well, if there are 400,000 americans in scotland and 400,000 on the isle of man he's dead on the money, so maybe we've judged too soon.

We're using Waliatiger standards here. Which might mean we need to count Dublin's American population.

Hah! About 5 years ago I stated on BS (in WR, no less) that John O'Shea was my favorite player on the English Nat Team. I'm still recovering from the bruises.

A FN government would be in the best interest of France right now. Holland and the socialist party have been a disaster.

above all he knows nothing about the FN. has Holland been a disaster? i'll buy that. but there's no way the FN can be good for anyone.

waliatiger, do you realize that the FN is a party founded by a man who tortured people to death during the war in algeria, and used a hitlerjugend dagger doing so? that he and his family have amassed a miraculous fortune through no other means than using the coffers of the party as their personal slush fund? that he passed power on to his daughter after stomping on any perstective rivals? that she has boosted her pretty, blond, hopeless airhead of a 22-year-old niece to #2 in the party in like fashion?

above all, do you know any of marine le pen's ideas? above above all, have you ever heard her speak? because it's not just that she's a conniving, hatemongering crypto-fascist. she's an absolute blithering idiot. her level of historical, political and economic knowledge and her capacity of expression put her below ted cruz, and several notches below sarah palin.

Yes I know all about the Marine LePen's despise his ideology and ideas. Marine Lepen was a OAS bastard in Algeria most likely a Vichy sympathizer and a crude and hateful man. His daughter is a cleaned up version of him. she has put a respectable face on the far-right. The FN are harsh on immigrants, want to bring back the death penalty, very anti-muslim and anti-minority, and they would promote traditonal cultures and regional autonomy for The provinces.

I beleive France need this governance to hit rock bottom and then recorrect itself by returning to its values. I didn't know Jean-Marie was that dumb. If she was that dumb how has her party reached it's height of its popularity? Is it just frustration with Hollande and the entire political establishment or are people buying into the far-right ideas in France.

well, since you know all about it it's no use pointing out to you that jean-marie is the father, marine is the daughter.

along with the virulent xenophobia, return of the death penalty, dismantlement of the EU, return of the franc, ultra-reactionary plans for education, social welfare, restriction of abortion etc... the FN supports or at least pays lip service to all kinds of populist demagoguery: they espouse "regional independence" because it's a good market for them, people leaning that way are neither the most open-minded nor the brightest (no offense meant to scots btw - the question of scottish independence is a far more valid one than for any french region) and a plethora of lesser measures like amnesty for all traffic tickets and elimination of the point system and radar, reduction of public transport etc. etc... none of this can be considered a platform; it never takes more than a few minutes' analysis to see that none of their "ideas" have been thought out to any conclusion logical or otherwise - all just the hollowest most half-baked sort of vote-mongering.

as for popularity, the FN is an important party only in areas you can term distressed (france's northern rust belt) or reactionary and racist almost by nature (the french riviera). of 577 deputies in the assembly only 2 are FN... whereas 9 are PCF! the fact that marine got 17% of the vote in the first round of the last presidential election shows a general rejection of BOTH the major parties (hollande and sarkozy together only got 55%) but also underlines the importance of the cult of personality in the le pen scheme of things.

as for rock-bottom, it's perhaps good for alcoholics, for countries it's a mess!
