Cup game against the Stingers. I mean, I think he made a decent save (or 2?) but I actually can't recall for sure if he was tested seriously, just that he came in when we were down 1-0 because Zach got hurt, and we won 3-1, because Nowak.
It's letting Sean go in his prime with a large unknown. Maybe Sean was forcing an exit in the background (Frankly the only explanation I can come up with for why the Fire acted the way they did). It's just pretty crappy to see a player treated the way he was this year when he has been the perfect sailor for the past 6 years on a sinking ship.
Sean is nowhere near the level that Zach was. Sean has never been arguably the best GK in the league the way Zach was, and don't forget who Zach made replaceable. Sean has the chance to get to Zach's level, and Sean may have superior pure shot blocking skills, but Zach was no slouch at those either. Overall Zach had fewer goals that you go back to and say "he could have saved that", and I don't remember many self inflicted ones like the one Sean gave up this year.
I won't pay for Tornaghi's name on the back of one of his Fire keeper shirts. I refuse to enable this type of behavior and am encouraged by the support I've received.

This is a good analysis, especially the point of SJ's self-inflicted goals. Question: Do you think a guy like SJ (and any goalie in MLS 2.0 or whatever you want to call it) is facing more difficult shots based upon the improved playing of teams compared to Zach's era? Here's a nice compilation of SJ saves.
From the Nelson Rodriguez circle jerk err round table. 790948045995315200 is not a valid tweet id #cf97 Nelson says @sjohn25 not in starting 18 to reward @PatrickMcLain24 and to rest sean. Thanks to @FireConf for asking. Why, exactly would Sean Johnson need to "rest" on the last game of the season?
I think SJ has faced much better competition, while playing behind a far inferior team, and made saves every year that Zach could only fantasize about. I love Zach, and would take him over any other MLS 1.0 keeper, and wish he could have retired in a Fire shirt after mentoring SJ for a couple years. That said, I sincerely believe if you swap their careers (let SJ play for the 1998-2006 Fire, and Zach for the 2010-2016 Fire) the "Zach's better" argument would be in dire trouble.
It's what wrong with the Fire. There is nothing wrong in saying "We wanted to give Patrick a chance in goal as this is the last game of the season." The rest is just BS to make themselves "look good" in their own view.
It's hard to compare eras. I would give Zach the nod because he won goalkeeper of the year and was MLS best XI. However, I can understand having Sean in the conversation.
IMO, Sean is a bad goalie. His distribution does stink, but his technique is not right. He reaches out for the ball and then fumbles it. Goalies are taught early on to grasp the ball to their chest to avoid fumbles. He seemed to have potential until he subbed in for Hamid at the Olympic qualifying and with less than a minute to go let a crappy shot slip through his fingers. I said that day that his career was over and I stand by that. I've heard he's a nice guy and believe it, but his cap hit is over $200,000 and he's not worth near that.
That is a sound argument, especially about the inferior team. I am not sure I agree the conclusion, but it is a sound argument. Having the two of them here in 2010 and 2011 would have been great and would have made Sean Johnson even better, I believe. I think it is pretty incredible that Sean Johnson has been with the Fire since 2010. Seven seasons, 168 games, 58 wins, 63 losses and 55 draws. Only 1 playoff game.
You are entitled to your opinion. You would be wrong. He has played 135 of his 176 games after you declared "his career over". He has had 3 of his 5 caps for the USMNT after you made your declaration. His cap hit would be irrelevant, but for the fact that the Fire are incredibly cheap and have few players over $200,000 in salary.
