We got to get him home!

    Translation:

.Madrid 'reactivate' operation: getting Xabi to Madrid.
.The representative of the player had a new meeting with Valdano and Butrageño today, and it seems things are looking good between the 2 parties.
.On wednesday the president of Real will be in Madrid for business, and will use this opportunity to meet with Florentino to possibly sell the player (for a 5 year contract)

The possible signing will 'pause' (i.e. 'ctrl alt delete') the possible transfer of Emerson.

Oscar if Xabi moves to Madrid, I swear amma get u some good news that would make you happy as much as this one made me. Only one thing to add, to confirm the deal. Then, I swear we will see a completly different season from El Real.

In El Real situation, getting Emerson is a huge mistake. He might solve some proplems for a year to two or even three, but for sure he won't as good as Xabi. Emerson is crab if you compare him to Xabi. Look at the age of both of them and you'll know that Xabi can help alot more than Emerson. Also this young Spanish is talented, he is gifted with a good long range passes and perfect shots (Valencia tested that, also El Real).

Let's pray that Perez end his meeting with Socidad presedent with the perfect decision.

It's going to take a ton of cash to get him. Sociedad has all that money from selling Reyes to Arse. They don't need to sell anyone in terms of cash. Obviously they wouldn't want to hold onto Xabi if he didn't want to stay.

Reyes played for Sevilla, not Real Sociedad.

Real's president says that no deal has been made yet with Madrid regarding Xabi.
That the only obstacle is the money being offered.
That Real isn't looking to include any players in the deal, they only want cold hard cash.
Once again says there's a chance that Xabi will remain in his current club next season.

Now the article on AS, I liked that so much better than this one. It was practically the same, but it also included this little angelic sentence:

"existen diferencias económicas....que no son insalvables"

In other words, there's a difference between the asking price and what Madrid want to pay, but those differences aren't too big that they can't be talked about.

This LINK will self-destruct in 20 seconds

The player's manager brings up a good point; that Rangers might drive up the transfer price for Arteta if Sociedad get a good amount of money for Xabi Alonso.

So...it wouldn't be in Sociedad's interest to sell Xabi before the Arteta things gets finalised. It all makes sense now! Madrid will wait with getting Xabi untill after Arteta moves to Real Sociedad, that's why they didn't get him yet. :D

Anyway, the player's manager also confirms there still isn't any deal with Madrid.

So does this mean Figo is out, or do they try to play them together?

What does this have to do with Figo.

By the way...Figo has already made declarations he isn't going anywhere.

Zidane and Figo will probably both retire as Real players. Once they start declining they will just end up on the bench and become poster boys for the marketing department.

There was some speculation that Figo was on his way out, which is probably why he made that statement. When we are talking about ANOTHER midfielder for Real Madrid, one has to think "how many can you fit on the field!?" I was asking those with better access to Spanish media what they thought.

So are you thinking that Figo and Zidane will just kind of informally become subsitutes, rather than have some ignominious end like going to Qatar or God forbid, a lower level team in Europe?

I always imagined Zidane would play his last season for Marseille.

Xabi is a central midfielder, Figo plays on the right wing.

Even if Xabi played on the same position, Camacho has said that he will rotate the players that get to play in the upcoming season, so that the same thing doesn't happen as the last season where the same guys that get put on the field each and every match aren't as fit in the 2nd half as the season.

Even Morientes has decided to stay in Madrid instead of getting playing time elsewhere, so you know Camacho is going to rotate the Hell out of these players. ;)

If Xabi doesn't get bought before tomorrow (friday) then his possible transfer to Madrid will have to wait untill come the elections, because nobody would be 'authorized' to make a transfer in the meantime. Things were looking good, so I'm hoping tomorrow will be a great day....or else methinks the price for Xabi will go up post-Euro Cup.

SoccerNet is basically reporting that if nothing goes wrong in the end, XAlonso should be wrapped up tomorrow. The Sociedad manager said that a deal would probably be reached, which is great news.

I'd like to see this, assuming we don't get Totti or Joaquin (even though I'm still hoping we can get one or two)

    ---------Ronaldo
    ---Raul

    Zidane-------Beckham------Figo
    ------------XAlonso

Also, Figo could play on the left, Beckham on the right, and Zidane in the middle. The bench will have Solari and Guti, who both are top-class subs. Hopefully we can get Chivu and either Totti or Joaquin, and then lets start the damn season!

I like Xabi a lot........but doesn't he pretty much play the role Beckham is playing now? He's good defensively, but not good enough to cover for 3 players who go forward all the time........also I would imagine that formation above would have a flatter midfield. Beckham is not a player that can slot in behind the strikers, he needs to play deeper.

I think if you get Xabi, Beckham has to go. They're going to be in the same position on the pitch.
Which makes me happy, because I want Beckham to go to Chelsea. :)

    ................Ronaldo
    .................Raul
    Zidane......................Figo
    .........Alonso.....Beckham

    R.Carlos..Samuel..Helguera...Salgado

There is the first formation that comes to mind.

Camacho had already said that they will use the same formation as last year.

Plus, Camacho has firmly stated there will be lots of rotation, how do you think he got Morientes to agree to come back.

Do you really think that's enough defensive cover in the midfield? I'd think someone like Davids would fit perfectly in for Alonso or Beckham..........

I think it will be enough defensive cover. I think Alonso and Beckham are both strong enough defensively to provide solid (not as strong as Makalele or Viera, but pretty substantial) cover for a vastly improved defense. I'd still like to see Chivu signed promptly, and obviously a confirmation of the XAlonso deal, but I think that this is a much more solid and strong defense. It also is important that this is Real Madrid, not InterMilan, and we are known for offensive talent and attacking strategies. Obviously, Camacho will be more defensive than we're used to, but I'm sure Real will still be primarily focused on scoring goals as opposed to preventing them.

I agree with your assessment as far as defensive cover, but I would still take Davids as a free transfer if the price is right.

That's what I was afraid of. Yes I wanted to see Spain doing a good job out there in Portugal, but not for Xabi to be a super star in this tournament :).

I think the price Socidad asking for him depends on how many years will the contract be count on, if its 5 years then 16mil won't be so bad, IMO.

Such a young player who for sure will improve in future playing beside super stars we have.

Meaby someone will think that price is too much on him, but hell am really worried about not buying DM at all. Is it just me? :(

Roma has decided to let Emerson go to Juve, recognizing that if they don't sell him now he'll leave on a free next year. So that's one less alternative to Xabi Alonso, and by the way Real Sociedad have signed Arteta, which was supposed to mean they might need cash, although I think Arteta cost them only 4 million. If the Carvalho/Costinha deal goes through, I'm not sure if the team still needs Xabi.
