There can be no question that he loves Columbus and especially the Crew. He didn't need to be part of the solution, but he wanted to be.
Previously the TV broadcasters were simulcasted on the radio. A TV announcer doesn't have to explain as much or state the score/time since you can see that stuff with your own eyes on the screen. A radio announcer paints the picture with his words.
You mean hearing "HIIIIGGGGGUIIIIIAAAAANNNNNNNN" and then silence for a few moments doesn't translate well over on radio? I'm here like...what did he do? Shoot? Was it close, did he have a guy on him? Did he do a slick pass, did he get fouled.
The radio calls from the 2008 season that were on the Cup podcast made me realize that Neil has it in his repertoire but he has gone full Gus Johnson on his TV calls. I like the excitement but there's a fine line between over-explaining and under-explaining that's unique in soccer that simulcast tv calls just don't work. I doubt I ever have a reason to listen to the radio but I am glad it's there for those who will use it and available if I ever need it. Plus it's being done right. Bez in the shop like:
I might be the only person who is excited for the radio broadcast deal, but I have a decent reason why. Since my father passed, I am often the one that has to help my mom out with things around the house. This sometimes means running errands or heading to Lowes or HomeDepot to try and fix things or buy things like wasp spray and insulation to patch up a cable hole that resulted in bees entering her home. This has made me miss a few crew away games, because after cleaning my own home and working on things at home, I've often left with having to do work during Crew games while my fiance is at work to help her. This has lead to a fair amount of listening to the radio either on my way home or on my way from a store to a store. Other times I've listened to the radio while going for walks or working out when I couldn't get the Crew games on the TV at my home. So yeah, I'm excited for better quality radio broadcasting. And who knows, maybe we can add a fan or two if our radio productions start sounding more major league.
Jim Smith. Forgive but never forget. Greg Andrulis. I am not sure if you guys are aware of this lesser-known fact, but pink slips were dropped on him. Multiple times. One time it was like a pink brick. And I remember putting anti-Greg banners around the stadium. But we got Sigi in 2006. After all that we have been through (and really just the passage of time), I have little ill will against Andrulis. Heck, I would understand if he felt more negatively about those above-mentioned actions than I ever felt about him.
From what I understand, his wife wants nothing to do with Columbus. Apparently, things got a little *too* personal. Oh and the photo of the corporate-level CSC guy with the smokeless tobacco in his pocket...
Didn't Andrulis accuse someone of trying to run him off the road with a dump truck? That puts Loughnane's complaints to shame.
