The e-mail in-box of the real "scout," Santa Clara women's soccer coach Jerry Smith, has been filling up for months now with the international success of "Bend It Like Beckham,"

The friends get a scholarship to play at Santa Clara, and send a pair of sweatshirts to Jules' mom and dad (veteran British actors Frank Harper and Juliet Stevenson, right).

At the end of the movie, there is a team picture, and in it Jess's picture replaces that of Aly Wagner.

Speaking of Aly, she will be on the WUSA's chat line tonight at 8pm eastern, so you Broncos fans might want to get your questions ready...

    2003 Season

Does anyone have any opinions on the SCU class of 2007? I know that Coach Smith has gone on record stating that this is one of the best recruiting classes ever. Will it be enough to replace the seniors lost to graduation (esp. Aly Wagner) and have a chance at winning back the title? Where does this class provide the most immediate impact?

This class is supposed to be one of the best in history. As of where most of the help comes from, its in the midfield. Along with 3 players who can play mid, is the power forward, Dalmy, who was a U19 pool player. The Broncos also gain a valuable defender in Shelger, who i have seen play. Another addition is going to be the redshirt frosh Bonnie Bowman. Jerry thinks this is one of the 2 best classes in history and if you think about it, it would have to rank up with the class of 1999 with Bivens, Clemens and Serlenga, and then the class of 2001 which included Slaton, Kraus and Wagner (redshirted).

I play with Elyse, so from personal experience, Santa Clara has got a great player. She's tough as nails and doesn't have any fear in getting forward. Elyse also used to play forward, so she has experience on excels in the offensive and defensive aspects of the game.

The goal scorer was Tracy Hess. Megs assisted it.

Just wanted to make sure to mention that Jacqui Little and Kim Pickup were also part of that class of 1999.
