http://scn.matchnight.com/scn-show.cfm?article=770 Sounds like he's begging for Smith and Hunt to give him more time and have patience with him. -Buddle's ankle still "tight" but playing. -Marshall will be back sooner than expected. -Every single player on Columbus Crew's gigantic squad practiced on Friday, the first time in 2 years according to GA.
"We weren't able to find the time and space to do that, so we worked a lot on our shape offensively and a lot on getting the ball forward quicker." Last season we worked on our shape defensively all season, this year its on the offensive end. Unbelievable. Maybe we can fire Andrulis and just bring in a geometry teacher if thats what has really been our problem for two seasons.
Yeah Greg, the SHAPE of the defense was the problem, not the complete lack of communication and inability to mark a player for more then 2 seconds. Why don't we worry about stopping those world class goals, instead of looking organized doing it.
Then what the hell is it they spent the last three months working on? I mean, I know they worked a ton on fitness, fitness, fitness (although to be honest they didn't look any more fit than the Tards last Saturday) but did they find maybe a spare afternoon to maybe just DISCUSS how to play the game? Or did we just show up the second week of the season, slap ourselves on the forehead like in a V8 commercial and say "Wow!! Soccer!!! Scoring goals and working the ball upfield!!! DAMN!!! I KNEW there was something we forgot.
Those were my thoughts too, Bill. You have preseason and the Spain trip to identify some of these issues WHILE you evaluate personnel. This was a significant problem LAST YEAR. Why would anybody be surprised that it still existed with KMart still in the AM role. Perhaps it is not all KMart's responsibility, but I certainly would have been working on the issue I knew existed last season. Greg must really have believed that the issue really was all injuries and call ups vs. a shape and style problem. If you watched the DC - Gals game you notice Nowak has worked on DC's shape and ball movement. I thought they looked really well coached and disciplined vs. the Gals. Harkes for Crew Coach - everyone would listen to him and he definitively understands the game.
Just chiming in to repeat what everyone else said. I watched the DC match too and I thought the quality those two teams have far surpasses anything we have. We're still MLS year 1999 while they are obviously MLS 2004.
This is funny. The descriptions I received of practice this week are far different from those I read about. Hmmm. Interesting.
See, to me, this is the whole, entire point. I think team management thinks that we're disgruntled, whineyass fans because the team loses. And to be sure, we're none to happy about alking out of the stadium at the butt end of an ugly score over and over again. Absolutely. But aside from losing, this team simply looks clueless much of the time. You get great individual effort from most of the guys, players like Hejduk and Busch and Cunningham who leave their hearts out there on the grass. But it amounts to nothing, and will continue to amount to nothing, when guys like Bradley are simply light years ahead, tactically, from this vanilla, Junior College brand of soccer we play. It's frankly become embarassing.
Totally agree. After watching everyone else, we're pretty much fvcked this season. It's really sad when you realize how far behind your team is compared to everyone else. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe that Greg will get sacked anytime soon. I need a drink.
