That's right - he's got personal plans...whatever. I suspect we will see a lot of changes from yesterday's team. We might see Paddy Kenny, Doherty, Thompson, McPhail, Douglass, Kinsella and Lee. In fact it might be a whole new first 11.
line up: Colgan - Finnan, Cunningham, Doherty, Maybury - Miller, Holland, Kinsella, McPhail - Robbie Keane, Lee. will be instereasting to see how McPhail does.
Nigeria lead 1-0 at halftime, we seem to be getting played off the park, hopefully Kerr will change things araound a bit.
result - a rather easy 3-0 win for Nigeria. Hopefully we can play a bit better next weekend in Amsterdam.
Well what can you expect when you play the likes of Lee, Kinsella, McPhail, Doherty, Maybury and Colgan.
I'd guess Kerr was just giving Colgan a shot. I saw this result today (I didn't even know the match was on, quite embarrassed really) and thought 'aaahhh it's oly an U21 match', then looked again and saw it was senior. Not too worrying, though, as it's mostly an experimental squad, but it does highlight our lack of depth, moreso in some areas than others. I am extremely frustrated, however, at Colgan still being in the squad, let alone starting. Kenny should be over him, and Joe Murphy & Graham Stack deserve a shot or two (I hope somebody signs them this summer or Stack pushes for LEhmann's spot as he is quite poor).
i was there coz i took my girlfriend and her mum as they are irish! quite good fun - nigeria was missing loads of people and they still rinsed ireland ireland missed duff
Only two players in that team would be automatic starters for us, with Matt Holland/Miller being 50/50 weather he would start with Keane and a few others available, so it's hardly a suprise a team as good as Nigeria did that to us.
How much longer is Duff supposed to be out anyway? Once a shoulder is dislocated, isn't it easier for it to recur?
He could be playing now if he wanted really. He's having an operation now to fix the problem for him.
yeah sure thats whats supposed to have happened to him this time.since he poped it earlier in the season during a premership game,a few weeks ago he sliped in training and poped it out again. and what you said was the excuse chelsea gave about the accident.
Sure is. Just ask Riggs, poor guy probably still has Danny '3 days from retirement' Glover lagging behind as they chase criminals down the mean streets. ***Edited to change the quote.
Well it makes sense doesn't it? I mean wouldn't the ligaments be stretched out from the earlier accident making them easier to give if they were under stress? And so what if that was the excuse Chelsea gave, it's a logical excuse.
I guess the result shows how weak our squad is, I mean I would expect our second 11 to go out and at least put in a decent performance against anyone in a friendly. These are the players supposedly playing for their places after all.
Nigeria played their second string side to start and then made a rake of substitutions throughout the match , they comprehensively outplayed Ireland everywhere , at times the Nigerian fans were oleing each touch as the Nigerians held possession for long periods and toyed with the Irish. The one niggling worry to take from this match is that Cunningham for a second game in a row looked REALLY slow and vulnerable.Lets just hope its post season fatigue.
Duff is going to have (or may already have had) an operation that will prevent the injury recurring as it is well known that dislocated shoulders re-occur much more easily after it happens the first time. With regard the Nigeria match, I too did not even know the game was on. But, looking at the players that started for us it is not surprising that we got whipped. Our 2nd eleven is much much weaker than the second 11 of most of the other big countries and we just have to accept it. We had too many weak links playing in this game and I am confident that we would fare much much better in a competitive game. Oh, and when are all the anti-Keane grudge-bearers going to grow up and let by-gones be by-gones? It is getting quite tiresome. We are where we are - accept it.
Heh, no, that was totally calm. I didn't come over here to make enemies. I just realized how that looked, but I was just pointing out that it made sense. Sorry
