French Midfielder Gourvennec In Crew Camp Good work by Shane and the boys His personal website [L=Jocelyn Gourvennec ]http://jocelyngourvennec.sports.fr/fr/gab_journal.asp[/L] Interesting front diary on the front from what I could make from the translator. He said he was going on vacation in the US(I guess that's what he calls a trial in the US). Getting married in June as well. I think it means he switched to a more defensive midfield role for Bastia this year and didn't get much playing time at the end of the season. In his words since the translator did well on this part "I am thus in phase of reflexion for my future. What I know, it is that I want to play, to invest myself in a project. Sportivement, I think that my qualities are intact, physically and psychologically, I am also very well. At 32 years, I am still in very good condition and the example of players like Gravelaine, which contributed largely to the rise of Istres, or Carboni, champion of Europe with Valence at 39 years, shows that the age is not a problem
He's an attacking mid, but I think he says that this year he was moved to a defensive mid role to help the younger players. As always online translators suck, but here's an interview from the official Bastia site Jocelyn Gourvennec
aww dag yo match night dudes had it first im putting on my phonebooks right now in case this message board war jumps off. file down my toothbrush for a shank yo. Seriously though I am just worried about age. Every old european we bring in is a bust what makes this guy any different?
This one is at least first division and nothing I can find on this guy seems to say he has a history of injury, so that's a plus.
Gourvenec is a good player technically.Unfortunately his career has been plagued by injuries, lack of confidence, etc He could help you for the short term.
He's a big music fan. Morrissey is a favorite. But I really think we should be careful about picking up a guy named Jocelyn.
Actually, he was picked up with much fanfare by Marseilles in 98 or 99, touted as this spectacular playmaker. It didn't pan out so they peddled him off to Rennes because he needed a "fresh start". That didn't work out either and he ended up playing out his contract with Bastia. He's fallen short of his promise and is likely a little short of first division options in France. His pedigree says he can play. He might be worth an extended look. Clearly, when healthy and on his game he's a top-notch playmaker.
I think we should give Tony Sanneh a shout. His agent, Michael Becker, represents Landon Donovan and Cory Gibbs and has thus established a history of working with MLS. To stir the pot, http://www.transfermarkt.de shows Sanneh's contract as being up soon. I wouldn't be surprised if Nurnberg didn't have him amongst their plans to finally consolidate their place in the Bundesliga next season. His versatility would give us all sorts of options in midfield and at the back, though I would prefer him playing alongside Elliott as a deep-lying midfielder. And for the other signing, if we do indeed have one, sign the young Canadian Maycoll Canizales from Werder Bremen's amateurs to give us a solid alternative to Denton on the left. As for Gourvennec, signing him would probably signal an increase in defensive duties for Elliott and surely bench time for Paule, all things being equal. But the whole injury thing isn't promising considering we already have a Maze. I guess we'll see.
Guys, he's just in camp for a few days. There will be two other guys coming in for a look. One next week and the other a week following next.
I'd take French flair in a second, the lockeroom however, I'm just not so sure about. When you are born French, or brought up French, it doesn't wash well here, sadly, this is why as a favor to him, stay at corsica, or somewhere around there, most of us dream of being there someday. You beat us to it.
i know nothing about the french leagues. is the french first division the highest or do they have a "premier" league above that?
So if they're supposed to be bringing in two more guys on trial, where are they? I figured we'd have heard about one of them by now. Anybody know about it?
