This may have already been posted already, but their is an on-line petition to save the Whitecaps.

I know most of us have a low opinion on these on-line petitions, but it doen't hurt and can only help.

Here's the link to the story and the petition.

I just dont understand? They have plenty of people in the stadium? They have good youth clubs setup.
Is it just the wrong owners? Maybe it is the travel coast? Does the stadium rent cost alot of money?
I am very disturb at the fact that a club that has a better following then alot of USL clubs is making things difficult for itself. I guess this makes me appreciate the other USL owners who watch the bottom line and still make it work.
Vancouver is one heck of a city and one heck of a soccer town. There stadium is a great set-up.
I love to watch soccer games there.

If you read Tim Holt's interview earlier this week w/ Kentomasch (sp?), I don't think you have to worry to much about Vancouver. It's one of the more popular franchises in the A-League, and if the league helped keep Hampton Roads on its feet until the ownership question could be worked out, then I'd like to think Vancouver is safe as well.

Of course, I'm an optimist... :)

The league only had to keep Hampton Roads afloat for 1 week before they found a new owner.

It seems there is no one in Vancouver who'd like to own a team as his/her toy.

    Rochester NY, but or
    I signed.

I would hate to see Vancouver league, it would leave a hole in the league for a long time.

Although, i think they should cut a few teams, like Cincinatti, who dont draw much. Theres too many teams in the A-League and becasue of that some rosters are filled with no namers. To create a more equal league, there has to be less clubs.

Alot of Ex. Hershey players from last year made a couple teams very good, esspicially Montreal who were better this year then last seasons Hershey team even though they only took 2 players from them. A couple others i just cant name now.

Didn't the league already keep Vancouver afloat for almost all year? I thought the owners bailed in May and the league has been financing/running the team since then.

The league took over both teams at about the same time, but Hampton Roads had a new owner emerge almost immediately, who immediately started putting MLS talent on the team.

Vancouver is still waiting for a new owner to come forward as the league has run the team for most of the season. The league has stated that if no deal with a new owner is struck in the next few weeks, they will suspend the team's operations. I'm assuming they are trying to get a deal finalized before the league meetings which start in a month.

So they have until October 24? K-head, when the original Whitecaps folded, how long did it take? I've read that when the league met in Fairfield, CT in March 1985, only seven teams showed up and only two put down a deposit for the 1985 season. And then it was a pretty suddenly collapse. I've always figured that Toronto was one of them, was Vancouver the other? And did they try to find a home elsewhere? In the MISL? The USL? Were the owners the same ones who started the 86ers? And when it comes to stewed prunes, is three enough? Or are four too many?

The first time the Whitecaps folded, they did so basically because there was no league to play in. I don't know who put money down or what. I doubt Toronto was one of them who put money down. The Whitecaps died with the league.

I don't think they tried to get into the MISL as indoor soccer never was big here. When the NASL forced the clubs to run indoor soccer teams in the winter it was always a poor draw here. Perhaps one of the reasons being that Vancouver is one of the few places in Canada that has its youth soccer season during the fall and winter months. Kids are playing soccer outdoors, not watching it indoors.

There was no plan of going into the USL, but to be a club in a newly forming CSL. When the 86ers were founded it was community owned by more than 400 people. The team name 86ers was given to commemerate the year the club was founded (1986) and the year the city was founded (1886).

When it comes to stewed prunes, one is clearly too much.

There's now three interested parties, not just two.

Lots of negotiations going on at the moment, although I'm not sure how Lenarduzzi can be striking deals with potential owners when he's busy providing lousy colour commentary for the Canadian Nats on Sportsnet.
