I guess we could use a thread like this, though ther is already this Scandinavian/Nordic thread in the 'Movies, TV and Music' forum, but it is perhaps a bit hard to find, if you do not know where to look : https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78417&page=14 .
I think a thread here is fine. This is a BIG site, a lot of people don't check every section. I've actually never even ventured into the "non-soccer related" forum lol. But for here, do you guys listen to Poets of the Fall? I first heard them in 2009 and they've become my favorite band. They're awesome, and are from Finland.
Did you know ? ... that the top of the American billboard is dominated by Scandinavian songwriters at the moment ?.. The Katy Perry song - 'E.T.' , Ke$ha's 'Blow' and P!nk's 'F**kin' Perfect' are all written by Swedish Max Martin who is also co-writer along with fellow Swede Alexander Kronlund on Britney Spears' 'Till the World Ends' .... Rihanna's 'S&M' hit is written by the Norwegian Stargate production team (Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen) and though Lady Gaga is not Danish, her big hit 'Born This Way' is co-written and and co-produced by Danish Jeppe Laursen, better known from the pop duo 'Junior Senior'... http://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200#/charts/hot-100?chartDate=2011-04-02 .
not sure if this is the type of post you are thinking about. But i`l give it a try. Some clips from the Norwegian gradutation parties. In Norway we party for 3 weeks before the exam . During theese 3 weeks there are somm big gatherings. For example 5 Tryvann (Oslo) parties. Tryvan won the silver prize for the second wildest party in the world. And you have 2 country gatherings over a weekend. One in Stavanger and one in Lillehammer, bouth the same weekend. The reason the celebration is before the exams is because of the wild partying after the exams and the length of the partying. How mutch the moving of the celebtration helped can be discussed All of the sound , light , smoke , foam , bus rings etc is organized by the students them self. And you have to be a graduating student to get in. Anyone here a fan of any Winter sports? My favorite winter sport is ice hockey followed by speed skating, never really got into skiing or anything like that.
Festival season is upon us and nothing is more festival than DAD [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00BygQLKSUE&feature=related"]YouTube - D-A-D Roskilde 05: Laugh 'n' a ½[/ame] damn I wish I could still drink for 6-7 days in a row
well, unfortunately denmark sucks at all wintersports but I have allways liked Ice hockey and have followed the danish team since they were in the C group- really impressed with the way they have developed during the years- thank you Sweden
I want to send a tribute to our hockey players in the World Cup. Beat Sweden. Led 2-0 against USA . Beat Austria 5-0 and beat Switzerland 3-2 . Our ice warriors have performed way over the expectations. The players them self say : We sacrifice everything. And the hockey manager said : It is Norway's trade mark. http://www.vg.no/sport/ishockey/artikkel.php?artid=10085340 Hail Hail our ice warriors
Roskilde is great. About the drinks ,just keep it going and you will cope. You will just have a hell afterwards .
the biggest problem is warm beer in the morning. you wake up in the morning in the tent with a dry mouth where it is 40 degrees and the only thing near to drink is a 30 degree warm beer you need to have masochistic tendencies to survive congrats to the norwegian ice hockey team btw- impressive
According to wikipedia, Canada has almost 2.7 million registered soccer players, while ther are only around 1.5 million registered ice hockey players in the intire World. Or in other words, ice hockey is a very tiny sport. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_hockey#Number_of_registered_players_by_country Never the less, Norway and Denmark are clearly punching above their weight in ice hockey. .
Oh yeah quarterfinal against Finland . Good luck to my Scandinavian brothers from Denmark. The Russ ( graduates ) are now in their last week of celebration . If you happen to be in Norway in the summer you could try some of the festivals. The summer are in Norway as in Denmark a festival season . Here is a list of some of the festivals in Norway 2011 http://www.festivalmagasinet.com/norske-festivaler/
Sweden against Finland in the W. Champs. final of the ice hockey tournament. A big rivalry for shure. But also impressive performances by both Denmark and Norway in the World Championships.
Danish beer. Tuborg, Carlsberg. You name it. The Danes are world-class when it comes to beer. They are amazing. What can I say! I must also try the Ceres beer. Made in Aarhus. Mariestads beer from Sweden is good by swedish standards but nowhere near the Masters at beer (The Danes). I will drink some Laapinkulta (Finnish) if we win the world Championships in icehockey. If we loose maybe some Absolute Vodka to drain the sorrows. During Easter we drank some Aalborgs Akvavit! Ifkgötet
Carlsberg is crap... Ceres Royal and Faxe please http://www.royalunibrew.com/Default.aspx?ID=1795&PageNum=4 http://www.ceres.dk/?ID=3 ... or some of the stuff from the many microbreweries... If you ever stop by Copenhagen or Aarhus then visit 'Bryggeriet' Sct. The Finns beat the swedes 6-1 in the World Championship Icehockey Tournament. The swedes were outclassed in the end. Congratulations to Finland!
Congrats to the Finns with the gold and the Sweeds with silver. Beer: Carlsberg and Frydenlund . And i might just take a trip to visit some of the microbreweries in Denmark . Norway have jus celebrated our national day the 17`th of may.The Constitution of Norway was first adopted on May 16, 1814 by the Norwegian Constituent Assembly at Eidsvoll (a small town north of the country's capital, then called Christiania), then signed and dated May 17. It was considered one of the most radically democratic constitutions in the world at the time[citation needed], and is today the oldest single-document national constitution in Europe - the second oldest in the world - still in continuous force. May 17 is now the National Day of Norway. "Don't mention the war" While Danish top director Lars Von Trier became the first ever to become 'Persona non grata' and actually thrown out of the Cannes festival, for making provocative Nazi jokes, then fellow Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn won the 'Best Director' award at the Cannes festival Sunday, for his high-octane and highly violent Film noir 'Drive', about a Hollywood stunt driver, who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver in the criminal underworld. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO1PCKcXfC0"]DRIVE: "Cannes" Clip: In Theatres September 16th 2011[/ame] more at imdb.com review : http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/cannes-2011-review-nicolas-winding-refns-badass-new-film-drive/ ... not surprisingly (all things considered ) Lars Von Trier's apocalyptic Sci-Fi drama 'Melancholia' received no awards aside from Kirsten Dunst taking home the 'Best Actress' award.... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_xsm46s2Gg"]Melancholia Trailer[/ame] more at imdb.com .... and as usual, Hitler himself was not at all amused about thw whole Von Trier incident : [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aezomVPkJPk"]Hitler not amused by Von Triers ban from Cannes filmfestival[/ame] More seriously, it should be remembered that Trier's mother was a communist who joined the resistance in Denmark during the war and fled from the Gestapo to Sweden in 1943, where she met a Jew whom she married. So most of his life, Trier happily believed he was Jewish, until his mother revealed on her deathbed, that his Jewish father was not his biological father, but that he was part German instead, which is the reason that he now jokes about being a "Nazi" (or rather, joke about other ppl thinking he is a Nazi, because of his German descent), which he of course has never been. It no doubt was a big shock to him and difficult to come to terms with the fact, that he suddenly was part German and a "Nazi" (in the eyes of other Danes), when he had been proud of being Jewish. .

Just adding a second clip from Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive", quite simply because this movie is raw, intense and the acting is all top notch....
