With two head coaches positioning opening up in the last week and possibly more at the end of the season, could Brian Schmetzer be on the verge of heading out? I missed this last year, but apparently Schmetzer interviewed for the Impact job and I can't imagine it hurts to have Schmid throwing out that he thinks Schmetzer is ready to be a head coach. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sounders/2018416634_sounders13.html
Personally, I wonder if his trip could be significantly closer.. Let's just say, perhaps Mr. Sounder could be following Mr. Sonic. Particularly if Spencer doesn't start to perform better. Of course, TA's head would collectively explode if that were to happen. Of course, if I were them, it would be exploding from excitement, but I doubt that would be the direction they would go.
We want Schmetzer to succeed should he leave us (just not against us). And Portland is not where that would happen. So given those two things somewhere in the Eastern Conference.
I dunno. I think Schmetzer would be perfect for Portland. With how much input Paulson has given TA they need someone that understands TA and, hopefully, knows how to work around them. Of course, the downside is that TA probably wouldn't see getting Schmetzer as the coup that it is and would, instead, focus on his years with the Sounders and not give him a chance to improve the team.
I agree that he could do very well in portland, but like you point out, i doubt the TA will "let him" succeed as it were. I'd rather see him go to an eastern conference team anyway. whereever he may go, i'm sure he'll be successful...just hopefully less so against us
This Timbers fan would be ecstatic to see Spencer replaced with Schmetzer. Of course, I would also be ecstatic to see Spencer replaced with a radio contest winner. Or a dead refrigerator.
Hmm with the recent firing of John Spencer, i wonder if Schmetzer is contemplating about coaching Port...... ahem Portland Timbys
I'm sure he'll get an interview, but as long as Wilkinson is there, I hope he doesn't take the job...
