Santino arrvies in Manchester on Dec.11

    For your information.

Santino will arrive in Manchester on December 11th for a week.

A decision on that training spell will be made in the first week in January. A price has been agreed. I personally know, having spoken to him today for MUTV, that Sir Alex has seen enough of the player to believe he has all the tools to be brought along with the coaches and facilities that Man Utd. have.

I will be interviewing Santino next week on MUFC On-Line.

I find it amazing that he is being paid so little money?

    Regards.

    Rich.

Which is it? October 11th or December 11th?

It's probably a phone interview next week, and training in December.

That makes sense, Lowe. Let Tino get in shape with U-20 regional qualifying before he goes for his audition. Really though I'd guess that any question isn't about signing him but rather where to place him in the ManU system- in the junior system or possibly with Royal Antwerp.

I did speak with another Man Utd. official today who actually said Santino is only on 60,000 dollars a YEAR in MLS?

Please tell me this is not the case?? I find that unreal.

That could be an overly-generous estimate. I believe the minimum pay in MLS is $24,000 per year. Tino is likely making more than that, but $60,000 may be a little high!

$24,000 works out about 17,000 pounds. Santino could get a job in Stretford's local Asda supermarket for that sort of money!

oh yeah...that's unreal!!! Ha Ha!!!! Who could believe that one!!!! HAHAHA!!!!

Er, I thought he was making less actually.

Rich- believe this: Each MLS team has a salary cap of about 1.7 million dollars to be spent on salaries for the WHOLE TEAM. As part of that the max salary for a player is 265K per year. Technically Tino is classified as a developmental player and most of those guys get 24K a year, but Q is getting some extra money though none of us fans know exactly how as it's not counted against the salary cap.

Um ... Tell it to me slowly.

What's going on here? Is this just a trial? Training? What are the odds that Q1's gone next year?

    $$$$

Doesn't MLS throw in some money for college, too?

    Knave-

In my humble opinion, based on MUFC's statements, they have negotiated a fee contingent on a successful training stint.

    Does that sound right?

We're not going to lose him like Benny, are we?

$60,000 at age 17? Doesn't seem that bad to me. I'm actually kind of surprised he's getting that much, considering MLS is notorious for poor salaries.

From the information I have, he will arrive and a train at the academy for the first few days. He will then spend at least one day with the first team.

A few things that may be of help here are:

He will be open to the media on his final day in the city, which is not always the case with players here for training.

We do rotate a lot of players through the system, but an invite is an important factor for reasons to check into his mental attitude. I have personally seen players become star-struck, which is not a positive.

The vibe I am getting, along with my weekly meeting with Sir Alex is that this is all coming down to him staying injury free, along with a good attidude when he arrives in December.

It was Man Utd. press office that granted me the interview with Santino.

The deal between United and MLS (although this was brokered by your manager on the most part late last week. He was here in Manchester a few days ago.) is sealed should everything go to plan.

I don't have an exact figure of the transfer, but it is reflective of the high regard we hold in his potential.

I honesly do not know all that much about him, but I do trust Sir Alex's judgement.

It is late here in England. Feel free to e-mail me if you require any information that I may be able to assist with.

    Regards.

    Rich.

Good luck to Tino. I hope he enjoys the trial but I don't think he is ready for that level yet. Just my opinion.

    Rich,

"The Soccer Show" based out of Washington D.C. and on the internet on Mondays at 6 pm Eastern Time just had Dave Kasper, who is the technical director of the club, on the show and he most emphatically denied the Manchester United rumours..

Kasper did mention however that Santino Quaranta is scheduled to go to Sunderland for training in December after U-20 World Cup Qualifying...

Please feel free to pass this information along..

Go to WUST1120.com and go to the archive section of "The Soccer Show" to listen to last nights program.. It will be available for listening at approximately 5 pm GMT

After reading through two whole threads, I am more confused than ever.

Well if Santino goes I wish him the best of luck.

    Santino's got game!

    I hope he makes it.

ps-Now the picture for DC United looks bleak. DC United lacked an offense for most of the season and will be losing one of the few offensive weapons they had. Ray better start moving some mountains or else...

no way we get that good a player for 24-60K who can score.

as much as i like tino, i am not sure he'll ever get into a regular role at man u. hope he proves me wrong.

Santino going to Man U or elsewhere is just like so many other MLS players who have gone overseas during recent offseasons for training (DCU has a very LONG offseason once again). I wouldn't read much into it. Other DCU players also will probably spend some time in Europe this offseason.

If a Euro club were interested in a transfer for Quaranta, I'm sure MLS would ask for an enormous amount of money (i.e. Olsen, Mathis, Beasley, etc.).

DK mentioned that they are trying to set up Convey, Namoff, Ali Curtis, and Mapp with training stints.

Thanks, Steven! I was hoping this was bulljive all day. I don't care if Sonny is good enough for Man United, I'd rather see him play here. Call me selfish.

I also get the weird feeling that RH and Sir Alex were sucking down some suds and RH said something to the effect, "I've got this wee laddie that needs to train with Al. Canna' send him yer way at year turn?"

I won't be surprised if Q1 ends up training with a couple of teams in England in December/January.

they couldn't possibly get that much for him in this market could they? (although Suderland did pay a kings ransom for crappy ass Flo) i mean he has lots of potential and has a had a couple of nice runs, but he hasn't played very much. i personally think he is somewhere behind casey, buddle, twellman, johnson in our young forward list, though he certainly has a ton of upside and might break out of that group.
