Santiago Giménez @ Feyenoord Rotterdam

  1. Roy Makaay about Santi:
''I praised him quite a bit before the winter break'', Makaay continues his story about Gimenez. "I was in Mexico for ambassadorial work for Bayern. I was there for ESPN Mexico and it was all about Gimenez. Then one of the questions was whether Feyenoord can keep him. After the winter break, it will be a lot easier, I think. The last few games he did (score again FSF), but before that he was completely lost.''
Makaay has also experienced a similar situation in his career. ''Once, at Bayern Munich. BILD started keeping track of it by the minute. It didn't matter to me what the press thought of it, it's all about what the teammates, coach and the board think. In the end, it was just over 1000 minutes that I hadn't scored. As long as the team wins, it's not a big deal. Occasionally, the criticism was a bit exaggerated. When the first goal came, I was rid of that too. Santiago is still young and hopefully it will stay that way.''

Well, Santi doesnot need to go to a Mexican beach to ride the waves. He now can do it in the center of Rotterdam.
In interviews he lately gave hints he might be staying in Rotterdam.

  3. article about the videographer of Giménez:

Lorenzo makes videos for Feyenoord striker Giménez: "I've really become part of the fam"

Because Lorenzo was allowed to portray the footballer's private life in detail, he has also built up a special bond with Giménez's family. In the meantime, he has "really become part of the fam" and they have even given him a nickname that is known to football fans as far away as Mexico. "Everyone calls me 'El Castor,'" Lorenzo says with a laugh. "That means 'The Beaver' in Spanish and refers to my last name."

  18. Feyenoord takes Johan Cruijff Shield on penalties and unprecedented spectacle against PSV

Eight goals, waves of attacks and a decision via penalties. PSV – Feyenoord had everything that makes football so attractive on Sunday. If the battle for the Johan Cruijff Shield won by the Rotterdammers is a harbinger for the new season, there will soon be a lot to experience in the Eredivisie.

PSV – Feyenoord is barely over when Santiago Giménez walks onto the field with a happy face. Just before that, during a downright amusing episode of the battle for the Johan Cruijff Shield (4-4 after regular time), he was the most decisive player on behalf of the Rotterdam club. And now, after a successful penalty shootout for his team, the striker, who was substituted after 70 minutes, is looking for his teammates again. For him and his team, the season has started brilliantly. There were editions of the Johan Cruijff Shield that hardly caused any excitement. How different it has been this Sunday evening in Eindhoven, the backdrop of a wonderful episode for the first prize of the season. Eight goals, waves of attacks and finally the luckiest team that played its way to victory via penalty kicks.
If this is a harbinger for the new season, then the spectators are going to experience a lot of beautiful things in the coming months. PSV – Feyenoord has offered ninety minutes, plus some bonus time during the penalty shootout, advertising for football. It's Gimémez, who played a leading role in the two Feyenoord goals this early Sunday evening, some time after Noa Lang had deservedly shot PSV into the lead. First, the striker shoots from eleven yards, shortly after midfielder Gjivai Zechiël has been knocked down by Frederik Oppegard of the national champion. After that, he is the instigator of the 1-2, scored by Bart Nieuwkoop.

It is the start of a match that will go in all directions after that. Luuk de Jong made it 2-2 early in the second half, following a miraculous last minute in the first half in which Nieuwkoop and Igor Paixao came very close to scoring a third Rotterdam goal. That third goal came moments later, when Giménez was knocked down by PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez. The Mexican made it 2-3 from the spot, where substitute Guus Til made it 3-3 against his former club, who had a new first goalkeeper in Timon Wellenreuther. And even after the next two goals, from Feyenoord substitute Antoni Milambo and PSV striker De Jong (4-4) respectively, the encounter remains in balance. The decision ultimately falls in the penalty shootout, which follows directly on the ninety minutes of playing time. Feyenoord take that one better. Thanks to Wellenreuther, who parries a shot by Johan Bakayoko and sees it go over by Til.
