So MLS thinks that partnering with USYSA and the state associations is the way forward.

Well, I suppose if by forward you mean a system that failed spectacularly in the 80's and 90's and almost destroyed grassroots soccer through greed, politics and cronyism then sure, this is a great leap forward.

And someone can please tell Besler for me that yes, the proposed MLS bubble plan will indeed require some sacrifices.

But there are lots of job which require a month or two away from home in this world, some of them much more than a couple months, most of them not as well paid as the average MLS player and, shockingly, some of them even involve having people trying to kill you on a regular basis.

Youre being asked to go hang out in a hotel in Florida, play some soccer and drink beer with your freinds.

Cry me a freakin river, Nick.

I mean yes, you're right, but at the same time you generally know that's part of the deal when you sign up for those jobs. Its not unreasonable for people to have concerns when the nature of their jobs change suddenly like this.

And its hardly only the players sacrificing. How many players, were they to do this, would be leaving pregnant wives/girlfriends? How many international players would be leaving their families in a foreign city with little to no support structure? How many would be turning their families into a one-parent family with no school/day-care options available, especially if their spouse works?

Yes, all of that is something that can be figured out and yes, its short term, but yeah, I understand players saying "wait, you want me to do what?".

So many alphabet soup youth organizations - US Youth, US Club Soccer, AYSO, SAY

Anyone know why we got to this point?

    Weak leadership from US Soccer.

    Empire building/ rent seeking.

    Politics, petty jealousy

FWIW I just sent a text to a former SAY President, and asked him your question. Ill let you know what he says but I warn you he hates the whole bunch of them

Thanks. Have to admit I'm not that knowledgeable about the whole youth soccer landscape and governance. Other than being in the rec U-8's to U-13's back then.

I only knew about the US Club Soccer split from US Youth Soccer in 2001, and Paul Kennedy's piece about Bob Contiguglia trying to unify the youth division.

I think about of it is simple greed. Why is US Soccer getting sued so much? For so many years youth soccer was the only money path in this country. Now that the pros can actually generate cash, everyone wants their slice. My one hope in this is that MLS has enough incentive to generate real players that they will kill some of the political nonsense that toppled the system last time.

We should have the blue angels fly over Orlando as tribute to the MLS players and their sacrifice.
