Kicker today mentioned that Nürnberg has given up any hope to get rid off Sanneh, but other sources tell it differently. "Nürnberg Nachrichten" quotes "Sunday Mercury" reporting that Sanneh and WBA are close to an agreement. On WBA's homepage there is an article saying that the Coach is hopeful to sign Sanneh.

Gary Megson mentioned that WBA is trying to bring in Tony Sanneh (among several other players) in an interview on SkySportsNews today. Who knows, maybe the deal is not completely off?

Nürnberg's homepage mentions that the whole matter will be decided soon. Today GM Geenen said "I set a deadline for Tony and his agent. Until Saturday he's got to decide whether he leaves or not. After all, we want to have a clear situation now."

If Tony is smart he will take this deal in a second. Sure the WBA might get relegated. But if he puts on a really good show their, he might get picked up by someone else. He might help them stave off relegation. Who knows? I do know that Nurenberg isn't going to be very happy with him if he doesn't transfer. As the coach's, I will retaliate comments indicate. Go to the EPL Tony. Go.

fair enough, but what happens if he does do fairly well and then no one makes any offers for him outside of loans come the next transfer window in june/july...he will wind up back in the same position at nurnburg.

Sanneh's back in Nürnberg without declaring a transfer to WBA. GM Geenen and Coach Augenthaler will have a last try to convince him to go to WBA on Wednesday.

    New kicker article:

It reminds of an old bubble gum, the transfer story about Nürnberg's Anthony Sanneh: it is tormentingly slow and got a bad taste. Towards the end of the past week the transfer of the 31 year old to English Premier League Team West Bromwich Albion seemed to be failed. The right footed player, who was treated in Los Angeles because of his back problems, confessed that he doesn't want to go to the island because of lacking perspective.

Gary Megson, Coach of West Bromwich, stresses that he counts on Sanneh - just details have to be cleared. Short: it is not about perspectives, but about money. Today the US national player returns to FCN. "We immediately get together, the topic has to be off the table", explains GM Edgar Geenen, who's also speaking for the Coach with that. "We need to concentrate now. That's why a decision has to be made"

  9. Olaf- What does "lacking perspective" mean? That he doesn't know what's good for him? Or something else?

    Perspective

I think it means that the future of WBA looks like relegation and Sanneh does not want to ply his trade for a team that most likely will go down to DIV 1, where as the Germans/Nurenburg don't care because its all about the money that they will recieve and what Tony will recieve

    Re: Perspective

That explanation is inadequate, because it's a LOAN, not a transfer.

Tony might be thinking, if I go to WBA and they stay up, great, they'll buy me. But if they go down, I'll get sent back to FCN, and someone else will have been playing my position for 4 months.

    Re: Re: Perspective

    First to jordsosa:
With lacking perspective (which was told by Tony to German media) he wanted to point out that Nürnberg is the stronger team compared with WBA. Now kicker concludes from the words of WBA's Coach that it's a matter about money and has nothing to do with the perspectives. Personally I don't know what's true, but it's really a very difficult decision.

    Now to you:
Tony will lose his starting position in Nürnberg anyway. They played a great pre-season without him and the formation stays. Without losing streak or injuries he won't have a chance to return to the lineup.

C'mon Olaf... this is what I'd say: "since you suck so much and are relegation-fodder, how about paying me some more money because you're going to lose all the time?" Not really that bluntly, but that's the gist of the matter, isn't it? Less "sporting perspective" = more $$$. Period.

And I do think he's been treated unfairly at FCN, so we'll see how he does when (not if) he transfer, whether to WBA or elsewhere, whether this transfer window or next. And he's still going to get playing time if he stays, regardless, because he's good enough and expensive.

    The truth hurts.

I hate to say it, because he was the man at the WC, but Tony looks like he is just out to get paid, and doesn't care if he sits the bench in Germany.

I was hoping having McBride over their might sway his decision somewhat...they seem to be somewhat friends. Anway, it doesn't look like the Baggies are going to stay up anyway, maybe he just doesn't want to uproot his life, and would rather fight for his job in Nurnberg.

Sure you can do it like that. Problem for him is that he probably won't find a club in summer if he doesn't play regularly in Bundesliga. He still has a further year contract at Nürnberg, so worst case is 1 1/2 years without playing time - which team will then be interested in a 33 year old with this few playing time? I see that this is what you consider to be speaking for Sanneh getting playing time, but I don't see that at the moment; from the sportive perspective he's out for the moment - as I said: injuries or losing games are needed for him to return to the team (you can bet on that).

Unfair treatment? I wouldn't say that. It's sports business, no nice business for sure. It's certainly difficult to identify with a club that is trying to sell you all the time, but OTOH they wouldn't want to sell him if he had shown good performances constantly.
