So merely 6-7 times what Sean Johnson is making?!?

  2. Sean Johnson was never any good. Cost the US the Olympic qualifier. Bad form. Bad distribution. Unreliable. A nice guy, but not what we need. Guzan would be a huge upgrade. US GK. EPL starter for a long time. Get this done but not for exorbitant salary. Get Nikolic. Still need more.

    Unreliable???

He started 28 or more games in four straight seasons.
In 2015, he did have an injury and in 2016, he was Paunoviced, but still managed 21 and 22 starts respectively. Sounds pretty damned reliable to me.

Despite playing behind some of the worst defenses in MLS history, Sean Johnson's GAA record is fairly respectable.

He did not "cost the US the Olympic qualifier." You continue to perpetuate that bullshit myth. The US did not even lose that game, it was a tie. Hamid gave up two of the three goals, because he refused to come out of the game even though he was injured (Hamid gave up two goals in 3 minutes, by the way, after being injured).
And, besides, it was almost five years ago and who really gives a crap about Olympic qualifiers? The US should have been so far ahead at that point it should not have mattered.

Here is a reminder for you:
"Backup goalkeeper Johnson had made a solid save just a minute before the final goal. He was in the game only because starter Bill Hamid came out limping after El Salvador scored twice in a three-minute span in the first half to go up 2-1."

Are you smoking crack again? Did you ever spill your coffee? Did you ever stub your toe? Did you ever hit your elbow on a piece of furniture? Did you ever mark up your tires on a curb while parking? Did you ever lean forward with a plate of food at the all you can eat buffet to reach under the sneeze glass for an extra scoop of gravy and have your corn slide off into the salad? Shit happens and EVERYTIME the subject of SJ comes up you bring up this one moment in his career. What pisses me off about the entire scenario is the goalkeeper who selfishly refused to remove himself before all that went down and let in twice as many goals. Totally unprofessional. When Tim Howard got injured in the recent qualifier he assessed himself as unfit and removed himself for the good of the team. That was how it was supposed to work. Get back in the buffet line!

How about that shit goal Guzan gave up to Mexico in the 90th minute a few week back?

what do you call that, or are you Guzan blinders on.

For the sake of my entertainment. I hope they get this done for an exorbitant salary so then you know what it's like to pay an average ass goalie a lot of money.

I hope that if Sean goes to Atlanta (all signs point to yes) that he shuts the Fire out when they meet. That would be hilarious.

please change your handle to "onenotefvckingmoron" so we don't have to translate for new fans.

you've been arguing all year that the problem with SJ was his salary was too high, now you're arguing in favor of a tiny upgrade at (at least) twice the price. FOADIAF.

1,000,000 reps for this. I forgot about the at that World Cup Qualifying loss to Mexico.

Of course, it was not as important as a Olympic Qualifying draw, of course, when the starting goal keeping gave up two goals.

A 5 year starter wasn't good? Dumb statement.

Fact: You and everyone else don't care about this.

Fact: Every fan thinks they're a scout.
    Fact: None of them are.

    So Joey Barton then?

Using DP money on a GK when there are loads of impact field players available is borderline insanity. Didn't work for Colorado

You are not the GM and cannot care about this. That goes for everyone else too.

Who. Get real. You didn't know the guy before yesterday.

No shit? They release 10 guys and we need more? ******** me. My mind is blown.

SJ is really the last Fire player I felt any connection with. Good luck to him.

Suppose Guzan is willing to take a deep discount, say $800K. Even with gobs of funny money, can you see the Fire shelling out ~double what they paid SJ? Yeah, neither can I.

Now, if MLS is shadow running the franchise (while seeking the right owner), then this scenario actually is plausible (instead of contemplating-one's-belly-button-whilst-on-a-mushroom-trip).

New fans of Big Soccer, I presume.

There are no new fans of the Fire, except for the tens of thousands of Brad Guzanaholics who will not follow the Fire and buy thousands of jerseys when we sign our replacement for... Son of Lamp.

$800k is 3.2 times what the Fire are paying Sean Johnson, so your guess of double in actual money seems pretty accurate (and that is assuming that Brad Guzan will take a 50% pay cut over what he made in 2015).

This whole deal makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree that makes a little sense if MLS is "shadow running" the team.

However, nobody gives a damn about Brad Guzan.
He is a decent, aging goalkeeper.
He is not the "big name" in returning USMNT goalkeepers, that was Tim Howard, of course (and Kasey Keller before Howard).

Now, if the Fire signed Hope Solo....
