http://ruffneckwear.bigcartel.com/product/seattle-supporters-scarf Is there a particular reason everybody else gets "the (insert color here)" or "come on you (nicknames)" and we get "********ing mental"?
I'd rather have a scarf that I wouldn't be embarrassed about hanging on the coatrack when I go to visit my grandma or have to look around for four year olds before holding up, to be frank about it. It's like going around being one of those douchebags with "********" on their t-shirts. Who wants to do that?
What's nice is having options. There the F*cking Mental scarf, ESC scarf, a couple of official scarves. Lots of choices. The more the merrier I say.
Exactly. It's not like this is the only option. If someone feels that the phrase "Let's get f*cking mental" encapsulates their support of the team, this is a great scarf for them.
Wow...what a classy scarf. I picture it being held over the head of some lout with no shirt, hairy armpits and a cheap tattoo injected across his chest and arms. The man is screaming, drunk, and singing off key. It will probably sell well and make someone a hefty profit, because to a lot of guys this is exactly what being a soccer fan is all about. They picked the wrong fans though, because I am telling you this would sell like hot cakes in Columbus.
Just wait until Qwest security starts tossing people for displaying them. FAN CODE OF CONDUCT Qwest Field management is committed to creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for its guests at Qwest Field and Event Center. The facility’s staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where event patrons, their guests and other fans can enjoy the event experience free from the following behaviors: Smoking on Qwest Field and Event Center premises Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures Intoxication or other signs of impairment related to alcohol consumption Fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures Sitting in a location other than the guest’s ticketed seat Displays of affection not appropriate in a public setting Obscene or indecent clothing Any disruption to the progress of the event by guests’ actions Throwing objects of any kind Any other conduct that is beyond the bounds of reasonable behavior for spectators attending a professional sporting event Each guest should hold his or her ticket stub and be ready to display it to stadium officials to verify their seat location. All Season Ticket Members are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their Guests and/or persons occupying their seats. Even though they may not be considered signs by those holding them.... Banners and signs are permitted during Sounders FC matches as long as they do not obstruct the view of guests or block stadium signage and must meet the following requirements: Item may not be constructed of wood, metal or any other material that may cause harm to others as determined by stadium management. If a holding device is desired, poles MUST be made out of a hollow ½ inch PVC Pipe and no longer than 3½ feet long. Any pole longer than this must be pre-approved by stadium management. Banners and signs must be event-related, in good taste and not commercial, political or offensive in nature. All signs must be hand-held; signs on sticks are not permitted. Qwest Field reserves the right to remove any banner or sign.
I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like there's some huge ground swell behind this product that would make one believe that you might see hundreds of these at a Sounders match. I'm sure there will be some who purchase it, but if anybody brings one to a game, you're probably be hard-pressed to spot one among all the ECS and club scarves being held up. Like I said, what's the big deal?
You sure do seem to imagine this drunken, shirtless, hairy man a lot. Going shirtless isn't a common practice among ECSers that I've seen. And although tattoos aren't my thing, I have to say the ink work I've seen on ECS guys had been pretty impressive stuff. As for the charge of being drunk and singing off key, well...
Was it really prudent to print the eff-word on the scarf in all its glory? Why not just have it say 'lets go f*cking mental?'
It's just a word.... Like others have said, it will be pretty tough to pick them out mixed in with all of the other scarfs.
Because we all know certain sections aren't given special consideration with regards to these rules? Oh wait... there are three sections where fans are allowed to go above and beyond.
They'll stick to the intoxication and obscene codes. They run intoxiciated and obscene fans out of Hawk games all the time. The "special consideration" for GA isn't carte blanche to annoy others.
Things like this really bother me about Seattle. Way too passive aggressive, and way too P.C. You know, I doubt these are selling that fast. It's really nothing to worry about.
I think my objection to putting "let's go ********ing mental" on the other end of a scarf with us on it has everything to do with it lacking class and being completely lame and nothing to do whether or not it might offend womyn and the multigendered and ethnical minorities and extraterrestrials and the Model United Nations club and whoever.
People that use profanity lack class and are lame? Sure, someone that uses them all the time might sound a little uneducated, but I wouldn't judge their "class" based on it. My only real objection to the saying is that it was featured in that Hobit Hooligan movie.
Honestly, it's not the profanity itself that bothers me. I have no problem with yells and chants and heckles that aren't strictly PG-13. But I think as sports fans there is kind of a unspoken acknowledgement that you don't put it down on paper (or polyester or cotton or whatever), or at the very least we recognize that we don't need to go there. As a silly example, you can yell at some opponent player that it is your opinion his girlfriend gets way too friendly with German Shepherds all you like, but if you held up a sign stating or illustrating this you would be run out of the stadium pretty quickly.
Maybe RuffNeck wanted to make a bold statement about the perceived mental state of the Puget Sound region?
I have the ECS supporters scarve of course being a member. I was curious though. Where can one get the Sounders FC scarve that I have seen a few of the players hold up in pictures?
You can get the official scarves on the sounders website. they would be OK if they did not have the "Adidas" logo that is bigger than the Sounders one on them
