Not a huge fan of that defense, but the midfield and attack look interesting. Glad to see Aaronson and Sargent get another look.
So I haven't watched the game much but it sounds like Poch is implementing Nancy ball It's a 3-2-5 in the buildout
There was a random guy in a Middlesbrough (Morris) jersey at the Crew game tonight. I saw him on the south concourse before the game.
Eh, from the little I saw Busio was dropping deep when passing around the back and splitting the CBs. It was 4-3-3 otherwise I think.
So Musah was a wingback? Sheesh, I can already tell you how that will turn out. Tried that in Valencia, it didn’t work, to put it mildly.
He was in the Arfsten/Jones role to make a crew comparison, and he scored. 1845307448153813493 is not a valid tweet id
OK, so I just watched some highlights. The lineup was announced as 4-3-3 (which it was in defense) but switches to a 3-4-3 in attack (Robinson bombs forward). Atletico Madrid did this for a while, Simeone called it a three and a half man backline. Basically Scally just stays tucked in, Musah plays as a half winger (half CM) and with Robinson getting forward on the left, this lets the front three stay in more central areas. Refreshing to have a coach with modern ideas.
I actually feel bad for Ulysses S Chant and Phillip from Chicago. Those two are the only ones that bring it and it's BS that Ulysses S Chant is the one who needs to explain things. These two are good dudes. Why can't national respond to this? Other than stand in the front row and not even chant, what exactly does national do? They very politely should have told US Soccer no that all TIFO needs to be organic and US Soccer could just have literally done this in any other section of the stadium.
And when AT&T came to them and asked for their logo to be added during the game they should have, and could have, said no. Hard no. Forever no.
In the last two WCQ at columbus, they had VW sponsored and printed tifos displayed at halftime. USSF might take in more without SUM taking a cut, but their in house marketing feels very MLS 2.0 with a lot of reliance on fans/Podcasters
I really hope AO Columbus didn't have anything to do with that, or else I'm gonna be making some phone calls.
I think it was sort of a oh hey you guys can you just unfurl this tifo real quick before the second half. It was like 30 seconds displayed in the Nordecke. I believe they were printed and not painted by supporters. Talked to someone who painted the SheBelieves tifo back and April, and I guess USSF changed their plans last minute so that they couldn't use the Tifo rigging system for the tifo they painted
Context: Story: AT&T asked USSF to sponsor a TIFO for Hispanic Heritage Match. We agreed to a 2nd half one. We helped design & didn’t have AT&T logo on despite our asking if they wanted it.At last minute (literally yesterday), they demanded this logo. Had to tape it on during 1st half.— Ulysses S Chant (@UlyssesSChant) October 13, 2024
Well, if you must know, apparently National likes to commandeer capo'ing because "Seattle does it better" and they like to have locally-made tifo in their own commercials. They apparently also like to leave fans stranded in foreign cities while using charter planes. (If I'm wrong on any of this, my source was @Bill Archer.) Why AO Columbus is still a thing...it's really anyone's guess. We unplugged their speakers, but apparently we're buddy-buddy with them now. Huh? But at least we started the "We Love Ya" chant and now we do the AO version because...reasons?
Yeah I understand Peter. I've been to plenty of matches outside of Columbus too. I dislike AO too quite a bit. We all know the Seattle story and 100% of that was complete BS. And your details about stranding fans is sort of right but not really. In 2014 for the Brazil World Cup, AO had a charter package (I'm almost certain it was flying out of Houston). At the airport, the plane had issues so the charter was switched to a different plane....which was smaller so 14 of people had to be cut from that flight. The rub is that I don't think any of the officers stayed behind although I do think that one or two of the people who were left were close friends. It turned into a debacle though because it ended up taking multiple days to get them to Brazil and literally they arrived just before kickoff for the first game. If you want some fun reading on the 14, they started a twitter handle and had a sort of "AO-mazing Race" https://x.com/AOmazingRace The complaint that they stole a chant? Meh. 95% of chants are stolen.
True. We even stole a bunch. IIRC, the "we hate Chicago, we hate _____ too" is an original, but is it really? The music of the "here we go" songs were stolen from "Stars and Stripes Forever" and "Give It Away" but the lyrics, AFAIK, were original creations. I think the complaint @eboe and I share was that Columbus fans brought it into the league, it was changed and we do the new/edited version after the "Respect your Roots" era.
The “Here we go” needs to make a comeback. Fits best as the first song after kickoff of each half. So, twice a game. Others can be more easily be moved around.
It was originally at that time...kickoff. It would sometimes/rarely be done sarcastically when the team needed an extra boost. I think my biggest constructive criticism is that the first three are the same. exact. every. time. It gets bland. And, on that note, didn't we kill off the dumb Terminator thing? Why'd it come back? It totally kills the momentum. I'd be up for bringing either Here We Go back, but the RHCP version was introduced by the group from Shadowbox and they added an "awwww get busy!" at the end. It'd be interesting to bring them back, not mention where we got them from and see if anyone noticed.
