    Scoreless at halftime.

  3. Still scoreless at 64 minutes. Sanneh listed as a left midfielder. Hmmm!

    Now 2-0, FCN.

Sanneh with the first goal, header.

    Petkovic with the second.

  5. Sanneh puts Nuernburg ahead at 65 minutes and Petrovich adds a second on a penalty two minutes later. Tony nods into the top corner on a counter.

  6. Effenberg in the book at 72 minutes.

  7. At 85 minutes Wolfburg appears resigned to defeat.

Sounds like Sanneh finally had a good game after struggling in the defense. Hope he can build on this performance.

Allen Hopkins mentioned it while watching another German match. Said that Tony was in the coaches doghouse and hopefully this got him out.

    Good job Tony.

I think Tony just needs to be back where people know his name and speak his language. If not the USA, then maybe the EPL.

He is too damn awesome and truly showed what he can do during the WC.

    ???
i am from germany and i defenitly know his name!!
i am 100% shure that in germany more people know sanneh than in england. and the language shouldn´t be the problem. he is playing 4 years in germany and if he isn´t able to understand german after 4 years he is the one to blame.

Congrats to Tony for his goal! Did anyone see the game -- can you shed any light on how he played other than the goal?

I am 100% sure that more people in Germany know his name than in the States, as well.

I saw the goal and it was a decent one. He took a high and long cross from Petrovic (?) who was 30 yards upfield and skied over a few defenders to nod it down far post and out of the keeper's reach. He almost set up a goal in the 44th minute for Cacau which the youngster muffed. Around the 85th minute he carried deep on a solo run with one defender to beat and laid it off nicely to Cacau who should have put it away again - alas he did not.

    MOTM - Darius Kampa
    2nd MOTM - Petkovic

BTW, I've heard Sanneh's German is just fine.

You are truly right Mainz05. If Tony doesn't speak any German, which he does as far as I know, it would be his fault. I lived in Kaiserslautern for over 3 years, but hardly speak German due to the fact that I was working on school all the time while stationed there, which helped me get the nice job I have now. It was more or less learn German or get my degree--my choice.

The problem is really one for those of us stateside who spreche keinen deutsch and who also want Tony back in the US. I am glad to hear a German guy, who doesn't live in Nuernburg, knows who Tony is.

The Bundesliga isn't exactly US friendly. Our players have to endure more scrutiny than the locals there. Also, for fans here in the US, it's not like the Bundesliga.de web site posts in English. Why not? The league has to be well aware of the interest from fans in other countries and with English being the common language, why not post in English as well. I know it certainly would have helped me when I was following 1FCK in Kaiserlautern. Funny how a new league, like MLS, can post in English and Spanish without a problem and it hasn't been around anywhere near as long as the Bundesliga. But then again, MLS caters to its fans---all fans!

Tony is truly my favorite player and I want to be able to see this guy in action. If he is in the EPL, which he would have no problem starting in by the way--anyone who says otherwise has no clue---then at least I could see some of his games on satellite or FSW.

Wait, I have an idea for a sit com. And ex-athelet moves to a city where everybody knows his name and opens a bar... Let's set it in Munich and have the ex-athelete be Tony Sanneh. Can someone write me a theme song.

I know it's been said before, but I gotta reiterate, an American "full international" playing football for Herta and now Nurnberg who owns(ed?) a bar in Berlin is waaaaay better known in Germany than the US.

He speaks and understands German fairly decent, but he gives interviews in English. Cherundolo's and Casey's German is MUCH better though.

I agree that there should be an English version and I was contacting the responsible persons, but they said that the English content wasn't visited often enough (until July there was an English version).

    On Tony today:
The goal surely was one of the most awkward headers I've ever seen, I don't even think he hit the ball with his forehead. In the offence it was okay, but in the first half he once again had a bad pass in the forward movement which was interfered and much luck was needed that Klimowicz didn't score in this scene.

Surely a lucky victory for Nürnberg - they couldn't have complained about a 0-3 or 0-4 in the first half. My favourite scene of the game was Petkovic - on loan from Wolfsburg to Nürnberg as coach Wolf didn't give him a chance last season - who scored the 2-0, undressed his jersey and ran with it to the Wolfsburg bench by pointing on his name :)

Talk about getting over on your old team! Sweet Revenge!

Thanks for the info on the bundesliga.de web site. Maybe, for the English section, they should just have stories on Tony there in English :)

Sanneh rated 3.5 and listed as one of three central defenders in front of a sweeper

Tony has been there since 1999 and he still can't give an interview in German?! Very poor on his part.

I agree. However, has anyone seen El Pibe giving an interview in English?

You ever studied German? It's grammatical structure is similar to English only in that it's totally different. Also, having a general conversation in another language and discussing in-depth tactics and whatever are totally different things.

Besides, everyone in Germany speaks English anyway -- look at olafgb... :)
