agree with the goals struggle. bringing in Gordon and Wood (why?) was never really going to solve that either. maybe if they get Isak going but it's still a big ask
What do folks make of Onana. He seems to be quietly having a great season, under difficult circumstances. I can see him thriving under Dyche, but then moving up a step thus summer. Is good enough on the ball for a more elite club? His passing range and ability to move the ball fast enough with passing? What do folks think?
I have only heard reviews haven't watched today's game but he could be the kind of 8 to help a Newcastle really take the next step. At the Euros Belgium is gonna have him with Lavia and KdB in their midfield. Actually if Southampton go down should we be in for Lavia as the backup to Case or will he want too much money?
Klopp is cracking up under the pressure. He wouldn't have lasted a season if he came up against Fergie's mind games 🤣 pic.twitter.com/JRSDzSm3j1— 𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙖 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙨 - aka Larry 🇾🇪 (@Cantona_Collars) February 4, 2023
Onana stood out in the win over Arsenal, that's for sure, but does he have end product? He looks like someone Dyche can rely on to rally Everton out of their hole given his work rate and desire, but very tough for Everton given Wolves, Leeds, WH, etc, are in better shape to stay up. Problem for Everton are goals and DCL is not himself these days. They need him to step up. If he doesn't, Onana might be someone worth a look in the summer. No chance he goes down with Everton. But if they stay up, I see him staying. They will want to keep someone who works that hard for the team.
Bruno is excellent. He's a big miss due to a red card suspension carried over from the EFL cup. They're carrying on with their form from last season TBF. Also Howe has changed since his time at Bournemouth when he played a more free-spirited brand of football. He has become more cynical. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...astle-are-so-hard-to-score-against-eddie-howe
Pep doing Pep things again. KdB benched. I'm not even quite sure the formation, but it's different from usual it would seem.
Stats padding fraud, as teso used to say (& no b4 anyone says - no, don’t want us to get him, that ship sailed a few years ago) 200 - Harry Kane is the third player to score 200 goals in the Premier League, after Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208). Kane scored his 200th goal in his 304th game, fewer than both Shearer (306) and Rooney (462). Illustrious. pic.twitter.com/NfWXhVWXVt— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) February 5, 2023
Remember all the talk not even a year ago from the media and dippers fans about they were the greatest Prem team ever?
I think I want Spurs to win this game against City. Finishing above City in a CL place and winning a trophy would be a great first season under ETH.
for all their monetary troubles, Barça are running away with La Liga given the two results today. hard to see Madrid clawing that back now
Sevilla + Valencia in 16th and 17th respectively. Could either of those, or perhaps both get relegated?
Wow - shocker. Like, who knew ….? BREAKING: Man City charged by Premier Leaue with numerous breaches of financial rules following a four-year investigation. This is unprecedented: pic.twitter.com/ZGzdX210qP— Martyn Ziegler (@martynziegler) February 6, 2023
Could this be the time when someone finally drops the hammer on City? Reports are saying they can’t take this to CAS for appeal like they did the UEFA ban. So let’s see if the PL actually has the balls to level them like they should. If it’s anything less than a major points reduction then it’s a farce. However, a points deduction basically hands Arsenal the title at this point. And if they think we won’t use that against them they’re fvcking crazy.
i hope they get stripped of titles. in fact if they even forced a sale and left them in a lurch i'd be perfectly fine with that too
https://www.skysports.com/football/...-numerous-alleged-breaches-of-financial-rules the story. surely they need to investigate chelsea as well. surely you cannot use simple amortisation to skirt rules
I really hope the punishment(s) fit the crimes here, but I'm so cynical on this issue (financing in football) that I have a hard time seeing how it will be anything other than a (big) financial slap on the wrist. At a bare minimum, City should be docked points this season and next season.
Ugh. Whether it is binning the old manager, the new manager or just getting out of a rut - teams do seem to get a bounce (as we saw at Everton).. We play them Wed and Sun. Have to see how fast they move on a new manager / interim. CONFIRMED: Jesse Marsch has been sacked by Leeds.Meaning they’ll turn into 2009 Barcelona in their games against us… #MUFC— Stretford Paddock (@StretfordPaddck) February 6, 2023
Pity for Marsch. Corberan, the man linked to the job, was a disaster at Olympiacos. He would be a gamble no doubt, but at least he's familiar with their set up and can get up to speed fast.
