Rimando named player of the week. Who will win it next (don't bet against Twellman)? http://www.mlsnet.com/content/02/pow0916rimando.html
I'm conflicted now...it'd be nice for us to shut Twellman down, yet he is on my fantasy team and doing well....
Another Player of the Week Courtesy of the Metros! NEW YORK (Monday, September 16, 2002) – D.C. United goalkeeper Nick Rimando has been selected as Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week for the week ending September 15, 2002. Rimando notched consecutive victories against the MetroStars, including his team’s first road win of the season, to keep United in the playoff hunt. United entered the week needing nothing less than two victories (in addition to some outside help) in order to preserve their chances for a postseason berth. The club and Rimando did their part, sweeping a heated home-and-home series with their arch rival, MetroStars, in a span of just 48 hours, winning Thursday in New Jersey and Saturday in the nation’s capital. Meanwhile, the other cards fell United’s way as Kansas City was unable to cement their postseason dreams. Rimando’s first win of the week came when the former UCLA Bruin produced world-class saves on shots from Clint Mathis and a breakaway chance from Rodrigo Faria to post his seventh shutout of the season. The 1-0 win at Giants Stadium also snapped an 18-game road winless streak for United, which earned its first road win since July 14, 2001. The diminutive netminder also showed his leadership and poise Saturday in front of United’s RFK Stadium faithful. Despite an early 1-0 deficit he directed a defense that allowed just two shots on goal. Rimando and United eventually prevailed 2-1, in the face of treacherous weather conditions that threatened to wash away their season at one misstep. Rimando narrowly edged New England’s Taylor Twellman to win his second Player of the Week award in 2002. The honor is selected every Monday throughout the season by a panel of journalists from PSRA.
Call me Psychic...... Player of the Week for the Week ending 9-22-02 Taylor Twellman - after he single handedly beats the Metrostars with a Hat trick, and leads his team to a playoff berth, while ending the Metros hopes of a berth. CrazyG
Rimando? The award should have been given to Clint as soon as he was given the red card for giving the game to DC.
