Okay, it's slow here at work today so I've tried to figure out which players the metros might have an interest in based on their needs (a central defender, a defensive mid & a right sided mid), affordability & the desire to put a "name" in NY (or NJ, if you will) which surfaces from time to time. Also, we only have one SI spot open.

    here's my list:

Jordi Cruyff (hey, he can cross the ball)

Tim Sherwood: (hey, he can cross it too)

    http://www.soccerage.com/en/04/06608.html

    Arthur Newman: (Hup Holland!!!!)

    John Thorrington: (decent young NAT)

    http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/roster/men/thorrington.htm

Joe Enochs (better than Moore, I'm sure)
    http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/2001/feb27b.htm

    Earnie Stewart: (allegedly considering MLS)

    http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/roster/men/stewart.htm

David Regis: (I don't like hime, but you can just see him ending up here)

    http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/roster/men/regis.htm

    Greg Berhalter
    (NJ product)
    http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/roster/men/berhalter.htm

David Ginola (the big name candidate)

    http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/foot/ukie/34271.html

Me, I go with Sherwood , Enochs & Berhalter to improve the team. Ginola & Regis to improve the quality of heckling. Feel free to disagree. This is intended purely for your amusement & discussion & is not being presented as any sort of "inside information."

    Thanks

I've been told by someone with a pretty good reputation that Metro is interested in a U-17 named Jonathan Spector from Illinois. He's a defender who has played for the Fire reserves, and I'm told he's pretty level headed for a kid.

I've also heard (from someone else) that MLS recently made a handful of U-17's contract offers, and I assume Spector is one of them.

I think Regis would be a fine MLS-level left back.

Ever notice how much better he plays when O'Brien plays in front of him on the left side? I'd think he could do something similar with Brad Davis on our left. We could have Regis-Jolley-Petke-Akwari across the back, which could work out well.

Nothing like having to start the idle speculation early because we missed the playoffs.

.... And then we went snorkling with Brad and Jennifer and cooked the grouper right there on the reef.... it was nice.

Got some young players I know of and seen playu before:

MF Brent Jacquette-good on the ball, has some potential if given the time to develop and play

D Ben Dawson-senior at PSU, played in World University games, could be a great asset for our defence if Metro try to persue, just that he's would count as an International player
    http://www.gopsusports.com/SoccerM/People/players/Playerprofile.cfm?rosterID=283

F Brett Forbrich-I know he's a forward, but he would be good to play as a sub late in the game. quick legs, good shooter, but can have the accuracy of Faria though...

Congorilla, do you think that Regis, sherwood & enochs are outside of MLS's price range? It's not like we're talking about Zidane or Davids.
