Who's attending this match on Saturday at the Mines? Of those attending, any idea of the youngsters who might play?
I guess I'll be there to support my wife's alma mater. Also, Mines made it to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer National Championship for the first time this past season. Below are the stats from the past season, They might be better than the rapids. 2005 Colorado School of Mines Soccer (M) Colorado Mines Overall Team Statistics (as of Nov 14, 2005) All games Overall: 13-7-4 Conf: 6-4-3 Home: 7-2-2 Away: 5-5-0 Neut: 1-0-2 TEAM STATISTICS CSMMS OPP --------------------------------------------------- SHOT STATISTICS.......... To be perfectly accurate, CSM made it to the NCAA tournament and lost in the second round to the eventual national champion Fort Lewis. I'm sure it will be a top notch event.
Gates open tonight at 5 p.m., folks! I left a couple of messages trying to find out about the stadium's tailgate policy, but in the absence of a response I suppose we should just arrive ca. 5 p.m. anyway. Then, if anybody tells us we're not allowed to do whatever it is we're doing, we can just go on inside and enjoy this beer garden I've been reading about. Though I doubt their beer garden has ficus trees. See y'all tonight.
Anyone else have a report? Something notable, such as who played. Wierd experimental lineups - like Petke at striker? Who looked good... who looked bad. Who scored and how. Details? It's a bye week.
I don't think I saw Clint, but it seems like all the other players---even Thiago---made the trip to Golden. I am glad they held the game as a fundraiser for a new stadium, because they really need one. Several members of the team & staff commented on how awful the pitch was. It was visibly crowned in the middle, and there was probably about an eight-inch rise from one goal to the other, or at least it looked to be so. There were also a couple of very bare patches with rock and dirt where grass should have been. Made for a couple of crazy hops when the ball passed through that barren area. I am bad at game reports, but I can probably at least come close to getting the starting 11 right . Somebody else can correct me and/or put the players in a fancy line up, please. Bouna Petke Dedi Gargan Luchi Wasson Peterson Fabrice Wingert Freeman Harvey Subs included King, Gotsmanov, and Keel? The goals were scored by Luchi and by Gargan. A third goal Rapids was called back for offsides (as was an Orediggers goal). The officiating was not the finest I have seen! Sorry, that was pretty lame, but at least it was something, spot. There were several other regular posters at the game last night. I hope they will fill in the commentary!
Fabrice? He played? I asked him not to. Told him it would be better if he rested. Kids. Always sneaking around when you're not looking. Seriously, though, he is feeling better now. He is finally settling into his first complete season of training. Shin splints are just about gone. Now, if we can get him to shoot quicker and not hold the ball so long. It will get better and better for him as he gets a look at and plays against more and more of the opposing defenses.
Or he didn't play. I have a shockingly bad memory sometimes. I was really hoping somebody else who was at the game would confirm/correct what I posted. Ringshot? He's In Fashion? Anybody???
Rapids' 2 scores were off a free kick and a corner- nothing from the run of play. Noel didn't play. Colin Clark was also playing. Luchi looked good.
Here is how the Rapids started Bouna Freeman Petke Keel Harvey Wasson Gargan Dedi Clark Luchi Peterson Luchi scored on a freekick in the 11th minute from about 25 yards from goal on a one hopper past the keeper. The Rapids looked to build up their attack all night and didn't play many longballs to the forwards. Instead they kept possession for nearly the entire game. Mines strung together a high of five passes in the first half. Gargan's goal came off of a freekick by Freeman in the 64th minute. The ball came to the back post where he put it in with a diving header. The Mines fans wanted a couple of PKs that were rightly not called but the officiating was weak at best. Overall not an exciting game on a horrible pitch.

Forgot the subsitutions Halftime -- Wingert for Petke 2nd Half -- Gotsmanov for Clark, King for Peterson
klh23, you can't be serious? We all watched the Rapids reserves/developmental roster outclass a Div.III school for an entire game. We all watched Mines play all 10 outfield players in their own half for almost the entire match, with the exception of a handful of counters and about a 5 to 10 minute stretch after the half. I thought a a couple of the Mines players did themselves a disservice by hacking a couple of our boys down from behind in a charity match.
