2007 KOMEN NATIONAL RACE FOR THE CURE ON THE NATIONAL MALL Saturday, June 2 Details here: http://www.nationalraceforthecure.org/2007race.htm You can sign up for our team or make a donation here If you don't want to walk/run there is a Sleep-in option (you can support the cause in your pjs!) The DC United game this day is out in LA so you'll have plenty of time after the race to rest up for the late viewing parties. If you are running/walking, please send an email to David Goodwin at outreach@screaming-eagles.com to get any additional race day info (like where to meet up before the race starts). K
Join in on a really worthwhile event!! Thanks, K. for posting the links! We have been involved with this wonderful charity for ages and it is a great cause to spend a morning walking (or running) together! And for you lazy bastards (fat or otherwise ), feel free to open your wallets anyway and "Sleep in for the Cure". I suspect there isn't a single DC United fan out there who has not been affected by having someone close to them have to deal with cancer. This is one way we can all help to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures! Please consider joining and/or donating to our team. Just click here for more information. KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com One step at a time towards a cure!
Are you a REVS fan in disguise ? KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com I'll take New England vernacular for 800, Alex
OK, I signed up for the SE team, and made an extra donation as well. I'll do ANYTHING to assuage the guilt of avoiding doing a 5K...
Uh, yeah, that's the point of the sleep-in registration. http://www.nationalraceforthecure.org/sleepin.htm K
Oh, I thought it was something like that 24-hour thing we did some years ago where you had to go somewhere. Now, why would I pay extra NOT to be there?
Don't forget the Blood Drive today!! And a quick update - we are 72.5% towards our goal. Please consider joining our team for the Race for the Cure or making a general donation here. KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com One step at a time
I had this question posed numerous times at the tailgate, so perhaps a blanket answer might help! Although, we would LOVE to see you in body, not just in spirit, at this wonderful event... it is NOT a requirement! You can still make a donation in the name of the team or an individual participant. As has been mentioned above - you can even sleep in for the cure KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com Spread the word and help the cause!
Guess that I'm not smart enough to figure out what time we're meeting up. Since the race starts at 8, may I assume that we're be gathering sometime between 7 & 7:30? Sorry, but I haven't done this run before and haven't been able to locate the time and place of the meet-up elsewhere (nontheless, I figure that The Truth is out There) and I assume that a gazillion other people will be running this run.
David needs to confirm the time and place we're meeting up (I'll try to get an answer to send out to members ASAP and we'll post here). K
No, you're plenty smart enough! We just cannot meet up where we have traditionally done so, because they have altered the parade route. Sadly no "under the Eagle in Pershing Park" You are correct about the time, however. Breakfast goodies will be distributed between 7 and 7:30am to our team I have to scout out a suitable spot near the start zone between 9th and 10th and Constitution after work today. I will be sending out a note to all those who have signed up. You can also drop me a note directly to outreach@screaming-eagles.com KDGG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com Starter pistols at the ready...
Sadly I was unable to swing by to scout the area yesterday as I was running very late. We are planning on a spot close to the Navy Archives Memorial Metro stop. The good news is that not only will the Metro be opening up especially early but that you don't even have to waste your SmarTrip® $'s because you can get an all day pass - not so that you can become Rosie Ruiz or anything More details will be forthcoming... I also want to thank those who have already signed up and/or donated to the cause. We are within striking distance of our goal!! KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com Join the fight against breast cancer!
We're REALLY closing in on our financial goal, hope to see a few more bodies sign up (read the instructions carefully re picking up shirt and race bib as deadlines for mailing have probably passed). K
OK, gang - Our intrepid explorers have scouted out the environs and come up with a suitable meet-up spot (complete with our favorite birds of prey - if you look really closely at the pic). That's right - Where: Meet under the Screaming Eagles at the base of the statue of General Winfield Scott Hancock. Directions: For those of you not familiar with area landmarks that is at the corner of 7th and Pennsylvania. Metro: Navy Archives Memorial Metro stop on the Yellow and Green lines. When: My son and I plan to get there by 6:45am to have the breakfast goodies all set for folks by 7am. The Plan: By 7:30am all of us should have gathered and munched down the goodies in time to walk to the designated "Team Meeting Area" to be photographed with our special banner. Here is the blurb from the organizers of this grand event: BTW - a fun little nugget about these equestrian statues can be found by clicking here. and for those who would like a little more information on the general. KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com In 2007, 62,030 new cases of in situ breast cancer are expected to occur among women.
Most importantly, there is a Starbucks at this location (and if they have any sense they will be open!!) K
You would be correct, it is in the old Firemen's Insurance building right across the street from our statue - almost like it was planned that way I would be surprised if Starbucks would let the chance to make some moolah pass them by... but just in case we'll bring some water & OJ along with the breakfast goodies. PSA - There is still time to sign up and/or donate KGDG Come On United (States and DC) www.screaming-eagles.com Standing Up for DC
Thanks to all the runners and walkers who made the day a huge success!! Here are some of the pics from the race itself. Special kudos for Jessica D. our MVP with an outstanding effort that will be setting the bar very high for folks next year, she truly showed how to Stand Up for DC We blew through our goal and already have raised $1,300 for the Cure - AWESOME!!!
