I got to Kansas City on a Frid'y. By Sattidy I l'arned a thing or two. For up to then I didn't have an idy Of whut the modren world was comin' to. I counted twenty gas buggies goin' by theirsel's Almost ev'ry time I tuck a walk. Nen I put my ear to a Bell Telephone, And a strange womern started in to talk! Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City. They've gone about as fur as they c'n go! They went and built a skyscraper seven stories high About as high as a buildin' orta grow. Ev'rythin's like a dream in Kansas City. It's better than a magic-lantern show. Y' c'n turn the radiator on whenever you want some heat, With ev'ry kind o' comfort ev'ry house is all complete, You c'n walk to privies in the rain an' never wet yer feet~ They've gone about as fur as they c'n go! [Chorus] Yes, sir! They've gone about as fur as they c'n go! [Gene] Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City. They've gone about as fur as they c'n go! They got a big theayter they call a burleekew. Fer fifty cents you c'n see a dandy show. One of the gals was fat and pink and pretty, As round above as she was round below. I could swear that she was padded from her shoulder to her heel, But later in the second act, when she began to peel, She proved that ev'rythin' she had was absolutely real She went about as fur as she could go!
Re: SE roadtrip to KC is ON! April 12-13th - $255/265 All showtunes aside, this is a nice place. I stayed here for the US v. Costa Rica WCQ and it's in a good location.
OK guys, I had 15 airline tix in the initial order. I posted this info 40 minutes ago and already there are only 12 left. If I have to get more airline tickets, the price for those "late-bird" packages is probably going to be higher than these...so get yours today!
The more the merrier... regardless of your allegiance. The Quarterage is a great spot for you guys to be if you want the bar district at your disposal. Smaller place but right on the strip and easy to stumble home to. When the date gets a little closer I'll try to help give you guys a run down of the places to try based on the crowd demographic that you have coming along. Arrowhead is definitely tailgate friendly and there are some liquor stores very close (walking distance) to your hotel for provisions if something doesn't get set up otherwise. Do you know what section you tickets are in yet?
It looks like we will also have an optional tailgate available to us at the stadium, courtesy of KC's Mystics. Their tailgates from the early days of MLS are pretty legendary, I imagine it will be worth the price. More details to follow...
I've started a Friday/Saturday night party thread in the KC forum https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38006 I guess you guys are coming in Saturday - that should still work out. I'll be in town starting on Thursday the 10th, and I'm overnighting in Chicago on Sunday so as to catch the opener in Naperville, too. Plan on partying in the Westport/Plaza area on Saturday night. I'm guessing we'll all be at Buzzard Beach (where the new Mystics president KC Salty works). If not there, Westport is the drinking district in KC, so there won't be any problems finding a substitute. Those of you who made the qualifier two years ago might remember the place.
I would love to go, but I leave for a cruise to the Bahamas early on April 13....But don't worry, I will be back April 18, just in time to drive up to D.C. from Virginia Beach for the home opener, much to the dismay of my girlfriend..ha ha
That's a good deal, and also a great place to stay. If you're going to stay in KC, stay in the Westport/Plaza area. I think I might just join you guys for this game.
JMU - just let me know as soon as you know so that you can ensure yourself a package. Either e-mail or PM me.
I love pictures like that, irregardless of MLS team. Supporters clubs and supporters in general rock!!
After college, I lived in Kansas City for two years, and would sit and cheer with the Mystics. <sappiness> Some good times they were, and I miss those tailgates dearly. </sappiness> When they were playing DCU, I would sit on the otherside of the stadium. If Andy doug deep enough in his album, he'd probably find a few convicting pictures of me there in an attempt to get DCU supporters to point the finger at me and scream "traitor!"
And there are likely a few photos of me in the Nest floating around, but certainly not during a Wizards game!
IMO, the 2 best places to eat in KC - and this is only if you like meat from cows and pigs - are Hereford House and Gates BBQ. Hereford House is as good as any steak house I've been to in the country and, while it's not cheap, it's cheaper than going to Morton's or Shula's or something like that in DC. Gates is good KC style (sweeter than Memphis) BBQ. The ribs were very tender, the pulled pork very juicy and bitchin' onion rings. It's a KC institution and you'll see why when you get there. As for locations, ask the concierge at your hotel but they are fairly easy to get to from downtown KC, where it appears you're going to be staying. Don't know if you'll have time to hit either spot but if you do, it's worth it and certainly better than hotel food.
One place I always try to hit while in KC is Minsky's Pizza at 51st and Main http://www.minskys.com/ Some good pizza with some unfiltered Boulevard Wheats. Speaking of which. If you drink beer and go to Kansas City - you must drink the fine brews from Boulevard Brewing company
Sorry guys... ...I can see you lot taking road trips to Chicago, Columbus but isn't KC stretching it for two days?
