From Sigi Schmid's post on MLSnet: But then something small happened that became quite large. Goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi scuffed a goal kick. The ball went harmlessly out of bounds. Then he did it again. The United supporters directly behind his goal took this as a cue to increase their shouting and taunting of Bo. Nervousness seemed to creep into the Wizards game. D.C. United started to combine and the running off the ball improved. And before you knew it, 1-1. A great pass by Brian Carroll and a wonderful finish by Alecko Eskandarian. But I need to ask a question: Who allowed the United fans to sit directly behind the goal and put the K.C. fans into the corner? In regards to fairness this was not fair. Either put both fan groups behind opposite goals, or sit them both in opposite corners. But, you cannot put one behind a goal and the other in the corner. I could hear the chants watching on TV, I guess "Bo knows rabbit ears." Mad props to all the fans at the HDC.
I'm pretty sure those were United fans who just bought their tickets all in one place. The KC fans could have done it as well, they chose not to. Just because the KC fans chose to not sit behind the goal, then it doesn't mean the United fans should not be allowed to sit there.
He's right, DC were more vocal giving DC the edge. Now I'm not saying KC has bad fans but they can't compare with DC. All teams need a force like this to further help MLS grow. We are the future, not the players. NASL proved that. More groups like the Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava and the vocal capacity will allow venues like RFK become almost impossible to walk away with a result.
its not DC supporters fault that they got into Bo's head. thats their job... DC bought their tickets all in the same spot, kc could have done that. thats the best compliment DCU fans have ever gotten
As I posted on the galaxy thread.. Anyway, I have a comment then a question for you and the rest of the DC supporters. First congrats on the title for DC United. it was an exciting match and they deserved it. My question is regarding your seating arrangements. It seemed that the placement of both DC and KC supporters were extremely unfair. In watching you guys behind the post I can tell that it had a large impact on Bo. Although I don't think KC had a chance to win regardless I'm at a loss for words as to why you guys were allowed to sit behind the goal and KC was put in the corner. Who was responsible for this and why was it allowed to occur? It just seemed really unfair for the KC fans to have to endure you all trashing the goal and Bo while they could only sit there and watch it happen. But after reading these psots if indeed it was just a matter of who bought tickets in what section than more power to you and shame on the KC fans for not doing the same.
It is neither our fault nor our problem that KC fans were not sitting behind a goal. Nor is our fault or our problem that the KC goalie allowed a bunch of jacknut fans to get inside his head. If you LA fans and former staffers are so interested, ask the Gals front office - they're the ones who were handling ticket sales, right?
To me this just begs the Monday morning quarterback. Would Meola have gotten rattled as did Bo? I doubt it. Good job, United supporters.
This is something that struck me during the warm-ups. I was one of the "jacknut" fans sitting right behind Bo and it really seemed like he was shocked he was getting this type of treatment. I know someone else mentioned that he reacted to us after his team went up 1-0. Throughout warmups it was obvious he knew we were there and he made eye-contact with us several times. Now, I don't know why KC didnt get there fans behind the other goal and really I don't care, but I was personally shocked that Bo was reacting to us the way he was. If he was playing anywhere in Europe or Latin America he would receive abuse far greater than what he received from us just about every other week. We did our best, but lets face it there were only 300 or so of us, in these hostile stadiums he would be facing 20K or more. I personally can't wait for the day when its common place for 20K fans to harrass and ride players and players keep their cool and perform.
1st props to DCU fans for showing up in such numbers. as for why they were sat there someone else mentioned it blame the Galaxy FO. Initially they were going to be in 136, right next to the Riot squad the Galaxy supporters club then they moved them to where they ended up. this was the same section they had but the FIRE fans in last year, it was no mistake I would bet not done on purpose just poorly planned.
The wiz could have contacted the FO to get tickets behind a goal, just like the United fans did. SOL for the wiz that they diddnt..
It took all but 5 minutes for Bo to get all razzled... As soon as they came out to do their pre-game warm-ups the SE's and BB's were already on him - his mistake, he actually turned to the fans in the stands and started to have an argument with someone - then, instead of practicing the KC players started launching shots into the stands - all that did was rile up the DC suporters even more. The rest, as they say is history - the chants were non stop and got even luder and more supportive after KC scored their goals - I'm certain the players fed from this.
LOL! Best compliment any clubs fans could ever hope for I think. This dude is seriously an idiot though. How is it unfair that our supporters happen to not only be LOUD, PROUD, ORGANISED, have LARGE NUMBERS even travelling? We have are sh!t TOGETHER, better than any in MLS, and we BRING IT better than any in MLS too. Yeah, thats real unfair. Did SE/BB actually GET those sections on purpose? or was it really a Galaxy FO "mistake" or blunder? The only thing that is unfair about any of this is that its unfair to the KC WIZ fans that they have players on thier roster who are easily rattled and gotten to, and cant FOCUS 100% on what they were there to do, and that was win the cup. Too bad, so sad, no ones fault but thier own.
I think they had some sort of other section planned for us. Eagles (Paul or K I imagine) called up and said we have several hundred people coming, this is section we want. Then we all just bought tickets through SE If we played by MLS nerdy rules we'd be sitting in our seats playing plastic trumpets. At least I imagine that's what happened, I'm glad I'm free to put energy into other things while people that are experts in getting us into best spot handle that aspect
Quite true. KC's players were deliberately trying to plink our supporters with balls "miskicked" into the stands during the warm-ups. KC and Bo got all that they deserved by riling us up and by even acknowledging our existence they let us know we could get to them.
Sigi Schmid can blow me. If all four KC fans would have got off their ass and did something about it a week before the game then they could have sat behind the opposing goal. I know the Eagles were planning on and selling tickets to this game WEEKS before DC was even in it. Does that fat piece of crap really think MLS wouldn't love to have opposing fans facing each other behind the goals? NOBODY put us there dumbass, people WORKED hard to make it happen.
You said it, Srdan! We've got it made! Doubters only need look around at what "supporters" of other teams are able to accomplish. DC United supporter groups have a synergistically symbiotic relationship: the SEs excel at organizing, La Barra Brava excels at expressing our frenzy, and La Norte is the spring of youthful revitalization (not to mention the confetti volcano and teepee broadsides). Quiet siders are along for the ride, but their numbers are vital to the success of the team, since they tend to 'pay for the gas'. Once their intertia is overcome, RFK reverberates so loudly that the nation takes notice. Well done, everybody (and please don't take offense at my generalizations)! GM
Actually, SE's bring the wine and cheese!!! Don't you forget that! I am morally outraged that you didn't mention this and praise it to the heavens! While disappointed that I was unable to get out to LA, I am very happy to have seen so many DC fans in attendance. Along with the well attended road trip to Jersey for the first game and of course the two home games, DC United proved that we have the best fans in the league. Good show to all y'all that made the trip!!!
